We had a fabulous time staying at Los Castanos. -we are back home and looking at pictures and definitely hope to go back some day - and will recommend to our friends . Beautiful detailing in the common rooms and bedrooms. Food exceptional. Di and John were very helpful in identifying places to visit and make our trip a memorable one

Briefly - go here. The service was impeccable (they had sandwiches for us when we arrived after Midnight from Morocco), friendly, attentive, generous with their time. The hotel and it's location could not be more inviting and the village life is a piece of Spain that all travelers should enjoy. Di and John made us feel at home including with the home cooking. Great meals. The large room with king bed and small balcony overlooking the village church was a castle in itself. The walks, the trip to Ronda, the mountain views.....all worth the bit of a hike. Would go again and again.

A welcoming and very comfortable place to stay as a base for exploring the hills of this part of Andalucia. Di and John made this an exceptional week - nothing too much trouble from providing maps to giving advice about places to visit to preparing sandwiches. The meal each evening was excellent - too good to tempt us to eat elsewhere. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and we enjoyed getting to know both our hosts and other guests. The walking is varied - village to village through chestnut groves, amazing rock formations just above the village itself, stunning views from the nearby national park.... Wildlflowers in May were numerous and beautiful and there was plenty of interesting birdlife. Highly recommended.

Neither of us had been to the Ronda area before but friends we know had raved about the friendly locals, the wild, beautiful countryside and the exquisite food. So when we realised that Los Castanos Hotel was sited perfectly in the middle of Cartajima, one of the most exquisite white mountain villages you could ever wish to see, we decided to visit. After a week at the hotel, our high expectations were more than met. The hotel was delightful, the room sensational (with breathtaking views across the valley) and Di's food so good that we preferred most evenings to eat at the hotel, despite the excellence of several local restaurants. Di and John were perfect hosts, taking infinite care to meet the differing needs of all the residents. We would unreservedly recommend Los Castanos as a wonderful base for any person wishing to explore the area.

We have just returned from a weeks hiking and sightseeing trip. Staying in just one place was new to us as we tend to do linear walks. We couldn't have made a better choice. We could walk from the hotel and return to a warm welcome and superb food. The atmosphere was brilliant as we all sat round the coffee table after dinner for a chat in which the hosts often joined us. Thanks for a lovely week.

Very comfortable room with great view of the mountains. Nice little village. Did I mention the great hosts--both of whom really want to make sure you're having a wonderful stay at their hotel--Di makes the worlds greatest dinners--John will help you in any way he can. Finally, if you enjoy hiking from village to village and back again this is a the place or you can simply drive around the countryside and see a very unique slice of Spain.

Room Tip: Upstairs with a view of the mountains

When we picked the hotel off the net we were looking for somewhere relaxing to walk and eat nice food. I can't imagine how we could have done much better. This is probably one of the nicest smart bandb's (or relaxed small hotel depending on how you look at it) we have ever stayed in anywhere. It is stylish and spacious but also homely. Di's food is delicious and John's walks advice helped us not to put on too much weight. We also enjoyed the company of our hosts and other guests we chatted to. We would definitely return!
