“Great Hotel, Location, Value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 April 2014

We found Palm Grove to be one of the better hotels on the island, certainly with the best beach and snorkeling. Beach had maybe 8 people on it not including us, and we went during both Raro and NZ spring breaks/holiday. Normally I drive everywhere looking for the best snorkel but no need, it was in front of the hotel. Literally.
Corresponded with Joann (manager of the property) and she was exceptionally helpful in booking the stay , as well as planning dinners, cars, bike rental, day trip to Aitutaki (MUST DO!).
We had a garden room, Joanne helped get 3 beds so the family was comfortable (kids didnt have to share for a change). Each room is like a little villa, you do not share walls with anyone else. G12 was our room, and that side is quiet and restful. I think the units by the pool would be less so. The on teh beach units are wonderful, I would book those next time rather than staying at any other hotel. You can hear the roar of the waves on the reef right from your room.
Our Garden room was simplistic yet very functional. We are used to staying at 4 Seasons resorts but found no issues with Palm Grove rooms. Quiet, safe, relaxing, totally functional with kitchen, fridge, sink, microwave, full bathroom, separate adults vs kids sleeping area, patio off back with view of garden and mountain. Very nice. I think the hotel is listed as 3.5 stars out of 5 in terms of luxury, and that is fair. This isnt 4 Seasons, nor does it pretend to be or charge you for being something it isnt. I gave 5 stars knowing now this is the BEST 3-4 star value on the island.
Breakfast was fine, a bit too basic for our desires but it's free, or the store and a shop 5 min walk for more food.
Dinner on site was really good. Friday night happy hour is a must do.
Free use of snorkel gear (they have TONS of gear, no need to bring your own as I did), and kayaks . There are lounge chairs on the beach to use too.
Did I mention how incredible the beach is??
Thanks Joanne and Palm Grove, see you again in a few years if not sooner.

Room Tip: Book a beach villa/room. Best view on the island.

Staff here were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were well maintained and very clean. Kitchen facilities are in the rooms if you want to self-cater a couple of nights (there's a shop just down the road that sells fresh yellowfin tuna). The beach is just across the road (or straight out the front if you get a beach bungalow) and is beautiful. Would definitely stay here again.

Palm Grove was the perfect choice for us - 4 adults, 2 kids. We stayed in the 3 bedroom garden bungalow which was great - had everything that we needed but next time I think we will splash out on the Beach Villa :)
The resort itself was very quiet, probably less than half full, but we feel it was the perfect time to visit, beautiful sunny days & it rained mainly overnight.
The complimentary breakfast was great, my son especially loved the banana & lemon breads!
We ate a couple of times at the Yellow Hisbiscus restaurant which was delicious.
Wigmores supermarket is literally 5 mins down the road which had a great variety of grocery items, yummy donuts & ice-cream. Prices are a lot higher than here in NZ but hey you are on a tropical island so it has to be expected! Also try their fresh tuna if they have any in.....it sells out very quickly.
The beach was absolutely stunning, 90% of the time we had it to ourselves. It's very secluded & the water is like stepping into a bath. We went all around the island & visited all the beaches & by far this is up there as one of the best.
Friday night Happy hour was great, as much wine & beer as you want and the cocktails were fantastic!
The staff were lovely, perfect location - we will be back :)

We couldn't make up our minds what to do ,as we didn't want to make a fuss around home ,but we needed a getaway Rarotonga is just the place for us as we have been there 6 times now and done all the tourist bits so all that was left to do was to the Beach or Shopping and Relax
We chose the Palm Grove this time around , for availability and Price ,choosing a garden Setting ( We got given G5 on arrival ),and the garden Chalets have all been refurbished and continuing work on to the Beach Front Villas, apart from one still to be done ,but still pulling top Dollar according to the English couple who were in there .
We had good nights sleep no road or surf noise ,the Chooks didn't bother me with their Crowing in the Morning But definitely a worry health wise with their Droppings ,Not a good look
and I must Agree the dogs need seeing to ,as does the laundry ,I see a review from 2011 gave the Laundry a z- I quite agree ,but we got by OK it wasn't the end of the world and we were on Holiday who wants to do washing ,with such a great beach & Staffing were great , Front of House ,Sorry didn't find them mixing to well ,only on the Friday night do , but not with all the Clientele but the American no Introduction or questions ,just getting on with the Job seemed to me .
ONE Point to make DON'T call up the ROOM occupiers 15 min to 10 am asking to settle the Bill We are not going to do a runner.I was just on my way when the receptionist called.
Excellent Meals ,Breakfast 5 star, everything a relaxing Holiday person could wish for,and the Friday night meal and Singer /DJ were great had to dance ,need a bigger Patio ,AH!! Please Get a Cupboard Flat pack and screw it to the Wall in the Lounge for a wardrobe ,to get our cloths out of the Bathroom steam ,what a place to hang your cloths DOH! and the wooden safe and pad lock again the 2011 review says it all But as Mc Arthur Said " i`ll be back "It all takes time and Money and those floods and Slips didn't help some years ago ,slowed down the accommodation refurbishments ,that became a re-build ,Palm Grove Well worth a visit 4 Star
Weather wise very hot and sticky Feb /March , But Oct/ Nov Next time around for us in 2015
God willing .

Room Tip: G5 Garden setting in the Middle of Resort nearly over looking the Pool ,Nice and quiet

Just to start out there are no chain hotels because of land laws
We normally stay at hiltons, a hilton this is not.
This hotel was awesome, they have a beach with kayaks and snorkel gear as well as play toys for kis. The beach is secluded and nothing like the tourist beach of muri
We stayed in beach villa for 4nights.

With3 kids this was great. One room upstairs with king bed private balcony and bathroom. Two cinder block rooms on main. One with a king and twin and another another with 2 twins. All with their own air conditioning. You have a private covered deck with bbq. Nice sitting room kitchen with all the dishes and pots. There is also a washer to take care of dirty clothes. Is this 5 star. No. But is this a truly great beach house for the price-yes. Would have been dissapointed if we stayed at pacific resort instead of here.

You can snorkel off the beach and staff shows you how to open coconuts.

Breakfast is nice but continental.

We stayed in garden house one night. For price is awesome. Huge plave with 2 bedrooms and kitchen. Under renovation now but when finished will be awesome

We will be back. Great place for families, the staff is very nice

Our family made a return trip to Rarotonga and the Palm Grove staying the first couple weeks of February.
We were not disappointed and found we had the same great experience as we did three years ago. It's already been said In detail so I will hit the highlights. The beach, unbelievable, as amazing as the first time we saw it. The best location for beach and snorkelling. Good accommodations with 3 choices. It will totally meet your needs if you are looking for self catering. (The beach accommodations have just been renovated.)
The Restaurant serves great food, wonderful presentation, lots on your plate at a very good price.
Friday night gatherings were great fun with an opportunity to meet others at the resort.
Morning tropical breakfast was great. I am personally addicted to the bananas. Good variety of fruit, breads, yogurt and excellent coffee with something for all.
The Staff. The staff at the Palm Grove are grand. Pleasant, caring, helpful, providing excellent customer service. I did not get everyone's names but
to Betsy (owner), Joanne (manager) Nga, (thanks for the fresh coconut demo)Alone, Mata, Avoa, Apii, Esther, Mama Noeline, the great cleaning staff and anyone I missed many thanks for another memorable holiday.
We will be back.

Well it's five stars all the way simply because of It's The Cook Islands init !!! This really has to be the destination of a lifetime or as in our case three lifetimes. We had a cabin overlooking the lagoon and all you could hear is the surf on the reef. The cabin was clean and had all you needed for your stay The excellent restaurant did a super breakfast and excellent dinner and was franchised to the hotel. All the staff, especially the restaurant, were so friendly. The beach had not a soul on it for 90% of the time, bliss. You can stay in resort hotel if you wish, but to us this was an ideal location. The fish in the lagoon are so beautiful except for the conger eel with the crunchy teeth!!!

Room Tip: Oh on the beach front every time.
