My boyfriend and I stayed at the Aston on a reccomendation from friends. I was expecting a great resort but I was blown away by how amazing this one is! Upon arrival we were upgraded to an ocean suite which had incredible views of the resort and ocean. The staff are friendly and no request was ever to big. The pool and beach were perfection. The restaurants all served delicious food. Great day spa. Location was good with lots of restaurants and spas to choose from. We will definitely stay here again! We have fallen in love with the Aston and can't wait to return next year.

As a family of four we stayed there for 8 nights. 1st impressions were very good but the longer we stayed the more we realized the Resort is not as good as it's making itself out to be.
The good: rooms are spacious, even for a family to move around and not feel cramped. Enough space to store language. Resort layout is good and has a relaxed atmosphere. It needs to be noted we traveled during off peak.
The bad: rooms are only artificially cleaned, not all rubbish is removed, floor is not always swept. Bath room condiments are not always refilled, we had to call for additional towels, shower gel and shampoo on a few occasions. Cupboards are old and drawers and doors jam up. You can actually hurt yourself trying to open them. I tore a few finger nails on the way. With a few exception staff is not as friendly as one expects from a self proclaimed 4 star resort. We just moved to the Hard Rock in Kuta and it's a world of difference. At Aston some staff actually look the other way so they don't have to great you. Kids club is small and clearly Aston has little or no experience in running one. Our kids left the club a couple of times without anyone stopping them leaving them running around at the resort. At one occasion two other kids threw up in the kids club and they told all the kids to leave and not come back! Other than that we found little worthwhile activity in the kids club compared to other clubs our kids have been at (Fiji, Club Meds)
The outright ugly: the pool was filthy during most of our stay except for the 1st two days. A kind of foam started to build up on some of the edges. I asked about this and was told it was because of the rain and it would be better the next day, it wasn't. Strangely enough the resort next door had a clean pool. The pool also has small algae growth, my bathers got stained from it but it came off during a good wash. Eating at the Italian restaurant both my top and shorts got significantly dirty from their chair. It was acknowledged by the staff and I got some food discount unfortunately the stain on the shorts did not come out during washing.
The beach area is somewhat useless very few customers go there, because of the use of motorized water sports. There is an ever present smell of petrol in the air. During low tide on the photos the area looks fantastic but you can’t swim because the water is too low.
The biggest disappointment for us was the food. The exception to this is the breakfast buffet which has a large selection to choose from. I would however have liked to see some variety over an 8 day stay. Unlike other resorts, at Alton you actually have to find a waiter and ask for your coffee. Not once during our 8 day stay were we asked if we wanted coffee when we sat down for our breakfast.
The dinner buffet was terrible not worth the money the food was over or under cooked on many occasions and blunt. There was very little variety, dessert was more or less the same every time. Well the size of the glass changed to make it look like it’s something different. The food had no wow factor, was not inspiring or appetizing.

Outside the Alton there are many restaurants to choose from, some will come to pick you up and drop you off again after dinner. The quality and price is much better. The general area outside is dirty and smells. Footpath is very narrow and many sections are missing or under constructions. It is not suitable to push a pram along as the sections missing usually have a hole in the ground with the sewer running below it.

We bought this as part of a deal package in Australia. If you end up choosing the Alton make sure you negotiate a good deal. We had free airport pickup and drop off, and 8 ‘free’ massages. When you have vouchers for meals and young kids maximize the voucher by only using them for adults and paying for the kids. If you are unsure ask, the vouchers don’t exactly specify how they can be used and are somewhat open to interpretation.

As the rating goes the resort itself is average to good but when it comes to food I have to give it a poor to terrible as it's such a disappointment and a real let down. We have spoken to many other guests and every single one of them was not happy with the dinner buffet. It's a pity really as this could be a great resort if it just fixed a few things.

Room Tip: Ground floor, near pool.

Dear valued guest,

Many thanks for the positive comments that you make, and also for the points on which we must approve.

The housekeeping issues you mention have been discussed with our Housekeeping team, and the relevant issues also with our Kids Club staff. The Kids Club is a new addition to our hotel and we are very keen to receive feedback to make any necessary improvements.

Any swimming pool system is a delicate balance between the chlorination and acidity of the water and there was a occurrence earlier this month where this was in imbalance, very possibly due to the start of our rainy season with a lot of rain after a long dry period. Our pool is also a lagoon style pool with lots of boulders in it and one full side as sand. This did cause an algae bloom to occur for a short period of time, which was mostly visible only below the boulders in the pool. As soon as we were aware of this we arranged additional cleaners to make a special clean and I am glad to say that the pool was quickly returned to a good condition. Pool cleanliness is a mater of absolute importance to us and we have two staff full time just to maintain and clean the pool.

Our evening buffets are each themed differently, currently we do three each week. One is an Indonesian buffet dinner with a traditional Balinese dance performance, this takes place outdoors in our beautiful garden area. Another is the BQQ of various meats and seafoods that we do at our By the C beachside restaurant. And finally we have the International evening buffet with cabaret performance. So each of the three evening dinners are quite different and varied.

Once again, thank you for your feedback and my apologies that we did not live up to your expectations in some areas.

The hotel is in a lovely location and you can walk straight out onto the beach, where the hotel offers lots of water sports (for a price) to keep you busy. The food options are good from all 3 restaurants, we stayed all inclusive and made good use of food and drinks on offer. The hotel is looking a bit dated now and could do with upgrading to keep it's 5 * rating, the pool could definately do with a good scrub, but is till clean enough to use with no worries, and how else will you make use of the swim up bar????!!

It was a great experience staying at Aston Bali and enjoyed the great location & hospitality. The check-in & Check out were smooth and quick. We didn’t like the room booked by us & was immediately suggested us an upgrade, the staff was very helpful in providing us the most comfortable room with an ocean front view which was spacious with everything we needed during our stay. Buffet breakfast is great with plenty of options & great food. During our stay we mostly dined at Giorgio an Italian Restaurant based on the freshness and the authenticity of the ingredients every meal there was great owing to the ambiance & super staff. The property is amazing to enjoy by the beach during the day & evening. Overall the hotel was great stay hence would recommend this hotel and looking forward to staying there again during my next trip to Bali.

Room Tip: Try to book the ocean front rooms as they have the best view.
