The Wangsa Private Estate
Reviewed 4 December 2013

There is much to be said about a hotel which relies on gimmicky rates to lure unsuspecting tourists.

Although my friends n I spent less than 48 hours in the hotel, whatever that could have gone wrong went wrong.

Firstly the ceiling plaster in one of the bathrooms caved in. And it couldn't b fixed till the following day, just because... I never knew why. We weren't given an explanation. All of us had to take turns showering in the other bathroom.

However, having our water supplies cut off in the middle of the night really topped the cake. We couldn't shower (some of us were in a middle of one)we couldn't flush the toilet...think of childhood days at a school camp, only ten times worse. At 1am we were asked to pack up and move to another room, only to be told later that there was NO WATER IN THE ENTIRE ESTATE!!!!! We asked to be put up at the conrad for the night but the manager was fast asleep n the staff were like lost sheep.

Somehow we made through the night. We didn't get a refund for all the inconvenience and even had to request a waiver of the breakfast charges. No initiative.

I neglected to mention that the breakfast was deplorable, we were better off eating tidbits. And rotting fruit was left on our dining table everyday. If I were the hotel staff, I wouldn't even bother. Towels were dirty and covered in brown spots. Lap pool was murky and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in while. What were all the staff doing ?there was no one else on the estate (but us)

In summary a nightmare of a hotel. We would much rather have paid a little more and stayed somewhere much better

We were enticed by the cheap price of Wangsa located just opposite Conrad Bali. The online reviews were also not too bad, according to our research done. However, we were in for the greatest shock of our lives. The resort was spacious and there were 2 rooms , 1 living rm and a jacuzzi. We were impressed at first glance.
However, closer inspection revealed dirty walls, lizard droppings were everywhere, towels they gave us were spotted. We arrived at around 10pm the first night and the rainshower was trickling...it was more of a drizzle. We could hardly bathe.

The second night, there was no water for us to use. We could not flush the toilet, could not bathe and were greatly inconvenienced.
The manager was no where to be found and the hapless staff could do nothing. We were left stranded without water.

Although we could bathe the next morning after enduriing a night without water, the resort quickly ran out of water by 10am... The cook even admitted that she used mineral water to cook.
Truly a terrible experience and please do not patronise this villa and be tempted by the relatively cheaper price. We would have rather paid more to ensure a comfortable stay.

The hotel is located opposite the front entrance of Conrad Hotel. We had 2 rooms at the Condotel - one at level 1 and the other at level 2. Frontline staff and housekeepers are friendly and humble. You order your breakfast daily at the reception by ticking your breakfast choice - Balinese, American or Continental. For e.g. fried noodle or fried rice, scramble eggs, push eggs or fried eggs, toast bread, orange/mango juice and etc. The breakfast will be sent to your room at your preferred timing. The rooms are generally okay - spacious, clean, quiet, comfortable bed & pillows. Umbrellas and mini hifi set provided. Minor issues for the rooms - Level 2 room faced low water pressure for basin and bath tub + incomplete towel set on 1st night. Power supply slot card went missing on 2nd night. The issues got resolved only on 3rd night. Level 1 room has some coloured drippings behind the mirror, not sure what was it till today. No staff seems to bother about reporting it for rectification.

You can look for food at nearby restaurants - walk about 1 km to the north (more choices) or south (less choices). Prepare to pay a bit more for food in Benoa area. Some restaurants do free pickup and send back. I would recommend having lunch or dinner at Bali Collection Centre instead, which is less than 5 minutes by taxi / shuttle bus. The price at BCC is cheaper.

You can get the reception to call a taxi to Bali Collection Centre (for lunch and dinner - about Rp 50,000). You can also stop a taxi (lots of them on the road) along the road side to the same place for Rp 17,000. There is shuttle bus service between Bali Collection Centre to nearby hotels (at Benoa area too) at hourly intervals. The restaurants inside Bali Collection Centre do send patrons home using their own transport after dinner for FREE.

For the beach, walk to the main road, turn right (heading south), once pass the boundary of Conrad Hotel, there is a small walkway which will lead you to the beach.

This hotel is good for those who like the sun, beach and sea. Otherwise, need to book transport to go other sites - a bit inconvenient. We booked a transport for 3 days to bring us around but need to get back before dinner - managed to sort out our dinner schedule at nearby restaurants.

Room Tip: Choose higher floors - the main door of lower floors face the aircon chillers that generate heat. T...

Wangsa is in a quiet location, has big rooms, good sized bathrooms, comfortable beds. BUT: no public areas, no bar, no lobby, no food delivery service, no pool. The once upon a time white towels are grey and a bit tired, the bathtub looks great but the trickle of water coming out of the tap will probably never fill it. Breakfast is delivered to your room. If something is missing - sugar, creamer - too bad. No chance to have more juice, fruit etc. The Benoa peninsula is not made for walking. The narrow street has no pavement at times, but big traffic. Given that there is a minimum of staff needed and nothing to be maintained - too expensive I would say.

The Best accomodation stay that we have had on Bali.Everything about it pleases the eye including the TV over the deep bath.If you had to stay in for whatever reason this would be the place.Lots of private space, even a balcony with grass on it! Staff were warm friendly and efficient.Breakfast served in the room ( they have no restaraunt) was of a high standard.Theres no public pool but they made a villa pool available on the days we wanted to relax and swim. The shops and restaraunts are close by and taxis are inexpensive.Benoa isnt the best place if you like a sroll to the shops etc.Theres not enough safe footpaths along the main road and it is unsafe in lots of places. We used the boardwalk along the beachfront whenever we could and taxied other times espeially in the evenings. All in all a great hotel but Benoa is uninteresting.

Room Tip: All rooms good.

I decided to stay this hotel as it seems to modern establishment, and yes it is new condohotel with necessary room amenity (bath amenity/ cutlery / bath robe etc...)

Room is spacious enough for me with cozy sofa area for dining and separate working desk near closet.

Although there is no Restaurant but only in room dining, the quality of food in this level are adequate and fact I love they serving breakfast in room dining.

I strongly recommend this place for family / couple

We stayed at one of their private villa "Soka - 107" (2BR, upstairs & downstairs). It was very nice, even though we landed late and only arrived right about midnight; check-in was painless and we were guided to the property in a swift.

While it has 2BR, both bedrooms has no door so no privacy at all if you're looking at sharing with kids older than 9 years old. The bathroom is outdoor, open and covered in flimsy draped over looking the pool. Definitely more for honeymooners ;)

Breakfast was ok but nothing to rave about and room service ends at 5pm and the food is actually quite good. Walking distance to Circle K for basics and 3 mins walk to a good spa down left side.

Only downside during the trip was the construction beside the villa that goes on every day, even on Sunday...
