“Large hotel with old charm and beach restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 April 2014

This is an older hotel in extensive ground with Balinese villas and usual rooms/suites in 3-storey blocks, we spent four days and quite enjoy it. It is the last big hotel in the Benoa peninsula before the road ends at sea but we did not get the peaceful environment we expected. During the day, there are coach loads of both local and overseas tourists using the sea sports facilities in the area. So the beach is filled with tour groups and the smell of petro fumes which the hotel can do nothing about. The hotel is quiet because it is seperated from the beach by the main road, but the hotel also runs the TAO restaurant by the beach, details below.

Reception and services at the hotel are excellent but we did have a bad start of our holiday due to missing pickup driver from hotel travel agent. Although it is not hotel fault, we expected more help from hotel front desk to track down travel agent driver because two helpful airport help-desk staff also could not get an answer from travel agent phone lines. We spent almost 40 minutes at airport exit waiting and looking for agent/driver who turned up and did not even appologise. The hotel upgraded us to poolside room which is quiet but it is quite a walk to reception and restaurants. There are ramps and lifts so we think this hotel is also wheel chair friendly but the ground is quite big. If you like a taste of traditional Balinese setting and don't mind worn out decor and broken tiles (many broken tiles in swimming pool area), then you will enjoy this hotel. But you should move to other places up the same road if you prefer modern hotels with sanitized surroundings. The next hotel down the road is Novotel with a better pool and deck area but the gardens and villas are nowhere near the tastefully laid out surroundings of this old hotel.

Rooms are old with usual 4 star facilities including safe in wardrobe but there is no bath. Minibar was stocked only after guests leave a deposit at the front desk. Some will find the air-con noisy as it is the older centralised system with doubtful speed and temperature adjustments. Hotel staff is obviously aware of problem so there is a key card keeping air-con running even when guests are out, so room is always cool. Breakfast is reasonable quality but rather limited in variety and the restaurant can get really crowded when loud PRC tour groups gather for breakfast. In contrast, we had a few meals at the TAO restaurant across the beach road and the service and quality of food feel better. This is an excellent and romantic setting for evening meal because it is set in the hotel second swimming pool area next to the beach (which is public). After 4-5pm, when all the noisy sea sports activities end, the beach and pool setting is one of the best we have seen in Bali. I had my birthday dinner there and the manager kindly sent two singers to play a few love songs, what a lovely service!

Like many other Asia hotels, there are more PRC tour groups visible both in hotels and at the sea sports centres on Benoa beach. Some of these groups are really loud and you will find some Chinese signs in this hotel telling PRC guests to keep quiet and respect tranquility. It is sign of the times, we have been to some Bangkok hotels where PRC tour groups use a different breakfast area away from western guests. Overall, I think the Ramada has done well to keep a Balinese setting and good services, we will probably stay in a villa next visit.

Room Tip: If you don't mind long walk to reception and beach, stay at far end of hotel to avoid mostly noi...

Dear oscar28,
Warmest greetings from Ramada Benoa Bali!
Thank you for taking the time to comment on your recent stay with Ramada Benoa Bali. Feedback such as yours is always of great assistance in helping us to further refine our service and improve our facilities. We agree that the beach can sometimes be a little busy with water sports so we provide the shuttle service to another beach (Geger and Kuta beach) daily for our guests to enjoy.
Regarding the travel agent sometimes it is hard to contact them especially when the number provided is no longer become their contact business number.
We thank you for your compliment to our garden and about the pool is it is on our careful plan to renovate as we trying to avoid complaints from our guests who are expecting for a relaxing holiday experiences. We also thank you for your compliment for our Tao “Thai” restaurant. Our Thai lady chef would be more than happy to cook your favorite Thai dishes. The one bed room villa with pool would be a great villa fo you to enjoy your next visit.
We are looking forward to having the opportunity to welcome you in the near future.

Travelling to Bali for 10 days on my own was a bit daunting at first, but the staff at Ramada made me feel so comfortable and confident in my stay. As some travellers have mentioned, it is a quiet location (I came back 5 days ago), however it was low season and I could see that in busier times, this spot would be bustling - especially near the beach area which is 5 mins away. The hotel helped me to arrange local/day-trip transport and were great at suggesting things to do. (By the way, if you need an all day driver, try TOPO who has a stall across the street from the Grand Mirage). I would recommend this hotel and would stay again :D

Room Tip: I would select a room overlooking the garden.

My wife and I are staying here for a week now. You can tell the hotel was once a fantastic place to live in but has not been looked after. Some points to note

Location- average - its quiet around here but the beach is on the other side of the road where the hotel owns a poolside restaurant. Beach is horribly noisy and cluttered with boats so getting into the water is almost unimaginable. Most independent restaurants start at about 1.5 km away.. so biking is a better option if you are not a walker. Dining options are also available at hotels next door.

Hotel infrastructure- good- nice set up..nice pool.. games section.. spacious rooms, 3 restaurant's. It was probably one of the better places to stay in its heyday

Hotel maintenance - poor - very badly maintained hotel. The staff try hard but am sure its not backed well enough by management as its quite obvious. Broken, chipped, dull, discoloured tiles and walls. Swimming pool tiles are out in a large section and has been untouched for a while. Air conditioning did not work well. The central AC did not cool nor were the inroom controls working. They shifted us to the adjacent room when its was better but not good enough.. we managed cos we didn't want to change rooms everyday. We still woke up in the night feeling the heat. WIFI was very weak and required multiple complaints to be fixed.

Staff - very kind - Nice set of personnel who want to do a lot to keep you comfortable but the hotel policies and procedures are quite rigid.. so doesn't allow flexibility. I had ordered a drink at the pool and asked for it to be billed to my room which the bartender agreed to. Later at 2315 at night I get a call saying I had to settle it as I did not have a deposit. Thats not a time to wake a guest.

Food - Good - there is nothing exceptional about the food at the hotel.. regular stuff. Its decently priced but there are better dining options around. Try the Whacko beach club opposite to the hotel.. food was yum. The sports bar and grill is a good option for drinks. Breakfast at the hotel is a good spread with breads.. eggs.. fruits.. cereals..local stuff etc.

Overall verdict - I would not recommend it. I would suggest you try another place even if you got this one cheaper by 30-40%. We paid about $100 a night. Its just a lot of adjusting that you have to make and its not something you want to do on a holiday.

I didn't try the Spa.. but after the sub standard experience over all I did not want to.

Ask me if you need more info .. happy to help

A quieter location to stay. Very good service from start to finish and staying in room until 7pm on last night was no problems at all. Stayed eight nights and the location allows for relaxing stay or catch the free bus daily to Kuta. Would stay again.

Just back from 8 nights at Ramada (deal through Luxury Escapes). Stayed during Nyepi (Silent Day) and took advantage of the hotel organising a tour and VIP treatment in the local village for the Ogoh-ogoh parade and amazing ceremonies on the eve of Nyepi. Silent Day isn’t so silent with 260 guests locked in the resort for 24 hours around a comparatively smallish hotel pool.

We chose the upgrade package with the poolview room, but like several others, asked to shift rooms to be downstairs beside the pool and ‘Bale Bengong’ cabanas. The staff were all extremely polite and always happy to help. Housekeeping was a bit touch and go – we had to use pool towels on two days as our bathroom towels had been taken and not replaced.

Breakfasts are OK with a good selection, but no variance at all in hot meals or fresh fruits daily. There was nothing new at all on the breakfast buffet to discover each day, which would be our only recommendation there. Coffee/tea table service is minimal, and I had to resort to self-service most days. We ate one dinner buffet, but again there appears little creativity or passion in the food department, so we chose to eat off-site most evenings, with a walk down the street (take a torch as there is no street lighting, and large holes in the pavement!).

The complex and rooms are dated as other reviewers have mentioned. Large sections of the pool bottom is missing tiles, but the paths appear to have been concreted recently. Actually we stopped swimming in the pool after we saw guests actually gobbing up phlegm and spitting in the pool water. I did have to 'sort out' a few other loud foreign guests who seemed to love to scream at each other down the corridors after midnight.

The hotel is at the quieter end of Nusa Dua’s Benoa peninsula, with abundant shops and restaurants located up the main street – which can be a big walk. We rented a scooter ($6/day) so zipped up and down to the shops, money changer, beaches and restaurants easily. Use an official money changer and always count your money after they count it again. They are very clever at whipping 150,000rp out of the pile without you seeing how (“magic fingers”).

The beach immediately across the road is not inviting because of all the jet ski and boat traffic, but the hotel has free shuttles to Geger Beach which is lovely for swimming especially at high tide.

PROS:
• Great staff always have a smile, approachable and obliging
• Nice established gardens and grounds
• Free shuttles to Kuta and Geger Beach
• Wi-Fi coverage

CONS:
• Rooms very outdated
• Swimming pool and immediate beach area
• Value compared to newer venues
• Location – too out of the way for us

While it was a nice stay, we won't be returning to this area or hotel. Last year we took another similar deal in Thailand for a third of the price.

Room Tip: For those who have booked a pool view room - ask for a ground floor room.

I have been to Bali twice before my most recent stay in March 2014 and wasn't all that keen to return after finding it dirty and getting hassled so much. We decided to go back because we got cheap flights and a great accommodation deal at Ramada Nusa Dua, this trip totally changed my opinion and I now can’t wait to return.
We stayed at Ramada on an 8night deal which included lots of inclusions: deluxe pool view room, massages, cocktails, three dinners and much more. I would have excused the staff for treating us as non-priority customers due to only paying bottom dollar but we were treated like royalty from the moment we checked in at 11pm. I could not talk highly enough of the 5 star service we received for the entire trip, after the first night we requested moving from the second floor to a ground floor pool view room, we were travelling with another couple so needed two rooms side by side which wasn’t a problem for the staff at all.
One of the concierge staff “Guitara” made our trip so memorable; we wanted to go to Jimberan Bay for my partners (Katie’s) birthday dinner. Guitara organised one of the beach side seafood restaurants to come and pick us up and we enjoyed some fresh seafood and cocktails at Jimberan as we watched to sun go down, a must do. When we had finished dinner the restaurant staff bought out an amazing chocolate sponge Birthday cake for Katie and told us that our concierge had organised it, we were all totally gobsmacked. We also received a complementary cake from Ramada for Katie’s Birthday on return to the hotel, a very nice touch. Apart from that surprise Guitara also gave us great advice on heaps of awesome day trips that we did: Uluwatu, Ubud and watersports. I will always think of Guitara when talking about our holiday, such a genuine and friendly person and a great asset to Ramada.
Nusa Dua is around 15-20 min out of Kuta and a much nicer and more relaxed part of Bali, the beaches are a lot more pristine and you don’t get hassled at all which was amazing. We still went into Kuta a couple of times which was only a $10 AUD cab ride.
The Ramada Hotel itself: I was a little apprehensive after reading mixed reviews about the hotel, we I can tell you now anyone that gives it a negative review must be a prude. The gardens and grounds of the Ramada were immaculate, the rooms were large and clean and the day beds around the pool were amazing. A couple of pool tiles missing and some signs of aging are expected at any hotel so if people find that a sticking point for negative feedback go and pay $1000 a night somewhere else. The food in general at the Ramada was great, the buffet breakfast had so much to offer, room service was cheap and tasty and the food at the Tao Restaurant on the beach was lovely.
Although the front pool was located across the road with Tao restaurant it was definitely worth the short walk across as it looks over the beach and you always had your pick of sun deck/bed and the pool to yourself.
Sakala resort which is located next to Ramada and owned by the same person was another great spot to swim and eat, the brand new resort had a great infinity pool that overlooks the beach.
All in all one of the most relaxing and enjoyable holiday’s I have been on, and I have been on plenty of holidays. I cannot thank the friendly staff at Ramada enough for making our holiday so enjoyable, I would happily recommend the Ramada to anyone, awesome value and great facilities.
Enjoy

Room Tip: Ground level pool view rooms are the best as you can walk out your front door to the pool rather tha...
