“Nice location, pretty gardens and clean accommodation now tired and dated”
Reviewed 1 July 2013

Stayed for 2 weeks in May.
This is a timeshare resort on Dickenson Bay which is very pretty but remote.
There are very few local bars and restaurants as Sandals is right next door and this is All Inclusive which means local business' struggle to attract sufficient customers.

The accommodation was very clean and cleaned every day.
The Gardens are very pretty with a large varied collection of trees and shrubs.
The pool is pretty but only rarely cleaned so usually full of various types of vegetation which has been blown in - especially on Saturdays when the lawns are mowed and lots of grass ends up in the pool.
We were eaten alive by mosquitoes so don't forget your spray's - we did and it was a painful lesson.
The reception is cool and has many ideas for trips and excursions however the Reception staff are not very communicative and look miserable so we tended to ask the local taxi drivers who didn't seem to need an email message to let their faces know they were happy and smiled a bit.
I can only assume they are family members of the proprietors as they wouldn't get employed in a service industry otherwise.
Dickenson Bay is remote from St Johns and around a $20 taxi ride each way. It will be up to you to ascertain if that is EC$ or US$. It is a local scam to quote prices in dollars and when the price is agreed to state that the price is US dollars which equates to 2.6 times more expensive than the equivalent amount in EC$.
I recommend the Sunday trip to Shirley Heights which is organised by reception when they can be bothered.
Also recommend the Catamaran trip around the Island on Tuesdays on the Wadali Cat, see Jacob the Rasta man on the Beach for bookings.
Recommend C&C wine bar in St Johns for a drink and cheap eats - ask the taxi driver its easy to find at the Cruise ship quays.on Radcliffe Quay.
And say Hi to Evelyn a really nice, friendly, beach trader selling handmade trinkets.

This resort has nice grounds and a swimming pool and beach access. We were in a villa and it was in poor condition. The furniture needed updating, the screen door to the patio was off line and maintenance had to come fix but still could get perfect. The patio door was also out of whack
All of the rooms were very good size. The bathroom and kitchen were very work and the range almost seemed like an antigue. If you want to heat up anything in the oven that was impossible since the front of the range was corroded and the temperature numbers on the oven dial were all gone. The resort is right next to Sandals and at night beginning at 9 p.m. the loud speaker blasted their music as did the bar across the street. You turn on the AC and close the bedroom door but the door was off line and closing it was very difficult. There is no washing machine but housekeeping will do your launder: $17 US for a full load and 8.50US for a half load. Given the other reviews have mentioned the better quality of their units, why do the staff put people in units that are in such poor shape?

Room Tip: The villas are on three levels-walk in level then stairs to kitchen, living room and patios and then...

Getting to Antigua is never cheap or easy - but the $525. air fare with only one stop in Newark started a domino effect in our family ... that resulted in a wonderful family adventure!

Beach House 28 at Antigua Village was like coming home! Everything we wanted - except a bbq, which we rented for 20. from housekeeping! We travelled a family of six adults...
Three well appointed bedrooms, three baths, right on the most marvelous beach in the world, in a place where we felt secure and comfortable.
The weather was hot hot hot - but then again we rarely ever go south from 2 to 9 June!
Arrival party at Shirley Heights - an Antiguan tradition not to be missed - rum punch, a fantastic barbeque and live music!!
The day spent driving around the island with our cousin was unforgettable - reverse driving - both on the wrong side of the road, and on the wrong side of the car was a whirly challenge!
We rented a 7 passenger van from Capital Rentals - Dawn - and got good service - though we did one breakdown on the road into the hotel upon arrival!
First Choice is where we shopped - newly opened since we last were there - although the Epicurean is still a favourite and I understand has upgraded and expanded...
We loved lunch at the Nelson Dockyard - and the little private tour we got from Chris the Curator - a very impressive young man!
Our day on the Wadadli, circumnavigating the island is not to be forgotten - it included lunch, an open bar (after the snorkling) and lots of stops at awesome beaches for refreshing impromptu swimming in crystal clear water! Kudos to Captain Andre on that one!
This type of vacation is not cheap, not is it easy, - two planes to get there, renting a car, shopping, cooking - all things I don't typically do on holidays... I am the ultimate all inclusive / charter airline girl!!
So why? Family time with relatives on the island, different vibe than a hotel, unbeatable beaches, adventure of a different kind.... in town... on Dickinson Bay... minutes from town and from family!
Nails at Kelly's on Temple Street - totally freehand crazy island design $30 u.s.d.
Roti down below at Nicole's (edible something) like Guyanese and authentic - reasonable and delicious!
Visits all over the island - not an on resort vacation...
Two of our guys went to Non Such to take sail boarding... the boys rented a sea doo -
All in All, a very good holiday! - Loved Peppers & Limes - Coconut Grove a little expensive and over rated...
Would we go again? You bet!!

I had the pleasure of being invited to join a friend for her time share at Antigua Village. Our unit was lovely. We were on the second floor with a balcony that looked at the water. The unit was spacious, and comfortable. The bedroom AC was fine. The living room tended to get a bit hot at times as we didn't always get the best cross breezes, but we managed. We had most supplies we needed. There were little ants in the kitchen but they were easy to deal with and a good reminder to wipe up food IMMEDIATELY. The location is great, and I did read some reviews from prior guests who complained about no bar or restaurant, but there are 2 to choose from, literally steps from the property, a few places a short walk away, easy access to cab drivers, a little convenience (and expensive) store on the property, that sells liquor too, and usually a local vendor selling fresh fruit and vegetables near the reception office on most days. It's low season so many units were empty, i can imagine in high season it can get pretty packed. What stood out most to me was how friendly everyone was. The fact that some people owned units, and many are time share people, there was a very friendly and family vibe about the place which added to the experience. It was very easy to meet people, visitors, locals, and employees, and for the week I was there, it felt very homey. You have free wifi on the property as well as cable TV with loads of channels. There is enough going on with vendors nearby, and the assistance of the main office, that you could easily stay put for the entire week without feeling like you had to taxi elsewhere. Granted, you might want a little variety for restaurants, but you could manage if you needed to.

Room Tip: It was a slow week but the units are fairly close so if you had people around you in other units, i...

The Antigua village experience is relaxing and the beach-front location is great. It's lovely to walk up and down Dickenson Bay and Runaway Bay, and sit in the gardens around AV. Nipping back to the apartment to get a beer or gin and tonic really is relaxing! It's a great place to stay and relax during the day, and then go out from in the evening for dinner to a local restaurant. It's a friendly place and I think it's a great place to stay if you want your own privacy and to be master of your own holiday!

Room Tip: Avoid the side nearest the noisy Pepperz n Lime restaurant!

So this was our first time staying on the island and certainly won't be our last. This hotel was wonderful! I would recommend Pepperz and Lime to eat and certainly drink on Sundays but avoid Coconut Grove. Horrible service, overpriced and awful food that made me sick for 3 days! But, as for the hotel, it was amazing! Peaceful, quiet and tranquil. Friendly staff and William our taxi driver #711 was awesome. Take the island tour with him! Miss it already and just came home!

Room Tip: Rooms away from the pool are quieter

Antigua Village is a rare commodity and obviously isn't everyone's cup of tea as it were. It isn't a hotel there is no bar or restaurant it is a timeshare/condominium with a range of accommodation types from Suites to Studios all self contained. Over the years we have stayed in a number of different units and it is fair to say some have been better maintained and equipped than others. It is also fair to say that if you have a problem at all the staff will sort it for you and if it can't be sorted as happened with us on one occasion they will transfer you to another unit cannot fault the staff here they are very good indeed from the gardeners right up to the top they are friendly and helpful and keen to ensure your vacation goes smoothly and as enjoyable as possible.

This year we stayed for 4 weeks in February in unit 38A a ground level studio in the garden area. It is nice and quiet around there the views of the Caribbean albeit restricted and the soft noise of the sea lapping on the beach a constant reminder of just how close you are to paradise. There is a sandy area at the beach front of the garden with loungers a short stroll with a cup of tea or coffee and you can just sit and watch the world go by. Good security means little problem with vendors and the vendors who do walk by are very friendly you will soon get to know them and they are no trouble. Beach towels are provided and the laundry will do other stuff quite reasonably priced so no need to carry vast amounts in your luggage.

Food wise you have the choice and what a choice it is go to the supermarket and stock up the large fridge freezer that is in every unit and cook in when you wish and eat out when you wish. Lots of variation around and about eat out expensively great food to be had at la Bussola and Coconut Grove even better and cheaper at Pepperz and Lime and Putters, Colins steaks at Putters Bar flame grilled and as good as any on the island and on a Wednesday and Friday Dave brings his Fish and Chip van to the layby out back of AV 35ECD will get you the best fish and chips on the island what a bargain eat al fresco or take away you can get a really good currie as well.

So there you go something completely different Antigua Village is a great way to relax and spend some time no hassle no regimentation no fighting for food in queues at coffee machines and buffet tables or waiting for eggs you all know what I mean it is more of a relocation from home to home escape the horrible cold and spend some time living on Antigua one of the best island destinations in the Caribbean.

Room Tip: We like the garden rooms for the privacy, peace and quiet.
