“Resort that grows on you throughout stay. Something for everyone”

A bit of a wait to check in and a little disappointing first meal in Marios. However we were asked for feedback by one of the senior Management team, Gus, who made it his personal mission to ensure that we enjoyed our stay and found us most nights to ensure we were happy. The food did get much better and there is a good choice of restaurants. We stayed on the Carrabean side and enjoyed relaxing and swimming in one of the quiter pool areas, but if you want to party by the pool bar then the large pool area on the med side was where the younger party people hung out. There is just a great relaxing feel about the whole complex. The staff were all really friendly especially our main man Gus, the consummate professional and a shout out to our lovely cleaner (room 619 last 2 weeks of May and the querky but genuinely lovely barmaid in the piano bar. Highly recommend the trip round island and stingray visit on the extreme speedboat. Evening entertainment was also the best I have experienced on a resort holiday which was an added bonus. Great holiday :)

We traveled here on our honeymoon, it was our first experience going to a Sandals (or any all inclusive resort).

As soon as you arrive at the resort, you are in paradise! You are greeted with cool towels as you sit and wait for the check-in process. (One recommendation would be to arrive/depart on an off day, like a Wednesday, where the number of people arriving at the same time as you might be less.)

Our room was just as described online. We had a room in sunset bluff with a walk out to the pool. We spent only about an hour a day at this pool, as it was very calm, quiet, and kind of boring after a while. The other pools were beautiful. We particularly liked the smaller pool with the swim up bar, as it was less crowded and a more friendly crowd.

We enjoyed sitting by the fire pits, in the hammock, and relaxing outside of the small coffee shop they have on the resort.

We went on the island safari tour (where you do the land rover all day). It was fun and very informative. It dropped you off at some of the landmarks for about 15 minutes, which is really all you need there. Quite frankly, once you get there and take a few pictures, there wasn't much else to do.

We also did the shopping trip into town. We had heard some negative reviews on this - however, we kind of went off from the touristy area and found some great souvenirs, jerk seasoning and amazing coffee. We also bought some music from a guy who was just playing CDs on the streets. It was quite a different experience than what the other people we met were saying.

We did the candle light dinner on the beach. One thing to point out here - you will not be the only couple on the beach. It's not quite as private of a dinner as I was expecting from the pictures. We were one of about 6 tables set up within ear shot of each other. However, the view was great, food was amazing and service was excellent.

We enjoyed eating at all of the restaurants, except OK Coral. We enjoyed dinner at Eleanor's and the salad bar at Marios the most. We tend to be a little bit of food snobs (we cook a lot on our own) therefore we thought the food was good, but not this is the best meal you'll ever eat good. We would have liked to have seen some more Caribbean style food as well.

Overall we had a great honeymoon! The sun was awesome, beach was great, drinks were cold and delicious, the food never stopped and the staff at the resort was some of the nicest people I think you'll ever meet.

It was a very well run, clean, well manicured resort. We would recommend any of our friends and family to check it out.

It's wonderful that you enjoyed all that our resort has to offer and also explored a bit of this beautiful island. We can't wait to welcome you back for another stellar vacation in the near future.

I spent a lot of time reading reviews before we left and to help us decide which area to stay and where to eat. You can't sweat the small things, because I don't think they are going to change, this is island time. We spent a week at the resort, and during that time got married on the beach. We didn't invite any guests.
The overview of the trip- it was great for what we wanted, would we come back to the same place, probably not. For what it is I think it is over priced there are better options, other places to see, but we had a perfect time.
The grounds were gorgeous, beach incredible. Food was ok.
We stayed on the Caribbean side, as we wanted the lush gardens and the low rise buildings. We were in 208 and decided after looking around the resort it was the best room, set back surrounded by trees but close to everything, VERY quiet. The wood furnishings in the room were a little tired, the bathroom was small but the actual bedroom very large. Air conditioning is very affective. House keeping never came early, sometimes when we came back to the room at 2pm they still hadn't come so we ended up foregoing the service on those days.
The beach was gorgeous we stayed here all the time but once. The Med. pool is pretty if you like pools and definitely this is where the younger people hang out. Service in the restaurants is below average.
We found that the server would take multiple table's orders at once, turn them in to the kitchen all at once, bring them to the tables in no order. This happened to us almost every night. The OK Corral was the worst, our order was taken for 2, a table of 4 next to us ordered after, they got their food before us and while we continued to wait they kept ordering more food, which was delivered to them before we got any of our order. Then when we wanted to order additional dishes we were told the kitchen was closed! oh and they were out of all desserts. It actually became a running joke, what was dinner going to be like tonight? Mario's food was the best, Eleanor's had the best view.
There water sports were free but usually with a long wait. The beach sellers got a little irritating but were certainly not as bad as the beaches of Jamaica. The Antigua airport is frustrating, the hotel buses drop everyone off in the same spot, tons of people and luggage all falling over on each other and no one knows what they are doing and there is no one there to take control.
All this said it was a great trip.

Room Tip: Caribbean side is quieter, only two levels high, beautiful gardens but more dated. room 208 was grea...

We recently visited St.Lucia for our one year wedding anniversary (La Toc) and I have to say the customer service at this Sandals in Antigua was FAR BETTER. Two days into the vacation I wanted to fly back to Antigua. I would HIGHLY recommend this resort and if you get married request Nasasha, she's amazing!

Stayed in the rondoval hut right on the beach front. Jeffery and Cecil were our butlers. Jeffery was mostly on duty during our stay and went above and beyond! Visited Shirley heights and recommend that as well only if you enjoy music and dancing. Yes we did have our spot reserved every morning on the beach but you do get what u pay for so not sure why there's so many complaints regarding that, pay the Extra and get the perks! also the wait for food etc it's really not that bad if you want service in a minute visit a mcdonalds drive through you'll get it there. since this is the islands and your on vacation stop stressing over unnecessary details. We did the couples massage and it was terrific they definitely hit the right spots. Did many vacations in many islands countries etc.... And this was hands down one of the best couples massage. Food wise it was great for an all inclusive we don't tend to vacation just to eat and drink but for the whole package. And this place had it beach was beautiful we don't even waste our time at the pool what's the point u can do that at home in your own backyard. The people here are so friendly not sure why there were reviews saying the opposite unless your giving out the ignorant vibes I'm assuming your just getting it back. The beach is public so there are people walking up and down selling tours jewellery etc a simple no thanks and they will leave you alone. I fully recommend sandals grande antigua it's a nice romantic getaway!

This resort was seriously almost perfect for us. The buildings are beautiful, the spa is heaven, the food is delicious, and the service is awesome.

We only had 2 complaints about the place, and some may not see this as bad:
1) All beaches on Antigua are public space, by law, which means if you do step out onto the beach you run the risk of your relaxation being interrupted multiple times by locals trying to sell you things. We were looking for a nice quiet vacation, so this part really didn't work out. We ended up avoiding the beach except for our prearranged on-the-beach dinner for two, which was quite lovely and cost extra.
2) Even though the resort was beautiful and perfect for a nice quiet vacation away from everything, we realized a few days in that we would have liked to have more opportunities to maybe dance or socialize a bit. The resort has a pub where you can meet people, watch sports, and play a bit of pool which is nice. Unfortunately, there were VERY few opportunities for live music and dancing all week.

Room Tip: Can't go wrong with oceanfront rooms

We had a wonderful week at Sandals. We met three other couples there and had really good time connecting with some old friends and making new ones. The resort itself is meticulously maintained. The landscaping is beautiful, our room was nice and everything worked as it should. The staff was superb. Everyone was friendly, helpful and seemed to do what ever was required to make the guest happy. As the week went on you developed a rapport with the folks you interacted with regularly. My wife used the spa twice, and the technician she liked the first time rearranged her schedule to make sure she was available for her second visit. The food was good, and clearly a cut above the stereo type of all-inclusive. The jerk pork at Barefoot may be one of the better lunches on any island. I would stick to the seafood and dishes with a local flavor - at least that is my bias. The beach dinner/BBQ was excellent. We did two days "off-resort": one on a day sail, and one at English Harbor and in town at St. John. The Wadadli Cats circumnavigation cruise is a must do - you can book it at the activities desk or independently. On a kind of rainy day we explored the island - the concierge arranged a cab for the day and he dropped us off and picked us up where and when we wanted. It is good to see the island beyond the resort. The resort controlled part of the airport transfer process worked like a well oiled machine - too bad they don't control Antiguan immigration (patience and realize you're on a tropical island). An all-inclusive is not our thing every year (we spend a lot of time in the VI and typically rent a condo and are a bit more independent), but Sandals was excellent and we'd definitely do it again for our next all inclusive.
