“An amazing stay to be had!”
Reviewed 26 September 2011

me and my husband stayed 3 nights to celebrate our first anniversary. The hospitality was second to none. Breakfast and dinner were amazing. Denise and Gerry are very welcoming and make you feel at home. We booked the trail walkers package and were dropped off and picked up and also were given excellent advice, hints and tips! We would recommend to anyone heading this way to stay here.

My husband and I stayed at Brookside for 5 nights at the end of August - using it as a base to explore Hadrians Wall - both on foot, by bus & by car.

This was our first experience of a B&B, which we approached with some trepidation, but we wanted to be within very easy walking distance of the Wall & there weren't any easily accessible hotels near-by that we wanted to stay at. However, our fears were quickly put to rest. The B&B is a self-contained unit (one half of 2 semi-detached houses, 1 for the B&B & 1 for Denise & her husband) & therefore felt like a small country hotel. The room was lovely with 6 foot bed (2 divans) & a huge shower. Towels were plentiful with body & foot lotion provided. Food was wonderful - I am a very picky vegetarian, but Denise had a different varied menu every evening. Service was really good.

Brookside is very well positioned for the wall - about a 10 minute walk and we felt this was one of the prettiest stretches of the wall that we saw - we walked to Birdsoswald every day to catch the bus & returned there in the evening to walk back (out of choice, the bus runs through Gilsland & on return will drop you right outside Brookside if requested)

We would certainly recommend Brookside.

We stayed here for just one night whilst walking Hadrians wall .Had we known previously of the high standards of Brookside Villa I am certain we would have stayed longer.
By arrangement with the proprietor Denise we were picked up at the village of Banks in a cold, wet and very muddy state after an extremely arduous days walking.
Upon arrival at the B&B we were soon warm, comfortable and content.
Our room was spotlessly clean well equipped and the en suite bathroom had a superb refreshing power shower
The evening meal prepared and served by Denise was of top quality and without doubt the best meal we had during our week walking the wall.
After a perfect nights sleep we had a perfect breakfast following which Denise drove us back to the village of Banks to continue our walk, totally refreshed, dry and ready for our next section of walk.
B&B can not get better than this - I will certainly recommend this establishment to my friends and family.

We stayed here one night at the beginning of our Hadrian's Wall holiday and were so impressed. This B&B is superb and Denise is a lovely lady. Our room was smart, clean and very comfortable, and the food was exceptionally good. Denise is certainly a hard act to follow - none of the other B&Bs on our holiday matched up to this one! We felt utterly spoilt here and would recommend Brookside Villa to anyone.

My sister and i stayed three nights with Denise and her exellent team, they set us up daily with a fine breakfast and packed lunch. when we were ready to continue our Hadrians wall walk Denise or Gerry would drop us were we had finished the previous day.
To return in the evening for one of Denises wonderful dinners made our walking trip very special indeed. I would fully recommend to anyone a stay at Brookside Villa, but please dont take all the rooms 'cause i would love to return.

We stayed here for a night when walking along Hadrian's Wall. It was just what we were after - friendly but professional, very comfortable, well-located. A welcome haven at the end of a long day, and we really appreciated the delicious light supper that was rustled up for us after we missed dinner when our walk took longer than we thought. Delightful - highly recommended.

We stayed here for 3 nights and it really is a beautiful B & B. Denise, the host is the perfect balance of friendly & helpful, yet super-professional. She is a superb cook and there is a delicious range for breakfasts. She also cooks dinners if you choose and the menu changes nightly. We found her cooking to be much nicer than any of the local pubs! The room was clean, luxurious and comfortable. We had a really lovely time and other B & B's we have stayed at since have just not compared to this one. Would highly recommend and would stay here again any day.
