Nice to look at. Solid feel. Access to top end of Blackwood a lot easier than previously. Nothing to dislike.

“Big bridge”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 March 2014 via mobile

It's a big suspension bridge spanning the valley. Looks impressive and out of place in such a small town. The statue on the one side is quite cool.

“Shades of Alexander Cordell (Rape of the fair country)”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 November 2013

Named after the chartist movement which led to the Newport rising in 1839 With such honoured names as John Frost,Zephaniah williams and many others this Arup designed bridge was built in 2oo5, ahead of schedule.
It links the towns of Blackwood and Oakdale and spans the sirhowy river. The cablestayed bridge is 230 metres long and 30 metres from the valley floor totally breathtaking in design, pleasing in appearance it blends superbly with the surrounding countryside. As previously statedthe historical link with the chartist movement, most of the protestors started thier journey to Casnewydd from y coed duon were from the the surrounding areas, details of which can be found in the book by the author naned in the reviews title.
