“Fantastic Island, Great little Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2010

We arrived at the hotel after an extremely long flight from th UK via Hong Kong- The Hotel is along a fairly busy street in a popular part of Southern Bali, where most of the tourist hotels are situated. The appearance of the building is good from the outset. Staff were friendly on arrival and we had a welcome drink pressed into our hand whilst having the all inclusive band attached to the other wrist. The room was lovely - we did ask for a double as this was our honeymoon and this was provided for us without extra cost. The only slight downside was that some rooms seem to have adjoining room doors, this did prove quite noisy for us and we mentioned it to the reception staff who immediately moved us to an alternative room without any qualms.
The all inclusive deal is excellent if a little repetitive at times but we did eat out at a few local restaurants including the excellent Bumbu Bali (highly recommended by Lonely Planet Guide) which is situated across the road from the hotel. The hotel also has a chinese restaurant attached and all inclusive guest can dine there if prebooked the day before -there is no limit on how often you do this.
All the hotel staff were friendly and there were lots of beach activities and snorkeling trips on offer - only if the tide is suitable. The beach is next to the hotel but is a little disappointing if you are expecting white sand and fringed by palm trees -its not!
Hotel is very clean but needs a redecoration programme, our bathroom was a bit dated and basic.
Overall nice place to stay , great service, lovely staff, good cocktails and a fantastic Legong Dance show - performed weekly by local dancers and musicians. Oh and do save some of your holiday money for a trip to the Elephant Safari, well worth it as you can get up close and personal with the elephants, rescued from Java as retired logging elephants- as well as enjoying lovely ride through tropical forest.

We have just returned from celebrating our silver wedding anniversary out in Bali - Stayed at this hotel and a good choice it was.

As previous people have said the beach is not the best - but it is ok to walk along - everyone is very friendly. There are the usual stalls on the beach - people will ask you to look - just a polite "No thank you" and they just smile.

I would recommend getting your laundry done - there are stalls on the beach and also lots of laundry in the local village. The hotel is opposite a row of shops and resturants. For a very special - slightly expensive, but worth it - Bumba Bali. Otherwise La Scala - turn right out of the hotel - it is opposite the Grand Mirage entrance. Excellent food and fairly cheap.

Taxis are cheap - the gate man will call one for you. We intended to do lots of things but we found it very humid and ended up going to Kuta market one day when it rained - we got together with a few others and shared a taxi - they took us, waited and bought us back for £4. Then the next day we got a taxi to Tannah Lot - the monostary in the sea - again we shared a taxi - it was about an hour or so - they waited and bought us back for £16 - 200,000 - we were very happy and it was a wonderful place to visit. That is all we did while we were there.

We found the hotel perfect. Quick check in. welcome drink - exceptionally friendly staff. Good drinks. No service - you have to go to the bar. The pool was lovely - but I don't dye my hair!!! We did have a little rain - so we went out and it had passed when we got back.

The food was good - best of all was the mongolian BBQ night. If there is nothing on the menu you fancy you can always order from the snack menu (outside meal times) - but the main mealtime menus are up everyday about 8 so you can read them and decide how you will eat that day.

Highly recommend this hotel - we will return. Free internet available in Reception

after reading various reviews had a few worries, but the hotel was very nice, and staff lovely, really friendly, and cudn't do enough for you. the pool was lovely, just the place to cool off after being in the heat.
The food was nice, ate alot of salads, didn't try the chicken porridge that I read about. there was plenty to choose from.

the only thing I was dissapoointed in ws the beach, if your looking for white sand and crystal blue waters then Bali isn't for you.

But we had a lovely time. Its a long way out from any where so be prepared to spend a good few hours in a car going to visit different places.

We went to the elephant safari, which was very nice, but found it quite expensive worked out to about £54 for a half hour ride and a lunch of sorts. plus about £20 for taxi there and back. he waited for us.

It was a relaxing hol which is what wes were looking for.
i would just say a trip to Kuta is a must, the market is huge and is on every day, and you can do some serious bartering, get things really cheap if prepared to barter.

We didn't do as much sightseeing as we usually do because everything was so far away, but we did do heartland of bali, which was lovely, but an awful long day. and alot of that spent in car travelling to different sights.

My wife and I stayed in April 2010 in room 209 a "Romantic Room". As said before by many reviewers the Friendly Service, good food, and excellent value for money make this hotel.

However we very nearly changed hotel on our first day as when we arrived the bed valance and mosquito netting was not clean and the everything in the room/bathroom was a bit old/worn. Also the beach is not great and a bit dirty. The chlorine in the pool turns bleached hair green, they have big signs about it plus one of the guests ended up with green hair after just a few days of pool use, so for many women including my wife the pool was not useable.

After spending the second day of our holiday looking at the Bali Hyatt and other options nearby we realised it was going to cost us twice as much if we changed hotel, the all inclusive deal at the Mirage really is very good value. Overall we were very pleased we stayed as the food is themed each day and is very good (except the "Western Lunch"). Overall I do recomend the hotel if you are not too fussy, it is not the best but it is good value. When we stayed the guests were 20% English, 40% French, 20% Eatern European, 20% German. I would say it is really ideal for famillies, we would go back but it could be so much better if they refreshed the bedrooms.

Just returned from 12nights at Club Bali Mirage and overall we had a great time. The staff are very helful and friendly with the exception of a couple of grumpy ones who work in the pool bar. The food is not the best at buffet meals however the Chopsticks Chinese Restaurant is excellent, but do book in advance as they only take 20 all-inc guests per night.
The drinks are great, the wine is very drinkable and they have a very good cocktail list (beware the Sea Breeze).
Rooms are basic but very clean and sprayed every night for mosquitoes.
Tajung Benoa Beach is not the best, not good for swimming and snorkelling and a lot of litter in the water. Also there are alot of stray dogs roaming the beach, which given Bali's rabies problem was quite worrying.
The main problem we encountered was with the hotel pool. There are signs up warning that if you have blonde hair it might turn green in the pool, what it doesn't warn you is that it also turns your swimwear green if it is white or pastel. Furthermore if you stayed in the pool for any length of time it also turned your SKIN green. Fortunately it washed off your body but does not come out of your clothes!! We have had to throw away most of our swimwear as it is ruined. The Hotel claims it is caused by your suncream mixing with the chlorine but we have never experinced this before after countless holidays. Please be aware and take dark costumes.
Depsite a few problems we had a fab holiday and if like us you are a group then the Hotel represents good value for money, especially for the drinks.

Hotel lovely, people great. Please be aware Bali is extremely hot & humidity is high. Remember to take plenty of sun lotion as it is around £10 for a small bottle if you run out. we all burnt for the first time ever this year and we are used to extreme heat so be warned !!!!. Rooms are a little tired and would benefit from a re vamp. Food was only in one restaurant at a time as the hotel is small and not very full but this suited us fine. Lots to see outside the hotel. A lovely english styled pub called the cherry tree was nice and it was safe to travel outside the hotel night or day. Spent a day out at the volcano, tea plantation, paddy fields and monkey forest and the hotel sent us with a lovely packed lunch to eat along the way. Nothing is too much trouble for balinese folk. I would definately return. For kids: games room was empty most of the time so my boys had free run of pool, darts, table tennis and PS2. p.s We were all bitten at the hotel by mosquitoes, I ended up with infected bites and had to visit the local dr for a/biotics. It was rainy season when we went so mossies are in abundance. take a good repellent as mine didnt work.
