My husband and I travelled as a couple to Hawksbill in May after a gap of five years. We visited originally at Christmas in 2005/6/7 but decided to try it again at a different time. We were delighted that after such a gap in visiting they gave us the room we requested, a beachclub room on honeymoon cove, and they had left us a Welcome back card and a bottle of Champagne. Brenda the housekeeper is still doing a great job and we must have had clean towels and sheets every other day. Nothing was too much trouble. Fresh flowers in the room always clean and tidy. That said we feel a bit sorry for her that she has to work on rooms that seriously need upgrading. We are not looking for these rooms to become plastic like so many hotels, that is not what Hawsbill is all about, but some decent showers and a lick of paint would not go amiss!
The lease wrangle is still going on after all these years with no signs of improvement. The new Manager is very friendly and has his ideas on what he wants to see happen but without investment it will be difficult. The grounds are immaculate and just beautiful. The views from our room are to die for, opening the louvre doors each morning and just looking out to Hawksbill rock straight across the Atlantic is as good as it gets!
It was very quiet when we stayed with hardly more than fourty couples. No entertainment in the evenings, as there is at Christmas, but just relaxing in the evening with great views suits us. The resort is idylic, it looks just like a clearing on a beach surrounded by forest. it is very special but if you want lots to do then stay away!
The beaches are again very quiet and peaceful and Eden beach, the clothing optional beach, had no more than five couples on it. If you want to try sunbathing without swimwear and not have nasty wet bathers, then it doesn't get any easier to try it. However, the beach towels that the hotel gives you are dreadful. They would have been thrown away by me years ago! They used to have lovely soft blue and pink ones but obviously long gone and the ones they now have are threadbare. Please replace them!
Food and drink all ok. Not a great choice in the evenings but then we don't really go for the food! It is all about having a great holiday that provides a beautiful and peaceful setting, lots of relaxation and getting a great tan. There were the occasional tropical showers but soon over and without these you wouldn't have such lovely lawns and flowers.
We would definitely recommend Hawksbill but only if you don't seek lots of things to do and just need to recharge your batteries. We have booked again for next year!
