“Definitely the best two nights of our holiday walking The Wall.”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

We just wanted to thank you for our recent stay at Brookside Villa. You have certainly earned your 'Walkers Welcome' award. We arrived very wet and tired having walked 20 miles, the latter part in pouring rain. We appreciated the warm welcome and encouragement to come in and take our wet things off, rather than do that on the doorstep which we would normally do. Our room was beautifully decorated (you clearly have good taste in colour and furnishings) and the good sized bathroom with lashings of hot water was just what we needed. We arrived too late to order a meal for our first night, but ate in on our second night. You are a great cook and the food, whether at breakfast or for the evening meal was superb - better than many restaurants and definitely the best on The Wall. Thank you for not minding when we rearranged your dining room on our second night so we could enjoy our meal socially with the two other couples who were also staying at Brookside Villa. The social aspect of shared experiences and talking together in the lounge after the meal really added to our holiday experience

Arrived after a hard days walk and appreciated the range of drinks on offer. Were presented with a series of tick sheets where we were to select dinner, breakfast and packed lunch options. Filled these in and submitted them to Denise who proceeded with the catering which was all very tasty. The rooms were well appointed and the shower was lovely, thought had gone into the appearance and furnishings of the room though the telly, if one had wanted to watch it, was titchy.

Many thanks for taking the time to review. We use selection menus for breakfast and packed lunches so that you can choose exactly what you want, which most of guests prefer to being served, as one guest put it "what the other B&Bs want to give us, rather than what WE want!" I don't have the same process for dinner though - I do take your order personally so that I can discuss your meal and ensure that everything is freshly cooked exactly as you like it. We do try to run the place efficiently, and put a lot of thought into how things come together and work well - again most of our guests want to be up and out fairly smartly in the mornings to continue their walk or cycle, so we do our best to help folks achieve that. Sorry you find a 20" TV a little small, again we've found that most people just want a quick news or weather update - but we'll consider that next time we refurbish. I'd be very interested to hear from you personally about the service rating - but I don't have your name in our reservation diary - perhaps you booked under your friends name?

This is a wonderful B&B, everything is of a far higher standard than most hotels I've stayed in! Denise has a real eye for detail, the decor is attractive, the rooms comfortable, the plumbing efficient and the welcome warm. In addition, lots of little extras are available to make your stay truly comfortable. As an added bonus, Denise is an accomplished cook and provided us with the best evening meal that we had while walking the Wall, and followed it up with a hearty breakfast the next morning to send us on our way.

We arrived soaked, and Denise handled all the arrangements perfectly. Our room was at the top of the house - getting a big case up was a touch tricky - and was extremely comfortable and pleasant. Great for a couple. Our daughter's room on the floor below was also very comfortable.

The sitting room with honesty bar was very pleasant, but perhaps the highlight was dinner produced by Denise. An excellent meal, with good range of choices. I can recommend the lamb.

Overall, an excellent B & B, which rounded off our walk perfectly.

Room Tip: The top attic room is perfect for a couple.

After a very wet and long walk along the mid-section of Hadrian's Wall, this B&B welcomed two bedraggled and exhausted sisters with open arms. Our wet clothes were whisked away to be dried. Newspaper was provided to stuff our sodden boots and a bowl of salt water and packets of compeed provided for our blistered feet. The well-stocked honesty bar was just what the doctor ordered and the food was delicious. The room was stylish, well-equipped and comfortable. This is how a B&B should be.

You are very welcome - as walkers ourselves, we do understand what you need at the end of a long, wet day - and a hot, dry day too! Glad we were able to turn it around for you and that your next day's walk was a little more comfortable. Thanks and best wishes to you both Denise and Gerry

Not much to add to the positive comments. Lovely room no 3 at the top of the house is recommended as a double. House very clean and well maintained with a lovely garden. Parking is a bit tight but ok. Food excellent, more like good home cooking than flashy restaurant. Lamb is recommended. Breakfasts also good. Denise is an attentive and straightforward host. I hope my donated (forgotten) umbrellas come into good use! We will be back

Thanks for tasking the time to review Simon. And sorry about your umbrellas! Wondered who had left them in the hall. They'll hopefully still be here should you return - or I can post them back if you'd like? Had no use for them until yesterday, as sunny weather returned. Best wishes. Denise and Gerry

I cannot fault this place. The lady is very nice and runs everything like a military operation. Precise spotlessly clean. Nice firm beds and the breakfasts are excellent (all local produce - which was a bonus) I can recommend the sausages. We stayed here for two nights on our way back to London after 2 weeks in Scotland. Thank you for an excellent experience.
