“Heart of the Town, most of the town”

This hotel is on the Marina. I stayed in the towers. Meetings were at the convention center. Beautiful place. They took us to their private island on a boat that literally comes into the lobby. Pretty cool. Food was all quite good, not quite great. Service is as slow as traffic in Frisco. The folks not all as consistently polite as the resort area folks, but still quite nice.

Room Tip: This is likely a pretty pricey place. I didn't have to hoof the bill because it was work related...

We're here on our 21st Anniversary and it's beautiful everyone is so happy and pleasant to you. Our room is in the Marina part with a straight ocean view. We ordered the private dinner on the beach and Linda who I emailed her to death as we'll as talking to her on the phone she was always pleasant and helpful. Emily our private waitress was very nice & pleasant just wonderful this is worth your money they only do 1 a day. Emily went out her way to make sure our food was great and our private chef Marco Polo did a wonderful job food was excellent everything not 1 thing was bad I will be back next year for our Anniversary definitely I took a couple pictures to show you!

Just experienced another wonderful trip to Renaissance Aruba. The staff from arrival to departure were professional, friendly and couldnt do enough for you. The greatest is that most of them remember you (even though you only come down twice a year). The rooms have been recently renovated and are very pleasant and updated. All the staff from front desk, Blu lounge, Aquarius, LG Steak House, housekeeping, etc. are friendly and accomodating. Hope to go back real soon!!!

Room Tip: Room overlooking Aruba and ocean.

This hotel consists of 2 different hotels close to each other. We stayed in the Renaissance Marina Hotel.
Located in the heart of the city center, this modern hotel for guests of 18 years and older has everything you may expect from a 5 star establishment. Right under the hotel you can find dozens exclusive shops, a casino, a Starbucks and a good steak restaurant. The trendy lounge bar serves great cocktails. The swimming pool is located next to the bar and waiters serve you the drinks from the bar and delicious appetizers. The rooms are perfect and the beds are very comfortable. Needless to say: we enjoyed our stay very much!

One hotel, two locations. One is across the street and that one is on the beach. I stayed there. Beach and pools in your backyard. Really good bar food and drinks by the pool. As you lay out at the beach you can watch the huge cruise ships come into port. The other hotel is across the street and you can get on a boat IN THE LOBBY of the hotel and it takes you to the hotels PRIVATE ISLAND about 10-15 minutes away. It has a restaurant and two beaches. One is adults only and one is for families. All employees friendly and accommodating. This is a wonderful hotel and I highly recommend.

Room Tip: Get a room at the hotel located on the beach.

The thrill of the Renaissance Aruba is gone, but it does not mean you should not go. You just need to be aware of what it is now. This was our third visit to the Renaissance Aruba. Based on our recent visit, we are not sure why they are still calling themselves a Renaissance property. Being Marriott Platinum Premier members usually comes with some nice perks that are no longer available at this property. Everywhere else in the world, Marriott properties seem to bend over backwards. At this property, the standard answer is "we don't participate in that." No lounge, no breakfast, no free local calls, no room upgrade (although we were told we had one, if we did, I'd hate to see what the original room was - maybe the closet) and no late checkout. By the way, these were all things we actually had on our last visit (except the lounge) to this property. Not sure what has changed. The $h!t hit the fan when, after already being told no,no, no all week, we asked for a late checkout (from 12PM to 1PM) at the "Gold and Platinum Member Desk" the day before our checkout. We were told we would have to check in the morning of our departure. So we casually ask the guy what the purpose of the Gold and Platinum Member Desk is since they do not seem to honor any of the usual perks. The guy tells us they are not owned by Marriott, to which we replied, of course you are not, almost everyone under the Marriott banner is a franchise property now. So we asked why do you even call yourself a Renaissance? Just call yourself the Marina and Ocean suite Hotel. They did not seem to seem to understand and or care, so you just have to walk away. Next morning, can we get a late checkout? "That is not possible". All that to say, if you are a Gold, Platinum or Platinum premier member, go, just don't expect anything special.

The other non-Marriott aspect is smoking. All Marriott properties are supposed to be smoke free. There were signs everywhere at the Renaissance Aruba, but people just ignored the signs and smoked anyway. We never saw a staff person address the issue with any guest.

The hotel itself is essentially the same. The Marina portion has just been renovated. Nothing special, but it is new. The Ocean suites is currently under renovations. The Marina is an adults only hotel and the Ocean suites is family friendly. Our upgraded room is the smallest room we have had in our three visits. Basically a bed with enough room to walk around it. The bathroom doors have been replaced with a sliding frosted glass door. Not a fan.

The private island is no longer private as we were told people could buy a day pass for $100. The family side of the island has plenty of space and huts for shade. The adult side has relatively few huts and there are no umbrellas. The topless Dutch coeds have been replaced with the geriatric crowd, who, thankfully left tops on. The increase in air traffic in and out of Aruba has increased the noise pollution as well. We ended up moving to the Ocean suites beach for sunning. It was quieter and less crowded. There is also a manmade bridge at the Ocean suites with is the roof of the home for hundreds of fish. Drop some bread off the side and watch all the fish fight over the food. Better yet, snorkel under the bridge. No need to pay for a snorkel excursion.

The LG Steakhouse was excellent. The best meal we had on the island. While it was good, we'd discourage an all inclusive package. There are too many great restaurants in Aruba to be stuck eating at the hotel. Plenty of places to eat within walking distance and if you have a car, even better. Parking is free and there is one road to Palm Beach where you will find even more outstanding restaurants.

Still a good option for Aruba, but all in all, we have decided to try the Ritz next time.

Dear Sunforfungirl -

Good to hear that you enjoyed our LG Smith steakhouse inspite of multiple Restaurant option on the island. Indeed, at times it becomes rather difficult to extend certain elite additional courtesies & our appreciation due to high occupancy.
We do hope that you will consider Renaissance Aruba again in the future after the completion of the renovations of our Ocean Suites Tower which offers much more spacious rooms & which will be to your convenience.

Regards
