Thanks, Amy. "Get away from it all" just about sums it up! The views are spectacular from the terrace particularly at this season. So glad you enjoyed us.
Los Castanos is probably the best small hotel that we have ever stayed at in Europe. The location is fantastic: in a scenic, idyllic small village in the countryside within easy reach of Ronda. There are hiking paths leading in every direction from the village of Cartajima and hiking to one or more of the other nearby pueblos blancos is a great way to spend a day without touching the car.
The hotel itself is recent construction with clean, up to date rooms, but it fits in perfectly with the surrounding village. The rooftop terrace is as wonderful as advertised.
We had dinner on property for each night of our 3 night stay. The food is excellent and accompanied by a nice selection of local, Andalusian wines.
The owner, Di Beach, has a fascinating life story and she and her co-host John go out of their way to make every guest feel welcome and well taken care of.
What a delightful review! Thank you so much and it is always thrilling when our guests details all the aspects we concentrate on to make for the perfect stay.
If you want to get out of busy Ronda and enjoy staying in one of the white villages, the ideal place to stay. Very nice hosts - even waiting for you at the entrance of the village in order to support you getting a parking place.
Excellent cooking, lovely and large rooms and a rooftop terrace with an amazing view. Lovely furniture, pictures and decorations in the house.
Great to get in touch with other travellers.
One of the best places we stayed on our round trip through Andalusia.
Ronda is a very busy place these days but still very worth visiting. But best to stay outside somewhere like Cartajima.! Thank you for your visit and we look forward to seeing you again.
What great good fortune that I discovered Los Costaños on the Internet. I’d been looking for a multiday roost, away from the busloads of tourists but steps from walking trails in lovely countryside. Los Costaños is in the center of a cute village in the Alto Genal, an area known for its cultivation of chestnuts. (Guess what “costaño” means?) But if you don’t fancy walking among limestone crags or chestnut trees (like I do), you’re just a short drive from Ronda.
The village of Cartajima is so cute that it doesn’t have much of a shop or a restaurant. Which is just fine, because no one could give you a better meal than Di Beach. I’m vegan, particularly challenging in Spain, but Di fed me three amazing dinners. She even made fresh almond milk for my breakfast cereal.
As for the accommodations, my room had everything I needed: olive oil shampoo and shower gel, French press coffee fixings, comfy chairs, reading lights, shelves for spreading stuff out, lovely bedding, and a balcony with view. Common areas—the dining area, the “snug,” and the roof terrace—were outfitted in Di’s exceptional style.
But it’s not all about Di. John, the other half of the Los Costaños team, is your host, your sommelier, your man on the spot. I loved my conversations with them both and was sorry to leave them.
Jane, thank you so much for this long and detailed review. It was lovely having your to stay and cooking for you was fun. Best wishes from us both.
What can I say? The fact that we return so often says it all.
The village is quiet, pretty and nestled into the hills with plenty of walks at all levels.
Wonderful well equipped rooms with beautiful views..the views in every direction are magnificent.
Di and John are great hosts full of information about the local area and they create a very special ambience that makes you feel totally comfortable and relaxed.
Best of all is Di’s truly special cooking ..I’m a vegetarian and she always inspires me and sends me away with a recipe or two.
Thank you Di and John we shall return.
Always such a pleasure to have you stay. And I adore cooking for you! It challenges me to come up with new exciting vegey dishes. John and I look forward to your return. xxxx
A very nicely designed new build. Nice interiors with light everywhere and a superb roof terrace. Our room had every extra you could want. Dinner was excellent and it was a delight to share the company of other guests. Very welcoming owners. Great location in the very centre of the village.
Love your appreciation of the building which I designed and built, completing in 2004. The use of light was important to me and the architect with whom I worked. The interesting thing is that everybody, every single guest, thinks the building is ancient - which I love. I didn´t want it to look like a "new build"! Best wishes from Cartajima.
