“Sublime... A Very Special Place”
Reviewed 25 September 2013

We have just had a faultless stay at the most most wonderful small country house hotel. Cooking of the highest order with ingredients from local organic suppliers and charming wine list. Breakfasts with home made preserves, homebaked breads, freshly pressed apple juice and smoked haddock and eggs. Nothing was too much trouble and Frida our little dog was treated like a princess. This is a boutique experience par excellence near Porlock in Somerset with scenery, walking and history all at your fingertips. It may seem a little expensive but the best always is and represents awesome value. What a find!! We will be back.
Try Cross lane for that special break and experience pampered luxury!!

Many thanks for your kind comments. We work hard to get the little things right such as the selection of homemade jams, breads and working with local, and where possible, organic suppliers and we are delighted that this was noted during your stay. We also recognise that Frida is also an important part of your stay and we are delighted that the break was enjoyed by all. The team very much look forward to welcoming you all back.

These guys have got it just right. A beautiful renovated home with the history of the building in the welcome pack which makes very interesting reading. Our welcome was warm and friendly we were shown into the lounge and served cake and tea which was delicious. We were then shown to our room and it was just divine. A stair case led us to the top floor and we had the whole of it, a large double room with lots of lovely touches around and we also had a single room. The bath room was luxurious with Cow shed toiletries and large white fluffy towels. Everything you could possibly need has been thought of. Andrew had a good local knowledge of the area and told us about places where we could go for a walk right on the doorstep so nice not to have to use the car.
We decided to dine and were so happy with our decision the food was out of this world a real 5* menu with impeccable service throughout the evening. It is open to non residents and it was full so obviously word has got around at how good it is.

We had a comfortable nights sleep and breakfast was once again first class. I cannot say enough about this place it must be one of the best we have stayed at and we have stayed in quite a few places over the years. Every little detail to make your stay special is there, and to top it off when we checked out Max gave us a little gift bag with sweets and bottled water for our onward journey such a lovely touch. We will definitely be back when we are in that part of the country again

Cross Lane House provides the most perfect place to stay in this beautiful part of the country. The accommodation is beautiful - a fabulous renovation of a medieval building - and very comfortable; the arrangements have been made tastefully and with great thought about making the guests as happy and comfortable as possible. And to top it all, the food was fantastic. Can't wait to visit again and spend more time there. Gay friendliness is a big plus.

My boyfriend and I live only round the corner from this lovely farmhouse and it is a disgrace that we have only just visited for Lunch, after a cycle round the hills we stopped in and sat outside so not to tarnish their beautiful interior.

The owners are simply lovely, make you feel right at home with their friendly attitude and service, they even showed us round their new shop which I'm sure my sister would go crazy over!!

For lunch we had Rump steak with homemade Chips and I had Italian chicken with mushroom sauce and beautiful creamed potatoes!! Yum Yum Yum.

However the 2 best things for me were Champagne by the glass and homemade Ketchup!! It was much better than heinz believe me!

We are looking to book in for an evening meal soon to sample their lovely restaurant, in more appropriate clothing next time!

Thank you for a wonderful lunch!!

From the moment we arrived, we could not have been made more welcome. The hotel is run by Andrew and Max, who make you feel like one of the family. Nothing is too much trouble for them, and by the time you leave, you will consider them your friends. There were the little touches that make all the difference: the pot of tea with a piece of lemon drizzle cake on arrival; the goody bag on departure with some water and sweets for the journey; the book of walks from the door of the hotel, put out for you when they saw your walking boots; the recommendation of an alternative restaurant on the night their own kitchen was closed. The hotel is on the edge of Exmoor, and perfect situated for those wanting to explore North-West Somerset and North Devon. Our room was very comfortable and had everything we wanted. Although the A39 is next to the hotel, traffic noise was not a problem. You are 1.5 miles from Porlock, 4.5 miles form Minehead and 11 miles from Lynton. So thank you to Andrew and Max for understanding what it means to be on holiday, and helping to make it special.

We stayed here in early July for our wedding anniversary. Such a beautiful hotel....the building itself is a picture postcard old building but lovingly restored. From the gorgeous bedroom
to the wonderful atmospheric dining room with beams and flagstone floors, this really was a great escape from our busy lives. We ate in both of our two nights and the food is superb and a credit to them. The service was friendly and attentive and our dog Tessa still misses Tom !
We had great weather and my favourite moment was just relaxing in the Linney outside, looking out over the wonderful cobbled courtyard and garden with a bottle of wine and simply relaxing..a real credit to all involved.

Having spent the one night here I wished we had booked longer. I cannot fault any aspect of our stay and is true testament to the good old fashioned service we both received during our stay. From the food at dinner to breakfast before we left everything was exemplary. The room was 5 star and the bed so comfortable I even contemplated skipping breakfast! Thanks again to the staff for all the effort and even a goody bag on leaving for the journey home.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent.
