“coconut cocktail you wont be disapointed”
Reviewed 20 January 2010

My partner & i holidayed here in November we had the most fantastic time. Our first time back to the caribbean in 7yrs,the hotel has a very calm and laid back atmosphere,& you really can just chill out.I have mobility issues which i made the hotel aware of before we travelled & yes a ground floor room was allocated.
If you have always stayed in the higher end of hotels you probably wont suit this rustic, peacefull, tranquill, calming, un pretentious hotel.
We walked up to the "Antiguan Hotel" next door highly polished, almost ott for me but this hotelwas empty which made it very soulless.
The "CoconutBeach" is a hotel i would certaintly recommend,if we were to return to Antigua then i would make my way back here no hesitation.

First off a bit about us. We are in our early 50's and enjoy going to a Caribbean Island just about every year. We live in Central Oregon in a small community. We live a fairly simple life and enjoy our vacations as we both work hard throughout the year, I work at a golf course in the Food and beverage Dept. and have over 30 years in the business, Kat is a sales rep covering the state of Oregon. We enjoy vacations where we are on our own,ie self catering, driving ourselves,(we didn't drive this time) and exploring restaurants, historical sites, local events beach time, lots of beach time and have been known to imbibe at times.
We stayed from Dec. 28, 2009 thru Jan. 14, 2010

The CBC is located right on the beach, depending on the tide the beach is good during low tide and okay during high tide. The palapas provide shade at times and the hotel grounds provide shade at other times. The water can be smooth as glass and calm enough to walk into without getting my sunglasses wet. It can also be fairly rough and difficult at times, Its the Sea what can anyone do about that. The beach at Deep bay seems to be a little calmer and bigger just a 15 minute walk.
We stayed in a self catering room so we had a full fridge and 4 top stove w oven and microwave. The Kitchen utensils were a bit sparse but we managed to cook breakfast & lunch almost everyday, and a couple of dinners. Yes we had to take a cab to the store to get groceries and yes the cab's do seem to be expensive.
The rooms are simple and clean with fairly good water pressure in the shower and plenty of hot water. The bed was comfortable and the linens crisp. There are not TV's in the rooms which makes our vacation even better. There is television in the lounge if you really need to watch BSU beat TCU in the Fiesta Bowl. The dining table seats 6 comfortably (we used half of it for books, sunglasses, cameras, etc.) Didn't use the couch much but it was serviceable. We moved the chair cushions to the patio/deck chairs as we spent a lot of time out there. Overall a very clean and comfortable room.
Restaurant and lounge Pretty simple and basic for the most part we only had dinner there 3 times and the food was well prepared and presented, though the choices are limited it was well done. The bar only had the basics but the staff did a great job of creating delicious cocktails.
One of the most important items on our vacation list is meeting people. We met some great guests at CBC, The bar seems to be the gathering place at noon, 4:00pm (tea time) and around 7:00pm. We met A bunch of Brits, a couple of Italians, some Danes, Fins, Germans, an Australian or 2, a couple of attorneys from Philly, A group of people from the jersey area (the blow dryer gang) who left their friend there to go to med school. A couple of adventurists from San Jose who were moving on to other islands,a couple from Indiana and a very nice woman from Canada, Jono and Meg some crew from the Juliet docked at Falmouth. We enjoyed all of their company and hope to stay in contact with many of these great people. Their company will be some of our most cherished memories from this trip.
The Staff at CBC are incredible and do everything they can to make the stay as pleasurable as possible. Renato the manager and his cocktail parties, where he seems genuinely interested in hearing about your stay. Rennie The dining room manager who's smile could set the world on fire and his easy going "can do" attitude makes everything alright. Bernadette, Jahilda, Coco, Cotton and the rest of the F& B staff will always be there when you need them with smiles on their faces. A big shout out to Quincy the Grounds Superintendent who cleared our view and helped my hangover with delicious fresh coconut water. The Housekeeping staff who had to guess what kind of service we needed each day we were there and always fulfilled our needs. The front desk were also the Concierges did a great job for us. The CBC cabbies, Sunny, Grantley, Everett, Sing and Captain Spencer helped us on a regular basis.
As with all things, there is room for improvement and I hope to address those things in a note to the management.
Overall an excellent value, location, Grounds, staff and company.
A good room, Bar & restaurant, Beach.
If you have any specific questions please pm me.

Ok, this is an HONEST review. We have just returned from CB after spending 10 days over Christmas.
First impressions were great, exceptionally friendly welcome at reception and as far as the staff go the service was about the best we have recieved in the Carribean.
The rooms were basic, clean and all had air con (we had a junior suite) Lovely balcony with chairs and hammock. Superb view of the ocean and a nice clean beach. ( although after 5 days the beach was no longer there as it was eroded by the sea so that put paid to sitting on the sand)
Now heres the main 2 problems. Food, at breakfast the hot choices were bacon, sausage and beans- this never varied. there are always eggs though. Fresh fruit etc constantly ran out and was never replenished.Lunch was always buffet and on at least 3 days was barely edible the rest of the time it was of a really poor quality, often ran out and was on a lot of occasions left overs from the previous day. Evening meal was ok but there are only 3 choices for each course and so if you are not a seafood fan or have dietry requirements, you are stuffed! You could have steak and fries or lobster for an additional charge, but when we tried to order it, it wasnt available for the first 2 days.
If you like decent food, this is not the place to go. Many people were eating out most nights because the food so poor. This is not eating out to Barbados standards, but by the time you have paid for a cab, it is very, very expensive.
Taxis on the island are really costly to st . Johns, $80 (US DOLLARS). the hotel is isolated and to walk to nearest supermarket just over 1 hours walk. There were 2 couples who were moved to alternative hotels.
Ok my last complaint was the entertainment- there wasnt ANY, not even over Christmas and this upset a lot of people. Felt like any other day. The Virgin rep said this was because the hotel was not full and the management did not have the money for nice food or entertainment. I wouldnt mind but we still paid full price (11k between five of us)
I will say, the staff were great and keep the drinks flowing. Jahilda, Clifton and Rennie were amazing. The medicine man walk was also fantastic and well worth going.
We did meet people all who have been to the hotel before and they all said it had gone down hill and wont be returning. We had actually booked for Christmas next year but am in process of changing my booking and will return to Bardados instead, this was the general census of opinion. One last thing, mosquitos, eat you alive and I have never, ever been bitten before but we all had hundreds of bites. Repellant does not work!

We stayed in Coconut Beach for one night only. It's a great, friendly place on a beautiful beach. All-inclusive. Dinner very tasty. Cocktails quite good too.

Nothing to do but alternate beach and bar. If you get bored then get a taxi to St John's.

Coconut Beach Club has ocean facing rooms with hammocks which was simply the most relaxing place I've ever been. The service is just exceptional - the staff are very polite and truly excellent. The food was delicious and the cocktails flowed. I highly recommend this resort, especially to couples due to its chilled atmosphere.

If super luxury with all mod cons, flawless decor, wall to wall enertainment and faultless, efficient service are prerequisites for your ideal holiday, go somewhere else.
On the other hand if you appreciate a simpler pace of life with peace and quiet, good food, no hustle and bustle, a beach not shared with half a dozen mega resorts and friendly Caribbean hospitality, you'll find it difficult to find a better place in Antigua.
Yes, the place is looking a little tired, but it's clean and comfortable and overall well managed and well run.
The food was good and sometimes very good with a more than adequate selection for every meal. The lunch and dinner menus appear to be on a 2 week rotation so unless you are on a more than 2 week stay you won't get the same meal twice.
Lunch is on a buffet basis with hot meat, fish, vegetable and salad dishes available with a few sweet options. We found it much better than the average hotel buffet with the hot dishes freshly prepared and with good local ingredients.
Apart from the Saturday barbeque and one weekly buffet, dinner is a la carte with a choice of 2 starters, a soup dish and 3 main courses, one of which is always vegetarian. There is also a nightly pasta option, and the choice of steak or lobster at a supplement. Some of the main courses had some strange combinations of ingredients, but that was part of the fun. The table wines were perfectly acceptable and plentiful, as were the drinks from the bar.
Other reports have described the faciltiies in more detail and we have no argument with the positives mentioned elsewhere.
Various people have described a few of the staff as a little surly but that was absolutely not our experience. As in any place, some are more willing than others, but if you give a friendly smile and show courtesy yourself , we found it was always reciprocated. Remember this is the Caribbean and life is lived at a different pace, with different values.
A number of our fellow guests were repeat visitors (some for many years) and we would certainly return if we visit Antigua again.

This was our second visit to the CBC. We took advantage of the special winter deals and booked directly with the hotel (and separate BA flights). Although we had only booked the deluxe room we got upgraded to the large suite. They also upgraded us on our last visit, which you certainly don't get if you go to a Hilton or other chain hotel, so thanks CBC. As part of our direct deal with the hotel, we got free taxi from the airport and champagne in the room.
This is not the smartest hotel on the island, but then you are not paying megabucks to stay there.
If you want somewhere to chill for a few days/weeks then this is the place to come. All the food is good, whether it is breakfast, lunch, tea or dinner. This isn't Gordon Ramsey and they are obviously working to a budget, but you shouldn't be disappointed.
The staff are all very friendly (special mention to Bernadette at breakfast) and will offer assistance in anything you want to do.
The sea can be quite rough on some days, but very calm on others, so it’s a bit unpredictable, but the beach is lovely for strolling along. If you fancy walking a bit further, walk to Fort Barrington and onto Deep Water Bay. It’s about 20 mins walk away and is generally deserted. Fabulous views and the sea is lovely. Well worth a visit!
On both our visits to the CBC, we have found the other guests very friendly and not the pretentious people you get in other more up-market resorts. We met a lot of lovely people there but a special note to Bob and his wife from Kent who were the life and sole of the hotel while we were there.
My wife and I would definitely return to the CBC.
