“Beautiful home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 June 2013

About half an hour east of Carlisle this lovely home is yours to share for a night or two. We had 2 rooms for one night, a double and twin with friends. Both were beautiful rooms, the double ensuite the twin with own bathroom across landing. Lots of extra touches in room including tea and coffee in various 'flavours'.
A breakfast award is boasted by certificate on wall and it was very good. Another couple were staying over too and we all had a good chat exchanging travel tales. If there was one criticism - we found the breakfast area a little cramped between table and sideboard for everyone to get their cereal etc but all good quality food. Would suggest just bringing mixed toast to the table if full rather than trying to do to order - got a little confusing.
Location is rural although not quite as close to 'The Wall' (hadrians) as I thought it may be. Lovely countryside view.
Lovely large lounge to relax in, lined with books and dvds, cosy chairs, luxurious homliness

Our stay at The Hill on the Wall was perfect. Having thought about what can be improved I cannot think of a thing. We were warmly welcomed on arrival by Elaine who was helpful and informative. The whole accommodation was beautifully presented, with elegant furnishings. The room and en-suite were both good sizes, clean and had everything we could wish for. Many varieties of teas, coffee, bottled water, biscuits and a bar of chocolate, the bathroom had slippers, dressing gowns and a plentiful supply of toiletries. Breakfast was an array of cereals, fruit, yoghurt and we had the cooked breakfast, which was excellent. All in all, excellent accommodation with a lovely host, would definitely stay here again and recommend this to anyone.

Superb! Treat yourself and stay here, you won't be disappointed. This is a wonderfull bed and breakfast that pulls out all the stops so you have a delightfull stay. If you are doing the Hadrians Wall Path it provides a restfull oasis, one that you don't feel like leaving. I'll be returning in the near future.

Room Tip: It doesn't matter which room you get they are terrific.

My friend and I stayed two nights here while visiting Hadrian's Wall. We had a wonderfully spacious twin room with private bathroom across the hall, with both a bath and separate shower cubicle. The bathroom was also equipped with loads of huge towels and an enormous bathroom cabinet chock full of toiletries. There was a huge guest lounge, which we didn't need to use as our bedroom was spacious enough. Our hostess welcomed us with offers of tea and cake in the lounge both evenings and the breakfast was fantastic. I had smoked salmon and cream cheese on potato cakes the first day - utter heaven! Then the full English the second day was equally delicious. It is about a 10-15 minute walk to The Samson Inn, which had a great menu. I recommend staying here unreservedly!

What a brilliant find! I can't recommend HotW highly enough and would say it's incredible value for money. Lovely rooms, stunning views, the yummiest scrummiest breakfasts and extremely welcoming hosts. Cake and tea was on permanent flow and there was even a box of Maltesers in room so that's always going to score highly with me! I stayed with a friend and we were delighted when we arrived especially after a disappointing stay in a different place the eve before. Only downside is that we didn't have enough free time to enjoy the amenities more fully! I would definitely stay again.

Undoubtedly the best I have ever come across. The rooms can only be described as luxurious; the views are magnificent and the standard of service is six star! We were met with a tray of tea and home- made cakes which were delicious; then shown to a fabulous bedroom over looking the valley with a view of Hadrians Wall. Robes, slippers and chocolate were provided in the room, which, for me, was a first. Breakfast was more than enough to keep you going for the rest of the day. To cap it all, Elaine and Ian were the perfect hosts and went so far as to ring a local hotel to arrange an evening dinner reservation. Altogether a fantastic experience.

Room Tip: There are no bad ones.

As a night's stay on part of a Hadrian's Wall walk this place was so good I organised to come back the next night! Throughout the house were collections of fascinating objects and wall hangings. There was excellent attention to detail in my delightfully coordinated room (Livia's Lair). The bath was huge, the hot water never-ending with luxurious bubble bath to soak away the aches and pains of a weary walker's bod; a bathroom cabinet full of complimentary toiletries if you had forgotten anything of your own, and such a fantastic choice of teas, coffees, and hot chocolate drinks complete with biscuits and chocolate that I thought I'd landed in heaven! Both Elaine and Ian were really welcoming, friendly and a fount of knowledge about the local area. Homemade pastries and tea were served by the fire in the late afternoon. I couldn't have asked for more.

Room Tip: If you like a feminine touch, Livia's Lair is a lovely room.
