We discussed menu likes & dislikes for the evening meal at £35 per head & were asked to choose our preferred meat. On the night, these were totally ignored & the scraggy meat served was 50% fat & gristle. Apart from the veggies, nothing seemed to have been prepared on the day - but rather brought out of the freezer from a previous occasion.

The following morning, Henry could not wait for us to leave - a checkout time of 10am is not at all relaxing for a country retreat.

Very disappointed - he asked how we would like our eggs cooked at breakfast, then proudly announced that he could only do scrambled. Did not come across as amusing...

My husband and I spent the most wonderful 4 days and nights at Lower Buckton, which proved to be the perfect antidote to our stressful city life. The room was splendidly appointed and the host and hostess took special effort to make sure our holiday was everything we wanted it to be. Their local knowledge was invaluable in making sure we experienced the best of Shropshire and Herefordshire, and after our days out, coming 'home' to the country house made us feel like a lord and a lady. The food is perhaps the best I've had outside a Michelin starred restaurant - and made both the beginning and end of our days so magnificent.
We're so impressed that we'll be escaping to here again this winter as next summer is too long to wait!

We visited as we had some vouchers for a present and the choice was limited! Sounded wonderful but I'm afraid that we were not impressed.
Arrival into an untidy backyard, we wandered around to the front door, festooned with tired and faded travel memorabilia.
The house is incredibly cluttered with books and other memorabilia. Our room was pleasant but had a sofa which proved impossible to sit on,as we just slid off it onto the floor! It did have a TV and DVD, plus a pretty view from the window of the lawn. Nice bed and very clean however.
The bathroom - a little rustic but Ok in a quirky fashion was rather cramped. The toiletries had been decanted into old bottles decorated with stickers, it seemed by a small child - quirky? Maybe.
We booked for dinner ( not included on our vouchers)) on one night but nothing was available for the second which we were disappointed about having read the reviews of the excellent food. But it turned out that this was perhaps just as well.
Dinner was served in the dining room - nice canapes to start with drinks. The main meal was incredibly disappointing - no real choice, we were served with a pork chop with a little sauce of some kind. The veg however were good - a lovely selection of unusual varieties. Fruit crumble for pudding. But really not the gastronomic experience we had been expecting!
We saw little of our hosts, they really couldn't be bothered it seemed. They had some friends staying nearby I think ( hence lack of meals the second night).
Never mind - we booked a meal at the lovely pub/hotel in nearby Leintwardine instead - which was excellent! Only wish we had eaten there both nights!

From our arrival onwards we were made so welcome by our hosts Henry and Carolyn the owners of Lower Buckton Country House.

The food is exceptional for many reasons, but the freshness and use of home-grown or local produce immediately springs to mind. The vegetables were fresh from the garden and so the taste of our main course was exceptional. If you love beautifully cooked food where pride in presentation is also paramount you will love their evening meals. Henry's waiter service was great and humorous in equal measure. It was nice to eat with our fellow guests and their excellent company also made our trip memorable. We stayed in the Blue Room which was well appointed and nicely furnished in a beautiful style, making for a very pleasant relaxing environment with country views over the nearby hills.

The breakfast was cooked to order and was excellent, I especially enjoyed the porridge which contained ginger. I would whole heartly recommend staying here our hosts offered a highly exceptional personal experience. Already thinking about when we would have the opportunity to return!

We found this place via some "foodie" tools...organicholidays.co.uk was one. The website mentioned their membership in Slow Food, Carolyn's famed culinary wizardry with local produce and we were hooked. WOW! We arrived very past dinner feeling very wiped from a long day, not to mention very guilty for keeping everyone...and found everyone (guests and hosts) relaxing with a glass of wine and peals of laughter. We joined them for a dinner that started with a delicious fresh-from-the-garden herb souffle. I ate mine and my daughters...it was perfect, tasted of a summers eve, and was a great glimpse of what was to come...the dinner commenced with their own pork and ended with us witnessing Carolyn in the garden gathering elderflower for the fritters that complemented the pudding of tangy sweet citrusy rhubarb dotted with clotted cream (i think?). Wow. All, this while getting to know people from all over England (and the world), the hosts, and gazing at the house with all its treasures. The beds were fabulously comfy, the trays of biscuits, chocolates and fresh strawberries served every day a treat for our ten year old, and the views from our windows of the fields, the animals, the creek/swimming hole, the gorgeous border gardens, and even the glimpse of the Glamping site complete with gypsy caravan and teepee (!), made every day start with a smile. We left begrudgingly, only to realize halfway to the Lake District we had left a bag behind...and they next day posted it for us to a friend so that we could get it before leaving the UK! THANK YOU BOTH! Will definitely stay again!

Room Tip: We had the Blue Room...great for fam of 3.
