Just returned from a full week at Oceania in a 2 bedroom apartment. The rooms are lovely and the view of the ocean and the grounds are beautiful (notwithstanding the much-talked about crane next door). I learned that the crane has been there for 6-7 years now so I don't think any construction will be going on any time soon!
This was a fourth floor unit in the Palm building (P416). There were some issues (aren't there always?). Toine from Prestige Realty met us in the lobby when we arrived and went over everything we needed to know, giving us restaurant advice, and becoming our unofficial concierge. We had to call him quite a few times: the box spring on the king bed was broken, so one side was lower than the other. This was not acceptable. Well, the next day a couple of new box springs were delivered, problem solved. Then there were other minor issues (light bulbs blown out, safe not working due to battery dead, dishwasher detergent caked up from moisture, not enough paper towels, toilet paper...) But I must say, Toine and Rachel solved every problem and could always be counted upon to help.
Oceania was not very crowded; I think there was just one other occupied unit on our floor. The pool was often deserted, there was always a palapa available at the beach, so if you like peace and quiet, this is great. There was a washer/dryer in our unit, very helpful. There were plenty of beach chairs, but what this unit needs is something on wheels to tote them down to beach. We had to put the chairs in the car whenever we wanted to go the beach as the chairs are a bit heavy, but comfortable. There are chairs at the pool already.
We rented a car for the week which we used every single day. Explore Baby Beach, Natural Bridge (gorgeous), Lighthouse, Ostrich Farm (lots of fun), Phillips Zoo, the Aloe Factory (interesting!). The Bosch map Aruba was the best we could find, ordered it online before leaving home. Yet it's not perfect by any means. Aruba is in dire not of cars equipped with GPS! We got lost a lot, but never had an issue finding our way eventually. It's just harder in the dark.
As nice as Oceania was, though, I would opt next time for more of a resort with 24 hour staff and an on-site restaurant. The security at Oceania seemed pretty good, with the guards calling us first if someone wanted to deliver something to us. But other than the security staff, there was no one available save the realtors.
