Excellent Dinner overlooking the caribbean . Great service from very friendly staff. I would recommend arriving just before sunset, have a bayhouse special cocktail while the sun sets and then I ordered the seafood grill which was delicious.

The Trade Winds hotel is a lovely property on the summit of a hill overlooking Antigua's Dickenson Bay and beach on one side and the eastern Atlantic coast on the other. It catches every bit of the trade winds making it comfortable even in the most extreme heat. I was there recently on a two-week business trip and there was a great mix of tourists and business travelers. The food served in the restaurant is very diverse and generally of very high quality - when the restaurant is full, service can suffer, but then, there are those lovely vistas and breezes to enjoy. The room I was in was new, spotless and very comfortably furnished. The staff overall are attentive but not intrusive and very approachable.

Because it is on a hill, there are a number of steps to navigate no matter which room you may be in, although those closer to the restaurant have fewer steep climbs.

Room Tip: All the rooms have balconies and face Dickenson Bay, but I'd ask for one in the "new"...

We spent our second consecutive Christmas/New Year's at Trade Winds this past holiday season. Both trips were for a week's stay.

We find Trade Winds very charming and a more authentic Caribbean lodging than some of the newer properties on the island, however, some upgrades to the bathrooms and bed linens, etc. could go a long way. Having said that, the price is incredibly reasonable, the staff are charming, and they have the majority of services and amenities that guests care about, without being a full-scale resort. Pool, bar/restaurant/, free WiFi in rooms and common areas, room service, A/C, safe boxes in room, laundry, daily room cleaning, beach towels, 24 hour security, and knock-out views of Dickenson Bay from the rooms and balconies/decks, etc.

I tend to look at Trade Winds in the same vein of renting a local cottage, except throwing in a bunch of hotel amenities. If one were to rent a villa/condo on the island, it would probably have a kitchen, but likely none of the other services which make staying at a hotel a comfortable vacation. I think the tricky part is that many guests forget the value that they are receiving and tend to compare it with more American-style hotels. To my delight, this is not some concrete behemoth on the beach crawling with tourists at every turn; it's more old-world style and the staff recognize you and greet you genuinely, and by name.

The service is stellar - All Antiguans are absolutely charming for that matter, and those working at Trade Winds are no exception. All our needs were met, and they actually went to some very generous measures welcoming our second return - including flowers in our room, a bottle of Prosecco, etc. Absolutely lovely.

The views are stunningly gorgeous of the bay/beach below. We've had a junior suite on both ocassions and gotten plenty of use out of the massive balcony. One of our favorite activities has always been coming back after a day at the beach and having cocktails on the balcony while watching the sun go down.

Trade Winds is not located on the beach, and it's a bit of a trek up/down the hill to Dickenson Bay. I actually don't prefer Dickenson Bay over some of the other phenomenal beaches on the island, and I highly, highly recomment a rental car. Parking is free at Trade Winds, and it would be a crime to come to Antigua and only see the immediate area near the hotel. Jolly Harbour, Ffreys, Turner's, Half Moon Bay are some of my favorite beaches. Must also explore the English Harbour area.

The rooms themselves are comfortable, but not luxurious. The beds are a bit too firm, and the linens are on the thin side and outdated. The bathrooms could definitely use some updating; however, everything has always been very clean and we've enjoyed our stays at Trade Winds. It's also getting more and more difficult to find hotels on the island that are not "all inclusive." We intentionally avoid all-inclusive properties, because again - it's a crime to come to Antigua and be on a land-cruise. The food is wonderful on the island, and I highly recommend Jacque O's, Dennis' beach restaurant, Sheer Rocks, Le Bistro, La Bussola, Papparazzi, Catherine's Cafe, to name a few.

We will continue to stay at Trade Winds on our future visits to Antigua because it ticks all the main boxes (no gym though - but you can get your workout by walking/jogging to the Fort and back ~ a beautiful 7 miles), and we like a little adventure. And it is adventurous driving through downtown St. John!

If you require luxury, then you probably will not be happy here; but if you appreciate local charm, great service, and can adopt an islander's relaxed attitude while you're in Antigua, then you will probably find Trade Winds as delightful as we do.

Room Tip: I highly recommend the junior suites; they are usually on the top floor and possess commanding views...

As our flight was cancelled we needed to find a place to stay for one night and we booked at the Trade Winds. 1) We booked it online at a special rate yet when we arrived they charged us the incorrect price. 2) Air conditioning control broken. 3) Restaurant service and food was terrible. We had to wait at dinner and breakfast for 1/2 hour just to get coffee or a drink and another 1/2 hour to get our check once we finished with our meal.

There are plenty of choices in Antigua no need to settle for second best.

Room Tip: Pick another hotel

Thank you for your review. We are very sorry that your stay with us was unpleasant. It is a very rare occurrence of incorrect online booking and we've put methods in place to eliminate such another occurrence, please accept our apologies.

Providing our guests with the best hospitality and service is always our mission and we've addressed the long wait for dinner/breakfast service along with faulty air-conditioner remote.

Should you choose to come back to Trade Winds Hotel I would love to have the opportunity to speak with your directly. We hope to see you again in the future and wish you all the best.

We are two couples staying in 2 rooms at the Trade Winds in Antigua and it's been a disappointment. They don't do a good job cleaning to start with. Secondly they made a mistake in thinking we were only staying 1 night so when we got back from the beach the hotel had demagnetized our key cards as they wanted us to go to the front desk to tell us that they needed one of the rooms and would we mind if the 4 of us were in one room (and they weren't going to charge us any MORE for the inconvenience as I guess they charge extra for extra people in a room. A little too cozy for us thank you. This was their mistake yet they wanted to make it our problem. When we went to the desk to discuss the problem the clerk was very unprofessional and was even raising her voice. Clearly she should not be in the hospitality business.

We stayed here for only one day, prior to embarking on a cruise, but it was very lovely. Good food but pricey dining at their Bay House restaurant. Clean, small and a beautiful panoramic view of the sea. This is a lovely boutique property that is centrally located and close to the cruise docks and airport. No beach but they do have a shuttle to a close by one. Friendly service too. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Very relaxing place with fantastic sea view.

No great hardship to be left here for 2.5 days by British Airways when their flight from San Juan to London developed a fault. Very pleasant and friendly staff, not at all fazed by arrival of a group at 0200. Good rooms with well maintained facilities; colourful flowery grounds, although not extensive. Bar and restaurant a little laid back but so what - we were at leisure! The menus and food were excellent. Unable to explore the area, as did not know when we would get the call to leave, but the immediate vicinity was tidy and felt safe, unlike a report from a friend at another hotel. Can't assess value as BA paid.
