“Poor Hotel”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2012

We didn't stay here but we did stay at the hotel over the road and did explore the Didim Beach resort. We were advised by other holiday makers (from that hotel) and out Rep that this Hotel was very poor and one of the most complained about Hotels in Northern Turkey for Thomson. Many holiday Makers from UK were transferred to our Hotel (which was rubbish - see separate review - Garden of Sun) because of the food at this hotel. Apparently complains of poor quality build etc. Whe we walked around it we liked the size of the pools and the terraces looked really nice. Obviously we didn't see the rooms but stories we heard about Food was enough to put us off as we were considering changing hotel as ours was so bad!

PICTURES ARE DECIEVING, READ ALL REVIEWS BEFORE BOOKING !!!!!!!!!
Me and my girlfriend arrived at Didim beach on 22nd June for 10 nights and found ourselves put in the elegance building. At 4 in the morning our first rooms' air con didnt work and within 5/10 minutes someone was up to fix it, however he couldnt and we moved to another room within the elegance building which did not meet our pre booked requirements of sea view. The next day reception moved us to the main building and gave us a choice of rooms that suited us which was very good of them however after 1 night and a morning we already has already 3 rooms (not a pleasing start). Moving on, the hotel and elegance building are very nice, the reps are very eager to try and get everyone involved in activites and workers within hotel such as massge people and photographers are constantly badgering on to get you on board but are very nice and photos are of good quality with a wide range of pictures to choose from (airbrush free). Restaurant is the major let down, food isnt always labelled, flies all over the salad bar and i found a maggot in my peach one night and nothing was offered to me as an apology. I would strongly reccomend people not to travel to this hotel but if they do ensure you take enough money to eat out everynight !! There is a fantastic bar right next to the hotel called 'Mojitos' which is run by an english couple with truely and honestly, absolutely fantastic bar staff. The bar has a big screen outside with lovely seating aswell as indoor flat screens, pool table & ps2. Cocktails are 15 lira and local beer (efes) is 6 lira, strongbow etc is 8 lira (VALUE FOR MONEY) they also serve food which we didnt try purely because we thought we paid all inclusive price we might aswell get our moneys worth even though the food is disgraceful and disgusting. If i visit Altinkum again i am 1 billion percent going to this bar as it really is as good as it sounds.

Room Tip: Try and arrange a room on level 3 or higher with room numbers ranging from 440-455 on level 4 for ex...

On arriving at the didim beach, even in the middle of the night, it looked stunning. There was 3 adults and 1 child (aged 10) in our party. How wrong could i have been. In our room there was stains on the walls, sockets hanging out of the walls, air con not working, the bedroom window's glass was loose and rattled all through the night, just to name a few faults. We did report these maintenance issues over and over again without them ever getting fixed. even around the pool there was issues, there was even a pool light left at the side of the pool all day with wires going into the water.

We heard a few people moaning about the food when we arrived but to begin with, we always found something to eat, albeit it always being cold or look warm at best. After a few days 3 of our party had a stomach upset, they could barely eat or drink anything, but they were having to run too the toilet. Needless to say we ate out the remainder of the holiday. We spoke to a man who's son had to go to the clinic and get put on a drip for 6 hrs. He informed us that 7 kids that week had been took in. The hotel did replace 17 senior staff though, inc the executive chef which i heard did make a slight improvement.

The hotel did also double their entertainment staff, which didn't really make much of a difference, it was the same thing every day, Daytime: dancing around the pool at 10am, diving for spoons just after (which the kids were not allowed to participate in), darts and table tennis. Evening: Kids disco at 9 till half 10 then the entertainment team having a carry on on the stage. not really 5 star quality.

We had booked up through the rep to go a trip to the midnight market, what a farce that was, the tour guy ended up arguing with a wee dolmus bus driver before we had even left, i think every dolmus driver in the area turned up, then there was about 5 police cars, The trip ended up being cancelled after we had been standing about for over an hour. The rep said everything would be alright the following week and he'd be there to make sure, so we just deferred till then, guess what, the following week he was nowhere to be seen. It was not worth it anyway, a waste of a night.

This hotel would be amazing if they just sorted the maintenance issues, the food and the entertainment out. It has huge grounds, right on the beach and friendly staff. Hopefully if thomas cook gets enough complaints they will get something done about it.

Defo wouldn't go back though, i was totally bored......

Room Tip: Our room was not on the pool side, which you would think would be quieter, nope, the hotel over the...

Worst holiday i've ever had!! Don't waste your money!
Four hour wait for our room on arrival.
Room was filthy dirty - dirty floors, dead insects under the bed, mould around the bath, lime scale all over the taps, poor maid service, I could go on.
Cold water for showering or no running water at all.
Mini fridge, pointless as would turn off when you left the room therefore remained at room temperature.
Dolphin Pool was disgustingly dirty, son had ear infection - avoid if you value your health.
Food - wouldn't even feed it to my dog.
Broken and dirty glasses from bar. The beer was watered down and flat.
Staff attitudes abysmal - uncooperative and unhelpful.
Beware if you book a late check out the hotel will still try and make you vacate your room even though you've paid for it.
A la carte restaurant a joke, my 3 year old wasn't fed. Upon complaining they gave him cake but no main meal.
Holiday Rep was like Lord Lucan, elusive to the extreme!
IF YOU'VE STAYED IN THIS HOTEL AND PLACED A COMPLAINT WITH THE HOLIDAY REP MAKE SURE YOU CHASE THIS UP AS THOMAS COOK HAS NO RECORD OF OUR 2 COMPLAINTS.
This hotel is far below the standard of a 4 star hotel as advertised, would not return to this hotel even if it was free. Thomas Cook, more like Thomas Crook, avoid this hotel like the plague.

Room Tip: Dont book this hotel!

we arrived at didm beach 11.6 2012 for 2 weeks, when we arrived we were put in the elegance building which was lovley. ROOMS were ok as we were put in a family room on the 7th floor and the balcony was lovley and big, only bad thing was when we arrived we had to wait 4 hours for a cot as we had a baby and after travelling all night we were all tired. POOLS were nice but there was a number of children who caught ear infections from the water like my 9 year old son, they were,nt cleaning the pools enough and there was also cases of conjunctivitis. FOOD was terrible it were.nt cooked properly there was 9 cases of food poisioning where a little girl had to be put on a drip, we ate out every day and night the food was that bad. OVERALL we had a good holiday turkey is a lovley place but definetly wouldnt go back to this hotel because the food has put us right of it was disgusting.
