“Our perfect wedding day!!”
Reviewed 29 August 2013

We had our wedding reception at the Norfolk Courtyard haing stayed as B&B guests a few years ago. The setting is stunning and the accommodation beautiful. Catherine & Simon were perfect hosts and all our guests had the most fantastic time. Our pictures are beautiful and I can't recommend this venue highly enough for a relaxing holiday or as a wedding venue.

Perfect and stunning romantic setting for the best day of your life...... Totally exceeded all our expectations!

It is beautiful!
Simon and Catherine are very helpful and friendly, nothing is too much bother, even extra milk for the little one!
The rooms are lush. Elegant, roomy and lots of special little touches.
My 2 year old little girl loved running around in the garden and going to say hello to the chickens!
There is a wide variety of food on offer at breakfast, plenty to keep you going for a full day at the beach.
Simon gave lots of good advice for local places to visit - thank you, it made things a lot easier to find!
The most relaxed i have felt for a long time, even with Sofia running around!
Thank you so much for a wonderful break, we hope to see you all again very soon!

The Norfolk Courtyard is a nice place to stay for two nights. Simon and Catherine, the hosts, were welcoming. We stayed in the Old Stables. A bedroom which was was clean, tastefully decorated, with a good size, comfortable bed. We had an en-suite wet room, with a good shower and, "The White Company" shower soap.
Breakfast was a little unusual to us, as we are used to being looked after. It was " help yourself" , with home made produce. There were plenty of free range eggs, bread and croissants. There was a coffee machine to master, but unfortunately no milk frother, to warm milk for coffee. We would liked to have had someone around at breakfast time, to assist us with these things. In all we enjoyed our stay.
On arrival Simon went through an information book with us. There were many places to visit in the surrounding area.

The Norfolk Courtyard is the perfect B&B for a quiet relaxing getaway. Having arrived wet through after being caught in a rainstorm on Wells beach we received a very warm welcome from Catherine who showed us to our room which was part of a converted barn adjacent to the main house. Everything we needed to know was explained and Catherine even offered to take all of our wet clothes and dry them over their Aga.
There were freshly baked home made brownies in the room which was nicely appointed with a double bed and en-suite wet room and was tastefully decorated with antiques from their barn. An additional mattress had been placed in the room for our teenage son which sufficed perfectly.
Breakfast was served in a first floor room at the end of the barn which was light and airy and beautifully decorated. There was a lovely selection of cereals, pastries, fresh fruit toast & home made jam and cook your own boiled eggs, it would have been nice to have the option of a cooked breakfast but this did not effect the quality of our stay.
After breakfast we were able to browse the antiques barn and buy a gift for our friends who we had been to visit.
All in all Norfolk Courtyard is a lovely B&B, in a beautiful setting. Simon and Catherine are great hosts and I am sure you will enjoy your stay there.

The Norfolk Courtyard is a very nice place. It is well fitted out, very cosy and comfortable. True it is in a very quiet place but that is definitely a good thing. Simon the owner was very nice with a pleasant greeting upon arrival, information given about the room and locality etc. Breakfast was ok, very much a do it yourself affair which I am not so keen on as I like to be looked after when away! Still the fare on offer was nice with some homemade and very local produce each day, very tasty. Less keen on the egg boiler which is a pain actually but got there in he end, very hard bodied on day one and raw and runny on day two with exactly same settings?. My personal view is that a selection of meats and cheeses is needed to complete this breakfast. However perfectly nice to be fair. The room was great with a very nice bath and comfortable bed. Once again, and again a personal thing, the television is way too small. I honestly could not see it properly from the bed and as I do like my tv ( sad but each to his own) I was very disappointed with this. All in all 4.25/5.

Room Tip: All the rooms are very good, if you want a bath as opposed to a shower then make sure you check. We...

I'm going to write this as a mini guide for people looking to visit so you know what to expect...

My friend and I recently stayed in the new 'The Old GameKeeper's Hut' {I think that's what they called it!} after staying in a similar hut in Cumbria.

The hut was a really good size and sat at the bottom of a track which wound its way between the b&b accommodation, main house and past the chicken coop!

The toilets and shower were in a shed - a very nice, Farrow-and-Ball-ed shed {but still a shed!} - {note: without heating, which made it nippy when getting in and out of the shower!} a short hop away, and past the chickens.

There was a nice kitchen/dining area in a large barn, again a short hop away. This had a hob, the necessary pots and pans to rustle up a simple meal, dish washing facilities and was replete with Cath Kidston-esque tea towels. Tea, coffee, milk & hot choc were complimentary. There's room enough for around 8 people to munch along a long table down the middle. This room wasn't heated. It might benefit from a nice stove which would help to dry wet things in bad weather {or simply towels after a shower!} as we struggled a little bit with where to put these/drying them in the tiny hut.

Upsides:
:: A good price
:: A lovely location {will be better once the fruit trees have grown up behind the hut and between the hut and the main house etc so that there's a little more privacy}
:: Nice to be amongst the chickens!
:: A REALLY USEFUL welcome book with thorough information about the local area
:: A lovely, well informed owner who welcomed us and gave us a swift verbal guide to where's good to go
:: Character-ful!
:: A great log stove to keep you nice and snug - irrespective of the climate!
:: An unending supply of wood and firelighters is included in the price.
:: The other hut is VERY close - right next door. This would be great if two couples booked them both out together.

Negatives:

:: The other hut is VERY CLOSE - right next door.
:: Nowhere to dry wet stuff, really
:: Shower not very powerful. Shame a power shower wasn't invested in. When you're chilly from staying in a hut, it's nice to have an invigorating hot shower!
:: While the antiques do add character, the hut does feel slightly crowded with antiques. Not sure it quite needs TWO lamps that don't work and are just for decoration, for example.
:: There are TWO fire alarms in the tiny hut with the log burner. While this may be a fire safety stipulation, that did seem like ridiculous overkill! We had a nightmare with one of them which kept going off as it's IMPOSSIBLE to light a log stove without making a little smoke. We ended up taking the battery out {sorry!}. Also, the red flashing light drove us crazy. Had to stick a plaster over it!}.

Overall, we had a really great time and would recommend it to anyone wanting a hut-living experience in Norfolk!

Thank you for having us!

Simon and Catherine are charming and wonderful hosts. We were greeted with a warm fire, home made cookies and a generous pantry to start us off nicely. The cottage is cosy, and very well equipped with additional books, DVD's and toys if you have small children. However the information pack that Simon took us through leaves you very little time to sit about, as there is so much to do when you are based at this very central and convenient location.
The setting is beautiful, quiet and relaxing. You can take a walk and make friends with the chickens and ducks that reside on the grounds. We had a family break and all 3 of us were more than happy. This would also suit a break for couples or friends away together.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Cottage which was comfortable and very peaceful
