This was our 3rd year in a row to this Sandals resort. We love the all-inclusive and adults only atmosphere. We've also been to ones in Jamaica and St. Lucia. We keep going back because it quickly became our favorite. It is a pleasure to be picked up at the airport for a short drive to the resort, check in, go to the room and not worry about a thing for a week. We stay in a Mediteranean Village-Consierge level room. It is spacious, modern and clean with a full bar and flat screen TV. It's quiet with a beautiful view of the ocean if you stay aboue the 3rd floor. The grounds are perfectly maintained and lush. The spa is amazing! I had a hot stone massage that was pure bliss! The pools are fabulous. You can find a small quiet one or a large lively one, depending on your preferance. The beach is perfect. You can be as busy or as active as you want to be. For us, a week of relaxation and quiet is what we want, and we get it here 100%. Can't wait to return in 2014!

Room Tip: The Mediterranean Village has the new rooms and higher floors have a beautiful view of the grounds a...

We travelled to Sandals Grande Antigua Resort & Spa on the 2nd Jan 2013 what a great way to start the year we thought but seriously had no idea HOW great it would actually be!

After a long flight we had booked a private transfer which met us at the sandals stand at the airport. A quick and easy trip to the resort with a lovely taxi driver. On arrival at Sandals our luggage was sorted, we were handed a cool towel and then escorted to the concierge office. So far so good, then a glass of champagne each could this get any better?! :) we were taken to our room by one of the ladies from the red lane spa (sadly we did not write down her name!) she showed us our room and made us feel right at home! She was also one of the ladies who gave us our couples massage which was awesome. Throughout our stay she greeted us and remembered our names.

Our room was on the Caribbean side in the Frangipani building and was just perfect with a view out onto the sea. We spent the next 13 days in paradise! The room was clean well equipped and kept this way throughout our stay. A fully stocked bar which you can really take advantage of in an all inclusive resort!!

We spent most of our days at the main pool in the Mediterranean village if you make the effort to get there early you get a good spot but if you don't then you may not! We made the effort! Cocktails serve from the excellent staff at the pool bar or from the very friendly and attentive waitresses who looked after you whist you sunbathed! The cocktails were fab our favourites were the reggae top, chocolate monkey, crazy monkey to name a few!! ;) the beach is on your doorstep so walking along there each day really was paradise.

The food was fabulous, Mario's, Eleanor's, OK Corral, Bayside and Barefoot the Cricketer's was a bit too like home (UK) so we didn't go there! Only to play pool of course. We ate at all twice and couldn't fault them or the staff. Each morning we ate at the Bayside restaurant and we always met with happy smiley faces it was great. Lunch times were just as good the courtyard bistro served the best burgers we've ever had! They had so many options as well; chicken sandwich, wraps, salad, pasta and nachos. The other days we had pizza from the pizzeria which was amazing! For those with a sweet tooth a visit to the cafe de Paris is a must cupcakes, waffles, cookies and lovely coffees!

We did venture out of our sandals bubble for an excursion The Island Safari Eco Tour (Island routes) where you went on a trip around the island in an open land rover our driver Foster was brilliant stopping to tell us about the island and even picking fresh guavas from the tree for us to try! This was followed by lunch at Betty's Hope really lovely food which seemed to be provided by friends or family of the drivers which we thought was a lovely touch. We then went onto kayaking through the mangroves our guide was Nicholas who again was great. He told us a lot of information and made it fun too! Picking up sea cucumbers for us to hold and showing us upside down jelly fish! Then we went to bird island for our snorkelling, we were two of last to get back on the boat - having too much fun! Then off the boat for some good old rum punch!! The only downfall to this day was the rain but as our guides said "It's not rain, it's liquid sunshine!" So this didn't dampen our spirits at all. We also took advantage of the shopping trip to St John's which is great you are dropped in town for 2.5 hrs for good old souvenir shopping, but the driver doesn't just pick you up and drop you off he told us the best places to go and little bits of history along the way.

During our stay at Sandals we met many of the staff and didn't come across anyone who wasn't ready to help us or just wanted to say hello. We took full advantage of the photoshop guys who kindly take your photo when we you're in the pool, at the bar or in the restaurants. Because when you are on holiday just the two of you you don't often get the chance for many pictures that have both of you in! We also had the complimentary photo shoot which is advised for sunset and really is worth it! Our photographer was Omega and he did a great job! We met one of the supervisors from the photoshop at the martini and chocolates night called Stewart. We became friends during our stay he was very helpful and so friendly that we are still in touch now we're home! All the guys in the photoshop were great I'm sorry we don't have all their names, also the girls in the shop who helped us choose our 80 photos!

Each night there was something going on we enjoyed the beach party on the Monday night especially watching the fire eater!! The managers cocktail party, martini and chocolate night, Antigua and Barbuda day to name a few. The playmakers were always around to make your stay more fun, even if you didn't want to join in! In the Lobby there was a guy painting beautiful scenes of the island and beach we purchased one so we can look at paradise every day :) he also was very friendly.

This holiday was expected to be amazing but when we were there it exceeded everything we could've imagined, the facilities, the staff, the food and drink everything was perfect! We want to thank all the staff a Sandals Grande Antigua for making our stay so special and making it SO hard to leave. Honeymoons are supposed to be special but this was out of this world, we WILL be back...one day!

For the money I have visited at least 18 other all inclusives and got more for my money. The concierge building offers no private lounge nor room service, there is a charge for the internet.Save your money and try the many other all inclusives that really try hard to please the v acationer.

We just returned from a vacation at Sandals Grande Antigua. We were extremely disappointed in the service at this "Luxury" resort. While it is convenient to have an all-inclusive stay, with their no tipping policy, we found service to be very poor as excellent service was not rewarded. It would have been nice to at least get a returned smile and a hello rather than feeling like you were inconveniencing staff when you asked for something.

We stayed in a Portofino Walkout suite (concierge) in the Mediterranean side. The suite was nice, but absolutely not as expected from the photos on the website. The balcony could barely fit the 2 chairs that were placed on it.

One of our keys did not work and after getting a replacement several times (and still not have it work), we deiced to just share the one key. Their first response at the desk when we told them our key did not work was "you must have got it wet".

The resort was beautifully maintained and the Mediterranean pool was beautiful. The beach was very nice, but much smaller than we had expected. It was a public beach, as you walked onto the beach, you passed signs that said "You are leaving Sandals property". There were some vendors, but we found them to be fine if you told them you were not interested.

The food was fine, not over-the-top great, but decent. We found it interesting that on several nights we would go to a restaurant and ask to be seated and they would say there was a 30-45 minute wait when we could see that at least 1/2 the tables were completely empty.

The resort was at capacity, but never felt too crowded.

Several months ago, we travelled with our family to Beaches Turks & Caicos (Beaches is the same company as Sandals). We had similar experiences there with poor service. I do not feel our expectations are unreasonable, considering the cost of a Sandals vacation.

No more Beaches or Sandals resorts for us.

We went to this resort for our honeymoon based on the reviews. It was the first all inclusive resort we have ever been to, so we cannot compare this experience to any other we’ve had. We booked the concierge room and it was definitely worth it. It was great having a fully stocked bar. The liquor was definitely nothing to write home about and neither was the wine, but the beer (Wadadli) was really good! We chose an all inclusive resort because we wanted to be able to do things at our leisure. We were tired of planning! When we got to the resort, we discovered that three of the restaurants required reservations for dinner and they were already booked up for the whole week. The all inclusive water sports required reservations as well and were already booked up along with most of the outside excursions. We were disappointed in the quality of food and were hoping for better seafood options. Be prepared for outside vendors to approach you every 5 minutes on the beach! They won’t leave you alone after the first “no thank you,” and they even ask you if you’ll get them a drink from the bar. We did get to enjoy taking the excursion to Stingray City and we had a great time touring the whole island. We wanted to choose a well known resort company for our first Caribbean experience, but we definitely do not see ourselves going back to this resort or probably any other Sandals resort for that matter. For that amount of money, we want more than just an average experience.

We stayed at Sandals Antigua in October for 11 nights. We had a great time but a few things would have improved it even more. The room was fine but not as special as hoped for the money paid. The bathroom was old and needed updating. The toilet broke twice and repair was not instant. The maid who cleaned had her own timetable so you could never guarantee when your room would be ready-sometimes as late as 5pm-often not till about 3-far too late to enjoy your room properly. Anything mentioned to the concierge was never sorted until it was mentioned twice or was too late. However, I really enjoyed the food-Bayside was great-we went back often and even desserts were good [whereas some places choose uninspiring desserts and disappoint]-the chocolate mousses were gorgeous- as was the hot chocolate. Staff here were lovely.Eleanor's was very enjoyable as was Mario's and the manager of these was manager of both restaurants who always made an effort to talk to customers.
Steakhouse was ok but not special. Kimono's was a gd one-off experience and our chef made it very amusing. The waitress glared most of the time...The restaurant on the beach was fine for lunch but dinner was not exciting. Overall, expected more of Sandals for the money but still loved our time there as we had sun, sea, padded beds to lie on by the sea, lovely pool by our room, cocktails in the large pool [and Antigua itself was lovely]. Will look for other hotels first for value for money before returning to Sandals.

Room Tip: We had a garden suite-lovely and quiet but I think I'd like an ocean view next. Pool lovely and...

We spent 7 divine days at Sandals Grande Antigua for my girlfriend's wedding in 2010. It was absolutely the vacation of a lifetime and worth every single penny! Everyone on staff was awesome and they make you feel wonderful. The food was delicious, the drinks phenominal and the activities were so much fun. We can't wait to go back again! You have customer service down to a science:)
