“Interesting place to stay...and great birds!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 March 2014

We chose this B&B because we wanted to see the birds and were not disappointed. The old farmhouse itself is quaint and interesting...and yet very comfortable. The afternoon tea was very nice upon arrival, and the breakfast was very good. The main interest, however, is the birds...it is good to see a staff so devoted to the care of these beautiful creatures, and the young man doing the training and the 'show' was excellent with the birds and seemed to have a real love for what he is doing. West Lynch Farm is in a very convenient location to explore the extremely charming area, too...Allerford is such a picturesque village, and Porlock and Porlock Weir are well worth a visit. The B&B room we had was spacious and very comfortable.

Sometimes a hurried last minute booking can be a disaster. Sometimes, like this one, it can throw up a hidden gem. OK, maybe it was only hidden to me, but please do not let it be hidden to you. sadly, I had to work and could not spend as much time as I wanted soaking up the almost tangible calm. The greeting was friendly and informal. The Macaws perched by the path making you instantly at home. The room, one of two, comfortable. The breakfast, filling and freshly cooked
I suspect it is an ideal base to explore Exmoor. There are many stunning National Parks in Britain, but if you wish to enjoy The Path Less Trodden, I can heartily recommend this. From its glittering coast to the top of its hills, you will be made most welcome.

We found the paths which consisted of rough uneven stones very hard going. It was difficult to push the pushchair, as was the party in front of us trying to push a wheelchair, my elderly mother who walks with a stick found it hard to balance over the uneven surface. The owls themselves were lovely but not enough of them and the owl display became uninteresting, it became repetitive flying bit by bit 15 - 20 times, sometimes refusing to fly at all. The falconer had to walk across the yard each time he needed a owl, leaving a good 5 minute gap between, we were left sitting looking at each other, the children becoming fidgety and bored. There was little interaction with the audience. Outside the horses were beautiful and friendly but strewn across the yard were the horses blankets, i guess drying but not exactly the correct place something else to manoeuvre round. We had the same problem with the long unkept grass in front of the owl cages, it was such a same because the setting was beautiful and sitting having lunch in the tea garden was lovely, even though the staff could have been friendly and helpful. Asking to buy two pots of chutney when only one was on display was such an inconvenience.

My partner and I visited recently. We really enjoyed our visit especially the talk about the various birds of prey and seeing them flying. The staff were very friendly and the animals and birds were just lovely. Well worth a visit!

We arrived just in time for most of the owl display in the barn and found it most interesting with the owls landing almost in your lap. The falconer was knowledgeable and easy to listen to.

We just got home from our trip to the UK and I have to say my favorite place was Xmoor and Lynch farm. Cathy the owner is wonderful and the farm is well run and very clean. We rode horses on the moors with Cathy, she took us on a great ride. What spectacular views. Flying the owls was a very exciting experiance. It is a bit out of the way but well worth the effort.
