“An excellent holiday”
Reviewed 4 April 2014

We stayed at the hotel in March and I thought this would not be a particularly easy review to write. Briefly, on arrival I found a number of niggles but on leaving we look back to one of our very best holidays, having relaxed and really enjoyed ourselves. This is a small hotel, the smallest we have stayed at, and this was noticeable on arrival. However, we also noticed how well maintained and clean the grounds were. (We also noticed the mongooses running freely.

When we arrived in our room we were pleasantly surprised by the size of both the bedroom and the bathroom. The balcony was a good size too, with 2 comfortable chairs. As promised in the brochure all rooms have a sea view. The niggles were all to do with the room. The furniture was tired and drawers did not run easily. The balcony was tired and in need of decoration. The wardrobe door did not slide properly and I felt it could come off. There was no table. But the worst was the shower could not be controlled and ranged from extremely hot to very cold when showering. On many occasions the water was just lukewarm. All this was, however, compensated by the best and most comfortable bed and pillows we have ever had in a hotel. A bed you could get lost in. A We experienced perfect night's sleep for the whole 2 weeks. There was more than adequate drawer space and the wardrobe was large enough to take all our hanging clothes and had plenty of hangers. The niggles quickly paled to insignificance, especially as we spent very little time in the bedroom. The room was kept immaculately clean with maid service every day.

The beach was perfect and used mainly by guests, although all beaches are public there were few others using it except when there visitors from cruise liners, but they were generally few. The sun loungers had seen better days but were comfortable and in good supply. The sea was safe and warm and ideal for swimming. The swimming pool was kept clean and free leaves etc..

The restaurant, bar area and TV lounge were also kept clean, tidy and comfortable. Whilst it is advertised as an all inclusive there were no snacks as such. However, you could always take something from the breakfast selection for later in the day !!. With the 3 meals a day and tea and cakes at 4 there was ample food. The breakfast buffet did suffer a little from a lack of variety but the food was hot, well cooked and plentiful. The lunch buffet offered a daily variety and again was well prepared well, hot and plentiful. The 4 course evening meal was always excellent and provided a good variety. In the 2 weeks we were there the evening meal was not duplicated. It was always well prepared and cooked and extremely tasty.

Final comments are for the staff team. Unlike big hotels you get to know them all very well. They are always exceptionally friendly, helpful and smiling and nothing was too much trouble for them. Whenever I wanted a coffee one was made for me, the room was kept immaculate, I had no complaints about the food and eggs were cooked to order. The bar was well run and offered a full range of drinks and cocktails all well made. The hotel grounds were kept clean and tidy and free from rubbish. Everyone made this holiday and it would not be fair to name only a few.

If I have any comments to make, and if the owners read this, it would be for coffee to be freely available all day (possibly in the TV lounge) and for nuts/crisps/nibbles to be available in the evening at the bar.

Lastly, be well prepared for the mosquitos.

Room Tip: Choose a top floor room for best sea view

This our second visit { 2 years ago } and it hasn't changed a bit, if it has all for the better, some nice large padded sun loungers facing the sea are relaxing. Our room was right on the top floor so had a big balcony over looking the beach and sea, and you needed a bike to get to the toilet at night!!, lovely huge bed you could get lost in, the room was cleaned every day and even if i left jewelry out i felt you could trust the staff, yes people on here moan about the state of the rooms, but really all you use it for is for sleeping and to get ready for the evening, yes this year the mossies were a bot of a nuisance but we sprayed indrustrial strengh spray, the place is spayed every other evening, you'll here him before you see him. The food was good and always a good choice i loved the fish dishes, but the powdered cheese cake were awful and i am not usually fussy eater. The choice of cocktails were lovely- i got through quite a few! but i do think the measures were a tad short but it wasn't a problem a have a top up of vodka for example. A tip i took a empty big bottle to use to fill up with water, so you havent got to buy one and be left with loose change. We went on a private hired trip to see the cricket ground as we missed the last days match the day we landed, also we got taken to half moon bay which a spectactular the sand was like flour ALL the staff were amazing espacially jahilda she should be a comediian!! even the gardener was respectful, walking by he turned off his mower. Yes one day the peace was disruped by some cruise ship day tripers and it was like a load of let loose teenagers, they sat on the padded seats with wet costumes ans went dripping into the restaurant, it was noted that day to the manager,a polite notice woundn't go amiss to say NOT to sit on padded seats with wet items on would be good. having said all that would we come back again-my husband has said when england next play cricket there again, so that would be a yes then!!

A small, friendly hotel in a gorgeous bay location. Rooms are large and bright with a balcony overlooking the sea and large, very comfortable beds. Not perfect - rooms lack storage space and (too often) hot water, and most beach sun loungers need replacement - but the staff are a joy. Cheerful, friendly and always willing to help - just ask! Tanza and Renee immediately spring to mind but also the 'behind the scenes' staff like gardeners and housekeeping who are unobtrusive and very efficient, keeping rooms and grounds immaculate. The grounds are quite lush and include a small lake with ducks etc as part of a bird walk, so unsurprisingly the grounds are 'fogged' every few evenings to keep down the mosquitoes. Just stay indoors while they are doing it. However, the siting of the swimming pool leaves something to be desired. Forget lounging around the pool - but then again the beach is just a few steps away and there is plenty of space for everyone. Even the noisy day-trippers from cruise liners who appear from time to time. In fact the beach is a perfect spot to watch the cruise liners enter and depart from nearby St Johns - usually early morning and evening.
As I said, not perfect but we would happily go again!

We returned one week ago from a fantastic 9 night stay here for the West Indies vs England one day series. don't come here to expect 5 star modern luxury, modern decour and OTT entertainment.
What you will get when you stay here is a hotel that is embedded in the West Indies way of life, a fantastic beachside location (a lovely private beach it is too) nice rooms (maybe could do with a lick of paint but I think how the hotel is adds to the charm) which are cleaned every day and fresh bedding, very quiet so a goods night sleep, a lovely layout where the square bar is right next to the restaurant and everyone congregates after their meal so everyone gets to talk to each other.
The food is fantastic, the evening a la carte menu we always looked forward to (many thanks to the chef) All the staff are so friendly they even made a birthday cake and got me a bouquet of flowers for my girlfriends birthday which was very much appreciated:)
A special mention to Renee and Brent who worked behind the bar who always had a smile on their faces, always had time to chat to you and talk about their fantastic island and who made fantastic cocktails!:) All in all I would recommend this place to anyone who is wanting a nice chilled out holiday in Antigua with great food, fantastic service and so friendly and helpful staff. I wouldn't hesitate to come here again and I do hope it will be very soon. Thanks to all at the Coconut Beach Club for making our holiday one to remember:)

Room Tip: try and get a room on the ground floor as it's only a walk out of you're patio door and you...

Our stay at the Coconut Beach left us totally relaxed, well fed and rejuvenated. My husband, who has mobility problems, particularly liked the proximity to the beach. Yes, the place could have done with a lick of paint and the mosquitoes were a nuisance, but the food and service were 5*. Thank you to all of the staff for making us so welcome and for providing my husband with a birthday to remember.

We have just returned from 10 glorious days at the Coconut Beach club 1-11th March. Having been there a long time ago we think that the changes to the bar area etc are great. The staff are exceptional from the Manager to the gardners but one member of staff derserves a special mention Renee. This young lady always had a great smile for you, was never too busy to have a conversation and took great pride in her job.
Yes the rooms need a bit of up-dating but please don't change the huge beds, they are so comfortable and our huge one in 205A was so good for out backs( comes to us in later life). The food was very good especially the Evening meals which were so tasty and gave us the chance to taste food that we would otherwise not tried. The bread pudding and Rum and Raisen icecream were delicious.
People do tend to sit around the bar and at times it seemed as if a game of musical chairs was taking place, but there are plenty of charirs and table away from this area. We were lucky enough to get to see Englands last one day game ehich added to our great holiday especially as we had a large group of Englands most avid followers staying at the hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view at no added cost

We visited the CBC between the 12th and 25th February. From the arrival at reception with a welcoming rum punch through to checking out, the staff and I mean all the staff, were friendly and helpful.
The location is as near idyllic as you could hope for and the rooms, although a little dated are clean and freshly decorated. We were on the second floor and had a great view, although all rooms have a sea view.
The food was always of a high standard with plenty of choice and with a la carte five days out of seven a pleasant change to normal all inclusive hotels.
Whilst there it was our wedding anniversary (25th) and we were given a complimentary bottle of champagne with dinner, a nice touch that was much appreciated.
The beach was always clean and the sea crystal clear, although it did get a bit windy most afternoons so you could feel a bit sand blasted. If so a walk away is deep bay, a beautiful unspoilt beach, very sheltered so very little wind.
For the trips you should see Frenchie, he's there everyday and even if you don't get your trips from him, he'll still pass the time of day with you. A word of warning the round the island catamaran trip can (did) get very choppy, so if prone to seasickness maybe avoid.
We chatted to many couples, quite a few who had been before and never heard a bad word about the place.
Sundays is steel band night and as one of our fellow guests said "it was brilliant".
All in all a thoroughly enjoyable relaxing holiday.
