“Great authentic tasting Caribbean food!”
Reviewed 17 March 2014

It's not as easy as you would think to find authentic Caribbean food in Antigua - our resort catered to Americans and Brits and we wanted to sample some local dishes. We took a tour around the island and were told by the owner of Island Gourmet in St. John's about this place - as we started back on our tour our guide also suggested this same place for lunch so it was a no brainer!

The restaurant is off the beaten path in English Harbour and did not disappoint us - 4 of us went for lunch and we were impressed with the selection and taste.

There was one other place we would recommend for local food, but we don't know the name of it!!!! It is on the left side of the road when you are headed to StingRay City - right on the elbow of a turn overlooking the water - there are colorful picnic tables under a awning/tent - amazing food!

“Wow! What a great find.”
Reviewed 17 March 2014

Caribbean Taste isn't easy to find but it's well worth the small detour. There is an unassuming sign on Dockyard Drive that points the way up a dusty side road. It's an easy walk from the front entrance of Nelson's Dockyards or from English Harbour.

There are no printed menus with the daily fare being listed on a chalkboard that is moved from table to table. There's a great variety of local specials including stews, jerk chicken, pepperpot and lots of fish/seafood. Prices aren't listed so you may wish to ask but we found them to be fair.

The food was excellent - freshly cooked, large portions and simply served. The restaurant is not licensed to sell beer or wine but offers a nice variety of fresh fruit juices.

Seating is limited with most tables located outside on a covered veranda.

“Some of the best local cuisine on the island”
Reviewed 25 January 2014

We stopped here on our tour of Antigua and it is a family owned restaurant with great local cuisine. We tried the Roti with shrimp and the Ducana. Both were delicious and you can't get these flavors at alot of the restaurants on the island.

“Local Cuisine”
Reviewed 16 January 2014

I maybe hit it on a bad day, I went in for a late lunch and tried their curried goat, I was not impressed, untrimmed flank of goat in a very average "curry powder" yellow sauce and not a huge portion. The veggies etc were all very good though and the home made ginger beer is lovely and tasty if a little sweet. That all said, I thought it was very cheap and would recommend this if you are looking for local cuisine, there were many choices offered on the menu that I will probably go back for before the end of this holiday. Fine dining this isn't, but it is a good local enterprise trying to keep it local and make it in a busy tourist area.

“Tasty, but not cheap”
Reviewed 29 December 2013

Caribbean Taste isn't cheap local fare, but it is good and the servings are generous. It's on a side street, and we were the only guests on the evening we ate there. We shared a bowl of delicious lobster bisque and a plate of grilled shrimp (cooked with ginger and peppers, it was a bit zingy but not too hot), served with a salad, rice and beans, mashed potatoes, steamed veggies and a fantastic eggplant creole (said by two people who normally don't like eggplant!). With a bottle of water, it came to US$35, but it was plenty for two not-too-hungry people. We were pleasantly full and happy with our choice when we left.
