“Not a £90 a night B&B in the Winter months”
Reviewed 30 November 2009

This B&B is overpriced @ £90 per during the winter, we did get a 25% discount for staying thee nights on a Weekday . Rooms are small & four posters not as idyllic as others describe. There are building works going on @ the adjacent proprtey & we had a problems with the TV which was replaced. Breakfasts are adequate, but had no orange juice on first day. However Alison the owner try's very hard & her expertise with the surrounding garden is second to none. Most probably best visited in the summer.

Wonderful location, thoughtful hosts who have supplied so many extra touches to make your stay even more enjoyable. The breakfasts are superb.
Will definitely stay again next time I am in the area.
Top marks!

We recently stayed at the self-catering cottage at Gants Mill for a week, and we loved every minute of it. It is a charming cottage, situated right over the mill stream, on a site with lovely gardens and idyllic countryside around it. The cottage is simply but nicely furnished, with a double bedroom downstairs and two twin bedrooms upstairs. Our family has two teenagers, so it was perfect for us. Families with small children might not like having the bedrooms on different floors, but for anyone with else it's great.

The main room downstairs is a combined living/dining area, with the kitchen along one end of it. There is a dishwasher, as well as all the other standard amenities (stove, microwave, electric kettle, refrigerator, etc.) There is a central yard just outside the door of the cottage, and there is a shared laundry room in the yard. They urge you to hang the laundry out to save energy, but there is a dryer available.

One can walk on a public footpath along the stream to the town of Bruton in about 10 minutes, and there are several shops and pubs in the town. We used the cottage as a base and explored all over Somerset for a week, going to Bath, Wells, Exmoor, Lyme Regis, and lots of other places, but we did spend one day just relaxing and exploring Bruton, and that was great fun. Gants Mill has sheep and cats and a nice dog, and we got a tour of the mill, which has been converted so that it produces electricity for the farm.

We did not see the bed & breakfast rooms which are provided in the main house, but our hosts, Brian and Allison, seemed very pleasant and the whole place seemed nicely kept. The garden, maintained by Allison, is really beautiful.

We really enjoyed our stay at Gants Mill, and we were sad to leave. It isn't particularly fancy, and the furniture in the living room was well past new, but it was all comfortable and clean, and the site was so lovely. Coming over from the U.S. we wanted a relaxing week in the English countryside, and this more than fulfilled our hopes.
