At first it was scary as you literally have about 60 stingrays floating around you but once you get used to it it's a beautiful experience! Even plucked up the courage to hold a big female! Def worth it!

“A great experience”
Reviewed 11 July 2012

We are a family of four (children aged 20 and 17) and we visited Antigua for 10 days in June 2012. In the second week of our holiday we booked a trip to Stingray City through our resort (The Verandah Resort) and paid $50 per person. We had to walk to the nearby beach (outside the resort) and were collected in a boat. There were approximately 15 people in the boat on our trip. After a scenic boat ride around the coastline you arrive at a floating pontoon area, near a shallow area of reef where the stingrays are fed. After a brief safety demonstration (don't step on the stingrays etc) we were given snorkels and masks and got into the water. Swimming with the stingrays is an incredible experience, they are bigger than we had thought and were very friendly. The Stingray City employees leading the tour were very good at getting people to hold the rays and offered people the chance to feed and stroke them. The location at the reef is also a prime area for snorkelling - loads of colourful fish and barracuda to see. After about an hour we got out of the water and were taken by boat to Stingray City's land base - a few buildings where the trip became somewhat less enjoyable. Here animals are kept in cages that look slightly too small (monkeys, parrots, iguanas) and we were made to wait in the blazing heat whilst given the opportunity to purchase photographs that had been taken on the trip and other merchandise. We felt this part of the trip was unnecessary. Overall we enjoyed the morning seeing the stingrays and would definitely recommend it. Some reviews indicate an element of danger to this trip and of course it pays to be aware but we did not notice any real threatening danger of being in the water with the stingrays, and on our trip there were two babies of no more than 18 months old who were able to go in the water. One recommendation - the trips to stingray city leave at 9am, 11am and 1pm - we took the 9am trip and would advise this as it is a long time in the sun and in the midday heat it would be unbearable.

“Experience of a lifetime”
Reviewed 6 July 2012

Took my 10 year old daughter here and she loved it. After a short speedboat ride out in the ocean, which I will say was a bit hair raising we arrived at a floating platform where you get off the boat and into the sea. We were a bit apprehensive at first but it didn't take long to get into the swing of it and its an experience that we wont forget. They were lovely gentle creatures.
