REVIEW
I stayed at the Gisland Spa Hotel with my partner and two year old daughter in August 2008. We had had a day exploring the central area of Hadrian’s Wall and decided to leave booking accommodation to the last minute. Hadrian’s Wall Country (http://www.hadrianswallcountry.org/) provides a free ‘Where to Stay’ booklet and we’d seen the Gisland Spa’s website and hoped it would be free. Luckily they had a room and the efficient receptionist gave me driving directions.
We arrived at the same time as a coach of seniors so thought checking-in would be slow but the group was dealt with by dedicated staff waiting for them and I walked straight to the desk and collected the room key.

We arrived at the same time as a coach of seniors so thought checking-in would be slow but the group was dealt with by dedicated staff waiting for them and I walked straight to the desk and collected the room key.
All rooms have TV, tea & coffee facilities, hairdryers, but more importantly are clean. Really clean. Absolutely noteworthy clean. And we had a lovely view over the front of the hotel and the southern panorama.
Dinner was either from the carvery or from the menu and ordered at the bar. (We chose the menu as I’m vegetarian.) The restaurant was busy but tables are always reserved for residents.
We had an early start the next day (a drive to the Scotland Highlands) so the receptionist arranged for us to get an early breakfast (usually from 8.30am) and in the morning we had the dining room to ourselves. And even though the staffs were still in their pre-breakfast preparation time they cooked us a full English breakfast and brought fresh fruit salad for my daughter.
When we checked-out they were quick and efficient again and the bill for bed & breakfast, 3 evening meals, plus drinks was £100.
Even though the hotel seemed popular with seniors they were extremely accommodation to my young family. I couldn’t recommend the Gilsland Spa Hotel more highly.More
