We went here independently from Jolly Harbour: two adults, two teenagers, and an eight year-old. We caught the #20 bus to St Johns, then the #17 bus to Nelson’s Dockyard (English Harbour). Journey time was an hour, and cost €60 EC in total (£20). There is zero need to to arrange a tour!

Entry to the Dockyard (which is a World Heritage site) cost €80 EC in total. For that we also got a short guided tour.

The Dockyard was built in 1765 (if I remember the facts correctly) and the buildings were constructed from bricks brought over from England as ballast for the ships. The ships returned laden with sugar. The buildings have now been converted into beautiful shops, a museum and restaurants (see review on Copper and Lumber restaurant).

We went here during the low season, and the place was beautifully quiet and tranquil. We spent a couple of hours here.

Well worth the time to get here!

Being British this was pretty interesting, we certainly learned some good new facts! The tour guide was excellent who showed us round, then we were left to wonder around. It’s quite a picturesque site, so a good spot for some pictures. It was pretty quiet when we were there, felt like we had the place to ourselves! It certainly tells a little of the story of Antigua, so worth a visit. Probably only an hour or so of time spent there.

Drive up to Shirley Heights first - this little jewel in the history of the island, overlooked the amazing dockyard which is stepped in history. Can't remember the exact cost to go in, but it is so well worth visiting with an interesting video offering an insight into it's past. Going into the dockyard itself at the bottom, was like walking back in time and has been so well preserved and maintained and offers a cool "pub", a quaint bakery, and masses of photo opportunities. The buildings and gardens are gorgeous.

We completely stumbled onto this one and ended up staying a couple hours. Quick 10 minute tour is well worth it and quite educational. Really beautiful location and some solid places for a drink and lunch or dinner.
