“I would definitely come back!”
Reviewed 8 July 2012

In early June, my best friend and I visited Coconut Beach Club in St. John Antigua. We purchased an all-inclusive Groupon for this resort earlier in the year. We stayed for 5 days and four nights and as a previous reviewer said, it was a little slice of heaven! The views and atmosphere were absolutely gorgeous and felt like a dream. We had a lower-level room with a deck that went straight out to the beach. The water was calm and it had the prettiest turquoise-blue color. I even saw a huge starfish when I was playing in the water! The resort staff was extremely attentive and we spent a good bit of time getting to know them which made our stay even better. It was such a relaxed atmosphere, it was very easy to make friends with other guests as well.

Overall, the accommodations were okay - the room was clean and neat but the bathroom was definitely outdated and could use some new fixtures. We didn't spend much time in the room at all so we were able to deal with it.

The resort features an infinity pool, nearby bar and open-air restaurant. It was so pretty and very "tropical." The food was delicious and the presentation was even better. On Sunday nights, they have a live steele band play after dinner, so that is a treat too. I highly recommend getting the catamaran tour from Frenchie, who's on the beach in the morning time booking tours. We went on the Wadadli Cats boat ride and it was amazing - excellent food, snorkeling, tour commentary, and of course LOTS of rum punch!

The thing that I liked most about Coconut Beach club was that fact that it was physically tucked away between two huge landscapes on the beach side. This means that the beach was completely private to the resort. Only guests can get to the beach or else you'd have to come in by boat. We went during their "slow" season, so the resort wasn't at full capacity so there was lots of room to hang out on the beach and overall, it was pretty quiet.

I would love to go back and visit and I recommend that others go too. It truly is a gem and you come back wishing that you could have stayed for much longer. I'm trying to see if I can return next year! (Come out with more Groupons!)

Room Tip: I recommend getting ground-level rooms so you can walk right out to the beach without going around t...

Coconut Beach Club was a great resort for us to visit. It was quiet and relaxing, the beach was very nice and not at all crowded. The people at the resort were very helpful. We had a lot of questions and they were patient and accommodating. The restaurant served buffet-style breakfast and lunch with plenty of options and the dinners were especially great! The room we stayed in was nice - not fancy, but still nice. A note: there is no television in the room. It didn't matter to us at all, but it is something to note if that is important to you. There is a separate TV area at the resort near the restaurant if TV is a necessity. I really loved how private the place was. There were other couples at the resort, but it was still very private and peaceful. However, if you're looking for a "party" type of resort, try somewhere else. This is more low-key, relaxed and couple-oriented. The ONLY other thing I found to be odd was there there was no soap in the rooms. We were using the provided shampoos as soap. Once again, a minor thing that didn't matter once were were there. Overall, great place to stay. We were very sad to leave!

Just got back from Antigua and stayed at the CBC for the first leg of our journey. We had the upper floor Suite that afforded us great views of the ocean--However, there is no need to upgrade because all the views are great--You feel like the beach belongs to you and a few of your newly made friends. The room was large and the write up said full kitchen--Well, it was a full kitchen but the only appliance it had was a small fridge. As an all inclusive, one would think that they would at least supply you with a few beverages in this tiny fridge--if you wanted bottled water you would have to purchase it from the front desk but they would refill your bottles at the bar if you asked. The staff was very friendly and the food was unpredictable. Some days it was great and others it was not! The grounds could use a bit more upkeep. They have a great pool, but it's right by the bar and doesn't have any lounge chairs to relax on. The beach was beautiful but the water was a bit rough and at times difficult to swim. We would often find ourselves taking about a 15-20 minute walk to Hideaway Bay (Deep Bay) where the water was amazing. It was consistently calm and the beach had very few visitors--My favorite spot--When you see brochures of the ideal Caribbean beaches, I believe that was it! Would I go back to CBC--Yes!!

My first trip to the Caribbean and what an absolute delight. From the moment we arrived at CBC the reception was warm and friendly, like coming home. Within quarter of an hour we were unpacked, seated at the bar with Brent mixing our first cocktails and introducing us to other guests. And the bar is the social hub, as people meet or cross paths throughout the days and long evenings, relating their latest adventure, planning future excursions or just relaxing in the company of like-minded people. Perfect for garrulous types, but plenty of space for those who want peace and quiet - with relatively few rooms and a wonderfully long beach, it is never crowded. The food in the restaurant was superb at breakfast, lunch and dinner - and afternoon tea was always a treat. Dinner - a la carte five nights a week and buffet on Thursdays and Sundays - menu provided at lunch, so you could plan your evening and select your preferred time of dining. If you don't like/can't eat what is offered, do not hesitate to ask for something else; they are creative and flexible. And listen out for Cotton - the man can not only wait tables and mix a mean cocktail, he can sing! Our room (201A) was lovely - bedroom, living room and dining room were bright with very comfortable, modern furniture and the balcony + hammock was sooooo relaxing. Kitchen and bathroom were clean and could perhaps do with a bit of refurb. The service was superb throughout - reception, bar and restaurant, but I must also say thank you to all those who work behind the scenes - management, kitchen staff, cleaners, maintenance and security.
In summary, there is a rustic charm to this resort, that is overwhelmingly greater than the sum of all the parts. You might get polished marble bathrooms, five restaurants and a fleet of sailing dinghies on the beach at Sandals, but you will get nothing like the friendly, relaxed atmosphere you get at CBC. Nicole - fantastic job by you and your staff. We will be back (and not four days late next time)!!
Excursion tips: 1. WADADLI Cats Circumnavigation of Antigua - 6hrs, includes snorkelling, lunch and drinks. What a beautiful island. 2. Shirley Heights - shuttle trip to see best sunset view of the island with excellent steel band and reggae band and back to resort for dinner, or take taxi to stay longer - awesome party. 3. Stingray City - tacky name, but a trip you won't forget, incredible creatures. 4. Island Tour by jeep - recommend Marcus Tours, Marcus being a former teacher, you will get the most fascinating tour and history lesson.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms allow direct walk to beach 10 feet away from veranda. First floor rooms have same...

Although this is not the most fancy, 5-star hotel, it is quiet, peaceful and feels slow-paced which is exactly what we were looking for on our vacation. The staff is amazing- funny, attentive, personable. The rooms were a little outdated- but we didn't go to hang out there. Spend most of our time on the beach or at the bar :) Food was good- never disappointing! Thanks CBC!

We spent one week at CBC as we celebrated our 25th anniversary. We loved getting to know the other international guests. We sought out conversations with them; but if you preferred solitude, there was PLENTY of space to accommodate that desire. We visited the last week of June, 2012 and it is obviously NOT high travel season...the whole time, there were probably not more than 6 or 8 people sharing the HUGE beach/bay area at any one time. So, so peaceful!
We were never hasseled by local beach vendors wanting to sell us trinkets or requesting to braid our hair.
I can honestly say that I didn't miss having a TV in our room, at all! Wifi (available in the common areas) was slow, but I suspect that is the case on most islands.
We saw our best water life while snorkelling near the rocky outcrops to the left of the beach. The water gets a little choppy by lunchtime and the visibility plummets. Get out there really early in the morning, if you want the best viewing opportunity.
We tried to snorkel on the right side of the beach area and visibility was poor, so we gave up and headed for the pool instead. We almost always had the pool to ourselves.
The location of Coconut Beach Club allowed us to watch a variety of boats and ships traveling into the St. John's port. We didn't find their presence overpowering or obtrusive...it just added interest to the horizon.
We enjoyed the steel band at Shirley Heights on Sunday evening, but I found it sweltering hot and really crowded. We liked the band that was hosted by CBC even better; and in hind sight, I would rather stay on resort and enjoy the more intimate setting than navigate the crowd at Shirley Heights!
We had a wonderful time on the Wadadli Cat circumnavigation tour of the island. It included snorkeling at a more secluded, clearwater area; a delicious lunch; swimming at a second beach; and observing various highlights of architecture, history, and geological highlights that could be seen from the water. This was definitely a highlight of our trip.
The people, the island, the resort added up to one wonderful memory maker for us. Two thumbs up for the island as a treasure. Two thumbs up for Coconut Beach Club's service, setting, and atmosphere. However, don't get me started on the Antiguan Airport...that's a whole different story that ends with two thumbs down!

We arrived, shown our room....room was extremly hot as there is only one very tiny old a/c that was spitting air. Room was full of ants and furnishings were old bed very worn and might be ok if you sleep in the middle. Resort and i use that word loosely was old, in disrepair and not what you would expect by photos. Poolside bar was a joke, had heinken tap but local beer was served from it. Could not comment on staff as we did not stay long enough to find out. My husband spends time in Afghanistan and his housing is better there than in this place. Cannot find the words to describe our dissapointment. However all was not lost we found another hotel and enjoyed our vacation

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere.
