A beautiful hotel that oozes elegance and luxury. From the stunning staircase in reception, fabulous ballroom where dinner is taken, fantastic breakfast room and lovely building exterior and gardens.
If half board, you can choose either starter & main or main & dessert. The food is very good although choice is a bit limited to 2 items per course. There is a good choice of beers including IPA, Dunkel, and Weissbeer which are all very nice. They ask if you want water which we thought was included but they then charge 5 Euros. That's fine, but they should at least warn you first. When you leave the Dining room you need to ask for the bill to charge to your room and you can add a gratuity here. Breakfast is very nice with lots of choice. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean and modern and nicely decorated with free water available in the fridge. Also a free bottle of nice red wine to enjoy. The bathroom is also very nice with Molton Brown toiletries. The hotel also offers turndown and biscuits of an evening which is a nice touch. WiFi is very good quality around the hotel. The grounds around the hotel offer some lovely walks including a hillside behind the hotel which offers fantastic views. There is also good birdwatching. There are lots of lovely areas around the hotel to sit and enjoy the scenery. You can ask for a taxi to Chaves which is a beautiful historic town worth exploring for a few hours. It cost approx 30 euros each way including tip. Overall a fabulous relaxing holiday.

The Vidago Palace hotel is beautiful and peaceful.
The rooms are comfortable and immaculately clean. The bed was the most comfortable I have slept on and the pillows were amazing. I usually sleep badly in hotels but The Vidago was heaven!
Breakfast is superb but the evening meals on the half board menu were great if on a diet! The portions were small. Much of the food was bland.
The golf course is stunning, we had 2 days of millionaires golf with hardly a person in sight. Eat in the golf club rather than the poolside bar; it is cheaper and the service much more efficient.
What the hotel lacks is good management and information for its customers.
Why were we not told that we could eat in the other bars up to the value of E20 which was the half board allowance!
There is a tapas bar with wines for tasting. We were given a menu with prices but nothing about the drinks. Consequently the wines by the glass were very expensive.
The food was mediocre.
The evening before our last the maid gave us a sheet about a special menu with wine pairings. A Michelin chef from another restaurant was joining the Vidago chef to present this meal. It cost E110 per person and was to start at 8.00pm.
The guests were ready but it took a while for the staff to let us into the dining room.
We were then served port cocktails and huge appetisers. As we were hungry we ate a few and stood around for ages before we could go to our table.
The two chefs then talked about their passion for good cuisine.
We started to eat at 9.30pm. The 6 courses were beautifully presented but like most of the food in the hotel it was bland. The wines were a real disappointment considering the price of the meal. They were cheap wines which did nothing to enhance our enjoyment of the occasion. I would recommend that you don't allow yourself to be tempted by a similar offer.
The staff were friendly but not proactive.
This is a superb hotel and I would return but if the management don't buck up their ideas the hotel will not survive.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a superior room.

The Vidago Palace lives up to it’s promise on the web sites. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The breakfast could not be bettered. Fine dining in the main dining room was excellent value. The rooms are very comfortable and well provided with sockets for all the gismos we carry these days. The golf course is challenging for mid handicappers because of the stategic placement of a multiplicity of bunkers! The closing holes are difficult because they are blind. We had three rounds and were improving each time with a little course knowledge. Very accessible to get to because of the motorway network.

Very beautiful place, relaxing atmosphere, great breakfast. The spa is very well appointed, especially the jets pool.
The room and the bathroom were very clean, the bedding was luxuries.
We don't play golf but for those who do it's very convenient as the golf course is right on the property.
Don't forget to use the bikes and hike behind the property.

This year is the second time I stay at Vidago Palace hotel and it's always a pleasure to be back! Great ambiance. Lovely rooms! Amazing breakfast! The best orange juice and fruit platter ! If you are a golfer don't miss the course next door!
