We were not staying at The Rarotongan Beach Resort but decided upon visiting the resort on a drive round the island that we would go for dinner there.

We booked a few days in advance as the chef's specials sounded delicious but our experience was similar to some of the other reviews on here as the service was horrendous.

My partner went to book a table for the Saturday night (on a Weds) and was firstly ignored for ten minutes despite there being four members of staff kicking about the bar. She finally caught the attention of one staff member and was basically he wasn't interested in helping her. He wrote her name on the back of a till receipt. She asked him what entertainment was happening and he suggested the fire show at which she asked; "What's involved" and his reply was "Food".

Despite this we still decided to go ahead and return on the Saturday night. My partner arrived to find no table was booked (shock) and after managing to collar the only member of staff that was helpful (a dishwasher)did he find her a table.

The same kind staff member upon request seated us in one of the many "shacks" that they have available and we waited for 15 minutes before a menu was brought over to us. After another 15 minutes of staring intently at the four bar/restaurant staff I gave in and went to order the food and drinks from the bar, Now bearing in mind that this was not a busy night (there was maybe 8 other people in the restaurant) I stood there being ignored until the same guy who was cleaning glasses signalled for the bar tender to stop playing on her computer and take my order.

The only saving grace of the evening was the food as the Sangeria was disgusting!. The Lamb Cutlets were tasty (although cold) and the Game fish was great (also cold) - Our 'waiter" had an upside down smile and looked like he wanted to be anywhere else than there and when we had finished our meal with the dirty plates in front of us and waited for 15 minutes we decided to ask a female cleaner for the bill.

Upside - The cleaners are more attentive than the bar / restaurant staff
Downside - The service is terrible, the food although tasty is cold and the drinks were poor

So so so disappointed with this place. we stayed at the sanctuary which is advertised as the 'new' adults only accomodation in rarotonga. It is simply a section of the old hotel that they charge more for to have no children stay. it is very outdated, poorly maintained and far to expensive!!! you can get more and earns better for less money! learn from our mistake do your research there is such more out there!

Stayed here for 7 nights last week, great room, fab house keeping always smiling, lovely beach and snorkelling, food excellent, service poor and staff not quite as happy as house keeping !!! , waited 40 mins for a tuna steak, the tuna was amazing,(must have fab chefs) when it finally arrived it's a shame as it was like that the whole week and it really let's the place down. Room was a very good size , maybe a little tired in areas but not enough to worry about. Fab new pool , looks great. ATM out of order all week , bit of a pain and the cashier didn't give cash out...seemed odd as my partner needed to go to the hospital for an injury, and the taxi was going to be $40 or we could have the emergency DR out who charged $200 and we needed to withdraw cash to pay for either option, the resort doesn't have an option of a car loan for situations like this so we ended up using our free one day car hire to get him to the hospital ( it's a good job we had that tho as that was a life saver). He also needed to be at the hospital for daily pain relief injections for the next three days, so it would have been nice if reception could have charged the taxi to our room account or had the facility to organise transport in situations like this, I do understand that it's quite a unique situation and not sure if they could put in place some procedures to cover things like this as it was frustrating for me being worried about my partner who was in pain and staff at reception could have been a bit more helpful, just seemed a little disinterested !! So mixed feelings really, as yes we got a car to get him to the hospital, and yes the young man at reception was very pleasant when booking the car !
Back to house keeping , legendary !!! Never once dropped their standards even when having to clean up the dressings from my partners injury, never complained , always smiling, nothing too much trouble ( Andrea your brilliant ).
Kids loved the snorkelling, SUP and kayaking and had plenty to do, the pool area and activities board kept them busy and entertained, they had a great time!
We were in room 101 great location handy to everything, beds really comfortable..... So long story short, we had a unique experience, in general it's a great place to stay. :)

We recently stayed here for a friends wedding. The setting was stunning, great sunsets, amazing beach with lots of watersports (better than Muri I thought). The rooms, setting etc were a bit tired, though perfectly adequate when you don't spend too much time in your room! Comfy beds too!
