We just spent five fabulous nights at Los Castanos. The Hotel is located in the picturesque village of Cartajima which is the perfect location to explore the local stunning scenery. The owners, Di & John, take a real pride in their establishment and have managed to create a real home from home with all the creature comforts you would expect. They have clearly thought through what they are trying to achieve and the result is the perfect place to stay for their guests with a genuine interest being taken in individual needs and requirements. The evening meals are superb and great value made with high quality locally sourced ingredients washed down with some locally produced organic wine - fantastic, but not for my waistline!

If you want to experience the best the Ronda Valley can offer then you should stay at this Hotel you will not regret it.

On a two week tour of Andalusia we planned a two night stop at Los Castanos. It was the perfect antidote to the tourist traps of Cordoba, Granada, Ronda and Seville. This was where we felt truly in touch with the soul of Spain. The little white hill town of Cartajima seems untouched by the passage of time and the hotel fit in seamlessly with its surroundings. The hospitality of the hosts, Di and John, was outstanding yet unobtrusive. Our room was large, comfortable and exquisitely decorated; the food was divine and locally-sourced; information on walks in the region was provided on a friendly basis and we were left to enjoy the restorative aspect of this charming small hotel. We were only sorry that we hadn't booked longer. We will recommend a stay at Los Castanos to all our friends who may be travelling in this part of the world.

Room Tip: Only six rooms in the hotel. We didn't see any others.

We wanted to go and see Juzcar, the small village that was completely painted blue for the Smurf movie and looked on the internet for a small hotel in one of the neighbouring villages. After reading the wonderful reviews we decided to stay the night at Los Castanos which turned out to be a great choice. The room was very comfortable and quiet but what was even better was the dinner: very gourmet, freshly home-cooked and served in the comfortable and cosy dining/living room. The breakfast next morning was equally enjoyable. We will certainly recommend this hotel and will urge friends to certainly have dinner there.

We planned our five night stay at Los Castanos as a break during our four week holiday in Portugal and Spain. Cartajima is a little “white village”, nestled in the mountains about 20 minutes’ drive from Ronda, with superb views of other villages across the valleys. Di and John are generous and friendly hosts who share their extensive knowledge of the area to help you plan your stay – drives, walks, local information, or just relaxing on the terrace. The hotel is beautifully designed with white and terra cotta décor, comfortable sitting areas, and roomy bedrooms. Our room had a view across the valley and overlooked the (sometimes noisy) village square. Everything is as shown in the photos on the website – and more! The attention to little details delights – make-up remover and olive oil moisturizer in the bathroom; two suitcase stands in the bedroom; good books and games to entertain. Di is a gourmet cook, providing a varied menu using fresh local produce, and a selection of local wines is available. We highly recommend Los Castanos.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view.

I spent 6 wonderful days at this charming hotlel in late September of this year. Di and John could not have been more accomodating. Everything about their Inn was superb. The rooms are spacious and well desinged. They have carefully thought through what a traveler wants/needs in a hotel and have provided each room with everything needed. My room (#8) had a clock radio, refrigerator with ice, comfortable chair, plenty of light both natural and through lamps and reading lights and a large balconey with two chairs and a table with gorgeous views. My bathroom had a wonderful glass block shower, jacuzzi bathtub, large sink and window with views of the mountains and square. I also had a drawing tablet, charcoals and paints as well as several English language books on the Rronda Valley and Spain in genreal. The common areaes are wonderful for the hors d'oeuvres and wine before dinner. Di is an amazing cook and each meal was delicious and beautifully presented. John knows the valleys and numerous walks and was a fountain of information on all things outdoors. Our packed lunches for when we were walking with no possible restaurant stops were hearty and delicious. Can not say enough good about this place, the Hotel and its owners. Ann S. Atlanta, GA

Room Tip: As far as I could tell there is no such thing as a "bad or inferior " room here. I am par...

When Di opened the door to our room at Los Castanos, it was pure delight. The room was large, neat and uncluttered, with room for weary travelers to rest. The entire hotel is well appointed with vibrant colors, excellent linens, interesting pictures and objects, and a plethora of books to read or browse. But the view from the patios won the day. Sun on a charming white Spanish village and waiting mountains with views that never end. It was a pleasure to come back after a good long hike to the comfort of Los Castanos. Di and John are great hosts with stories to share, incredible food and wine. They know and obviously love the area and graciously share it with guests. Di offered us a terrific cooking class of local recipes using foods that we could easily replicate at home. Los Castanos is well worth finding!

Room Tip: Each room has a unique quality. All are spacious, comfortable and clean with plenty of fresh air and...

We were there with 2 American friends at the end of an Andulician fortnight. This was without doubt one of the most restful places we've ever stayed in . Wonderful hospitality from Di and John as soon as you arrive. Always available for advice and information(they have walking routes for the whole area, and for all levels). Their house is welcoming and comfortable with lovely rooms. The roof patio is stunning with views across the mountains and the valleys. We all spent many an hour there. The scenery here is quite stunning and we took a good hike up to Los Ricos (from John's directions) followed by a good ,inexpensive lunch at Jezecar, then home to Di's patio. A perfect day. The village and the 3 bars are all very friendly . A tremendous place for a holiday or a short break. We will return with other friends.

Room Tip: They're all good
