we knew that this hotel will be close by Hadrians wall and knew from booking.com also the prices.
we arrived and the reception told us they can't give us the internetprice but we can use their Wifi to book it online. the rooms were very nice (also decorated), very very quiet and the breakfast (fully monty) was very good. the surrounding of the hotel (views) were brilliant.
the pub was very good as well - nice food!

Room Tip: doesn't matter - very quiet anyway

Food was excellent as was the room. Swing band entertainment first class, particularly the singer was outstanding. Service from staff excellent. Altogether very enjoyable short break. Travelled with G line coaches who were very well organised.

Just returned from the Gilsland Spa Hotel. Must agree we some of the Reviews that this hotel doesn't rate 4 stars the Hotel Inspector would have a field day. Rooms are outdated and want totally upgrading. Bathroom was disgusting- door wouldn't shut or lock, mould everywhere including ceiling over bath. Old fashioned taps that didn't work. Awful coloured suite with formica round basin. No proper lighting in bedroom, curtain for a wardrobe just like Butlins holiday camp thirty years ago. Furniture worn out, carpet disgusting. Lighting not good either. The tv in the bedroom was tiny and tv reception was dreadful, couldn't get any channels to stay on without losing signal. Member of staff said this was usual. Wifi advertised but could only get it in Reception area for short blasts. Forget the Entertainment unless you like old fashioned dancing and Bingo and you are over 70. Quite expected to be woken up with HI DI HI. Housekeeping hit and miss - some days towels were missing and had to go and find some, no glasses in room only plastic cups. On the plus side - plenty of hot water and food good and hot. Staff in the Restaurant were lovely. Hotel warm including bedroom. View was bedroom was a joy which is more than I can say about the room itself. The Galloway Bar was cosy with a lovely log fire. There is a beautiful conservatory but not open to us. Will not be returning.

We have just returned from a great 5 day break at the spa. From the start it was wonderful. We had a lovely room on the corner on the second floor with wonderful views. Lovely beds , lots of soft towels and not water. Not a sound was heard in the corridor so we had great nights sleep. The food at this hotel was as good as any we have had in this country, the staff were great and with free newspapers, tea and biscuits by a roaring log fire in the afternoons not a thing to complain about,I spoke to the manager before we left to compliment him on his hotel. Only one hour drive from newcastle we were delighted.

We have just come back from our first coach trip with Memory Lane coaches and we stayed at the Gilsland Hotel, arrival, check in, food, dancing entertainment and even two lovely walks, we had a wonderful time, only problem found the hotel to be very hot, people we spoke to had been coming for many years and I can see why. the staff were lovely and all local people, which is very nice to see a hotel giving work to the locals. its a very quiet hotel even New Years Eve,

Room Tip: , sorry no fitness centre

We stayed for a family wedding. The public areas are clean and tidy but the bedrooms are in need of some tlc. Our room was freezing and the hot water took ages to come through the tap in the bathroom. The light in the bedroom was inadequate for putting make up on. The meal and the staff however were great. The food was lovely and Barbara was fantastic. She really pulled out all the stops to make sure as I think i was the only vegetarian that my meal was ready and double checked my desserts.. with a lttle updating this could have it all.

I visited gilsland spa earlier in December as a Christmas work party and expected a nice night out. I certainly wasn't disappointed by what I got the area in which we had dinner was very nice with each table being as equally nice as the next and all well decorated and enough cutlery to last throughout the night. The meal itself was very nice and definitely worth the wait for when I got there as I don't usually eat late! But it definitely would attract me again. All the staff were friendly and the dj we had was very entertaining! Overall for a Christmas party gilsland spa was a very nice place to go and would be tempted to go back!
