“great stay”
Reviewed 7 September 2013

Our family stayed in the upstairs chalet on the beachfront and loved the balcony, sunsets, beautiful design which maximised air-flow, and lovely staff - Pat and Salome. Chalotteville is a terrific fishing village but takes a while for new visitors to get used to eg which places are open and when they do food. we stayed a week, made many friends once we got to know people, had great trips with boat owner Mark (Expect D Unexpected), loved the food at the various places on the beachfront road (try the rotis), with great snorkelling too - you can make your way from just outside the chalet right around the cove to the stunning Pirate's Bay.

If you love the sea in all its different moods, and a quiet holiday to get-away-from-it-all, this is the place for you.
The accommodation is nice but an investment in air-conditioning would enhance the stay.
The large glass windows stretching all the way across the gallery are beyond compare and allow a beautiful sea-view and mountains even from the kitchen.
Pirate's Bay is the best, (my daughter describes it as paradise) but i'ts mood also varies according to the moon and tide. The fifteen minute hike to reach, though up-hill, is wonderful and exciting.
The fishermen can also be paid a reasonable sum to have access to this beach if you are not fit for hiking material.

Room Tip: If you favour a single bedroom each, a family of three is ideal.

We really enjoyed our four-night stay here with our two-year-old daughter. We stayed in a small apartment with a patio right on the tiny road across from the water. The "beach" right there is pebbly and small, but we took a nice evening dip there; other times, we went in either direction to great spots for swimming, seashells and lounging. We never really saw much of the manager, but the woman who tidied up was very kind. We liked walking all around time, and it was nice to be able to easily buy groceries and self-cater in the chalet's kitchen. Simple inside the rooms, but very comfortable, clean, and enjoyable.

Cholson Chalets is a charming gem in a charming little fishing village in Tobago. Located directly on the beach in Man ´O War Bay you can hardly claim to find a better location for your holiday.

We had a full week, and the friendliness and hospitality of staff was what first struch us. The room was great (we god one on first floor with a balcony overlooking the beach and felt very lucky), furnished with old furniture and you can see the whole place is being properly maintained.

Lying just off Charlotteville "centre" means you do get to hear some of the sounds of the town, including of there is some entertainment going on at the square nearby. It also means you have under a minute´s walk to get to everything and that is really nice. The town closes down early anyway so no loss of sleep in this place.

Check out Pirate´s Bay that is a 10 minutes walk and gives you one of the most picture-perfect beach I have ever been to.

Definitely a recommendation.

Room Tip: Not all the rooms have a sea view. Make sure to check that. There are different sizes of rooms - fro...

My wife and I recently spent two weeks in Tobago with our 1 year old son. We stayed for a week at Cholson Chalets in the cottage. Our stay was great and we would highly recommend Cholson Chalets. The location on the beach can't be beat and is close to all the restaurants in Charlotteville. As far as we could tell, Cholson was the best-located place to stay in town. The sound of the waves at night is very relaxing. The cottage in particular is perfect for families as there are two bedrooms (including a crib) as well as a main living room and kitchen.

The service was also excellent. Pat Nicholson in particularly was extremely helpful, including when our flight was delayed and we arrived very late at night. The onsite manager and cleaning staff were also very good and helpful.

If you are going to Charlotteville for an off-the-beaten-track experience, I would recommend staying at Cholson Chalets!

Charlotteville is a charming location and definitely worth visiting. We elected to stay at this particular property because we read that it has a nice view of the sea. However, we ended up being accomadated at cottage in which most of the rooms do not have a view of the sea or have windows facing the sea. The front porch has a view of the sea. If you stay here, I would recommend staying in the upstairs rooms which have a substantially better seaview.
We were especially disappointed because the staff had said that it had a good seaview when we had booked it. It was unfortunately not what was advertised and the staff was not very helpful about accommodating a change of rooms or plans.

The rooms are clean and comfortable. The cottage is definitely worth it if you are traveling with a family (which we were not).

Room Tip: Upstairs 2 rooms have the best seaview. Cottage has a marginal to next-to-nothing seaview - however...

My best friend, son and I stayed for two fabulous restful weeks at Cholson Chalets. It was delightful. We arrived at 10:00p.m at the airport and were able to contact the manager by phone to give the airport taxi the directions. Courteous, friendly and helpful all the way describes our experience from then on. We were lulled to sleep by the waves breaking gently on the beach across the street. Next morning and every morning after that we awoke opened the door and were greeted with the most spectacular scene. This is what beachfront is all about... My three year old son and I would begin each morning by crossing the street and jumping unto the sand to feed the birds the remains of breakfast and then a swim in the bay.

My best friend would open the front door and sit looking at us, while taking in the locals slow and easy gait. It relaxed us to see people so relaxed and unhurried going about daily life in a fishing village. We highly recommend the "Tobago Eskimo"- a flavoured ice cool costing TT$1.00 at the grocery two doors down. At midday you'll love it after a cooling swim...

Fresh fish comes literally to your door as the jetty is on the right of the property and fishing boats can be seen coming home. Fresh vegetables and fruit are sold next to the grocery by Keino at his stall. The visitor's/ tourist information centre is chucked full of information on tours ; birdwatching, scuba diving, turtle watching etc. Public transport is available at the bus stop a two minute walk away every two hours. Taxi service available upon request from the office or outside the visitor's/tourist information centre.

The level of service was very good, the ladies provided clean sheets, they washed dishes, swept floors, made beds and cleaned bathrooms. There is also an inexpensive laundry service onsite. When you leave a mess you return to a pristine place. The ladies do not remain all day, but in their hours onsite they do good work...and then some. If you venture into the back yard; mangoes, bananas, guavas and seasonings are yours for the taking. We had several ripe fruits during our stay. Go to the fish depot or wait for the fishermen to arrive on the beach so you can buy out of the boat...either way you'll be happy with the freshness of the catch and the size of your portions. The depot provides cleaning and cutting with purchase.

There is cable t.v. and free fruit on the beach front trees higher up the street. There are several local characters; Fussy was our favourite. We encountered several nationalities while at Cholson Chalets; French, English, Scottish, American and Germans in the first week.

Charlotteville is a real gem of a village where people look out for each other. Where shrimp and fries with a beer can be had around the corner from the gas station. Where the businesses are run by the owners, therefore pride in service and product is always present.
Do go there it is not as bustling and busy as Scarborough but that's what makes it special and unique.

Room Tip: Ground floor is street level, lots of passers by. For privacy choose the top floor rooms.
