“Never been so spoilt”
Reviewed 22 May 2011

The charming couple who own and run this very special 5-star B&B could not have been more welcoming nor have higher standards. Everything was spotless and in the very best possible taste. The care that has gone in to the choice of colours and furnishings is impressive, no matter where you look. The fantastic views of the river and the richly wooded hills are just the icing on what is a perfect cake. We'll be back and not just for the beauty of the place: our wonderful hosts have given us the feeling that we have had more than a holiday, we have made two new friends. Correction: make that four because resident Labradors Bill and Poppy also gave us a fantastic welcome.

Room Tip: 'Biscay' was excellent.

Just returned from our first stay here - we had "Biscay" and enjoyed sitting out on the balcony, watching the oystercatchers fly past towards the sea. Also loved the cake on the terrace with the assistance of the dogs. Beautiful breakfasts and dinners. Whole thing effortlessly understated and very relaxing. Took the ferry over one evening for dinner at the "Seahorse" for our anniversary - wonderful meal. Kit & Penny are perfect hosts. Will definitely return.

We are so sad to leave Nonsuch after another wonderful stay. Views, food, hospitality, Bill and Poppy all on top form! Can't wait to return. Thank you Kit and Penny for looking after us so well.

Just returned from a three night trip. Penny and Kit were delightful, helpful with their local knowledge but not intrusive at all. The rooms were all spotlessly clean and stylish without being fussy and cluttered. Bathroom had powerful shower, bath and nice toiletries Breakfast was a feast...lots of choice and served in the conservatory overlooking the estuary.
Definitely one to return to!

This is by no means an inexpensive B&B, so it sets itself high standards which in our view it meets. The wonderful view of the Dart estuary & the sea/castle to the left give it a head start., but there is much more. We stayed in the " Plymouth" room which has a large bay window & king size bed. The room is very well appointed & the bathroom is light & airy although we didn't quite get the hang of the new shower.
Penny & Kit are very solicitous & Kit's evening meal was enjoyable & was eaten in the evocatively situated dining area.
There are many other facilities of which we did not take advantage in our 2 night stay such as the large lounge with conservatory, the terrace & afternoon cakes.
Really enjoyed our stay here in beautiful Dartmouth/Kingswear.

We were greeted by our hosts, Penny and Kit, who invited us to tea prior to unpacking. They then showed us to a very comfortable room with balcony overlooking the whole of Darthmouth and the river below- an amazing view. Kit, a fine chef, provided gourmet meals in a small elegant setting followed, in the evening by coffee and cordials on the patio.

Room Tip: Request the room with outdoor balcony.

We have just spent 3 nights at Nonsuch House and cannot praise it highly enough. Our room (Plymouth) was large, airy and absolutely spotlessly clean with stunning views of the Dartmouth across the river, the river Dart and out to sea. With a huge bay window which almost felt like a balcony there was also a tiny balcony which was a bonus. The bed was large and very comfortable. Our room had a small bath but no shower however I believe a shower is being installed shortly which will be great. The room next door was a little smaller but had a good sized balcony and shower. The other two bedrooms on the floor above us were also lovely, light and airy with stunning views, showers but without balconies - however no problem as there is a lovely terrace with seating jus below the conservatory.

On arrival we were welcomed with tea and delicious cake which we ate in the conservatory - tea and cake were also available on our return in the afternoons. Breakfasts were superb with selection of cereals, fresh fruit and yoghurt and full English or any part of that with a special each day e.g. omelette. Bread was delicious and homemade as were preserves. We had dinner cooked by Kit on one evening and it was delicious: canapes by the fire followed by three courses and homemade chocolate truffle and coffee.

The Ship Inn just down the hill was good for fish and chips and our meal at the Nu Restaurant at the Old Castle Hotel in Dartmouth was superb.

Nonsuch House is beautiful and attention to detail is fantastic. Penny and Kit were excellent hosts, welcoming and providing great food and beautiful rooms and just the right level of excellent attention. We were blessed with fabulous weather but regardless of the sun Nonsuch House would still have been a great place for a break. We will definitely return and can't think of a more lovely spot to spend a long weekend.
