“Well-equipped and comfortable with friendly hosts”
Reviewed 1 August 2017 for a stay in July 2017

This is a great place to stay if you want to explore the Western Lakes and Cumbrian coast; we were spoiled for things to do! The cottage was very well equipped and comfortable with an especially nice shower room...plenty of places to sit outside as well. Peaceful and scenic spot....nice walks up the river Ehen all the way up to Ennerdale which is wonderfully remote and atmospheric in feel. St Bees great for coastal walks and would recommend the walk to St Bees Head RSPB viewpoints and the wonderful beach there with amazingly shaped sandstones. Other highlights include the walk from Ravenglass to Muncaster Castle via the Roman fort, and the wonders of Borrowdale above Derwent Water....All in all, we couldn't have had a nicer time and hope to return one day. Many thanks to our lovely hosts, Sarah and Sean, for their hospitality and lovely welcome basket!

First impressions are important, it's set the scene for the rest of the stay. Impressed from Arrival nice welcome pack, even down to treats for our dog. Excellent decor, spacious gardens, everything provided. Must be one of the best cottages we have stayed in recently. Can highly recommend to anyone who wants the choice of seaside or lake district, ideally situated to reach either easily. Weather not to bad either for late September.

“Fabulous cottage ”
Reviewed 15 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Had a lovely week at Briscoe Mill. Lovely cottage excellent location for West Lakes. lovely welcome pack which was really appreciated. Garden was great and sunny sheep in field adjacent to the garden. Owners next door were lovely bought treats for the dog and made us feel really really welcome but also left us to enjoy the cottage. Would recommend the cottage which was clean cosy and had everything you need.

“Very Nice Location”

The welcome pack was very nice to receive on arrival

The location of the cottage is very nice indeed,

We booked this cottage as it said there was room for 2 well behaved dogs. I checked the website to see what restrictions there are for dogs and there is absolutely no mention of the incredibly long list of restrictions and conditions set by the owners which can only be discovered once you arrive!!

I found it hard to relax knowing that the owners were next door and were they about to check on us at any moment! My old dog is a delight to be on holiday with but even he was uptight!

The cottage stairs are incredibly steep and I would never ever book a cottage again where the toilet was downstairs - it really worried me that I would fall in the night.

How easy was it to book the property? How helpful were the directions to the property?
How easy was key pickup/access to the property? Overall condition of the property

Bathroom cleanliness Other facilities & amenities

Many thanks for the review Sue and also your letter. It's good to get feedback from experienced hosts such as yourselves and we've now replaced the cafetiere and bought a new spatula, thanks for pointing those out. The other items you were missing are located in other cupboards i.e. dust pan and brush under kitchen sink and also floor mop & bucket stored the blue shed - we will make sure future guests know their whereabouts. We're very sorry everyone felt uptight about the dog rules we didn't mean to offend, especially to your dog - I have now removed our list of expectations and will consider a new approach, see how it goes. We do hope if you visit your friends again, you would all consider coming back. Best regards Sarah

“Lovely cottage - ideal location for Western Lakes”
Reviewed 27 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Lovely well appointed cottage. Good location for visiting the less touristy Western Lakes. Thank you for the welcome pack, much appreciated after a long drive. Enjoyed feeding the cows and cooking apple and blackberry pie - produce from the garden :) Note to dog owners, the garden isn't enclosed.
