“The Tamarijn Aruba All Inclusive offered a fair value for the price.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 February 2011

This was our first time to Aruba and to an all inclusive. The staff at this resort were all
excellent and friendly. We did have a room far from the central area, which is great if you want quiet but it was far to walk for some things...like snorkel equipment. What we didn't like was that you had to have that equipment back by 5 p.m....if I had known that I would have brought our own, as it was inconvenient to walk all the way down there everyday. and I wanted to be able to snorkel whenever we wanted. I did ask for permission to keep snorkel equipment till the end of our stay, but they wouldn't allow it. They do have a constantly running shuttle and you can call for it when you need it. The food in the main dining area was all right ,with lots of choices and buffet style, but you do need reservations for the "specialty" restaurants, and they were mediocre. The furniture in our room was a little old and the bathrooms are too small, so they could use an update. They were in the process of renovatng some areas so you wouldn't want to have a room near that noise. ..request a room away from that! If you just want to be on a beach (it is beautiful) and want peace and quiet, then I recommend this as opposed to the "main" drag of hotels where it is very crowded. We did rent an SUV to tour the island and thoroughly enjoyed that!

Dear koliver337,

Thank you for taking the time to review the Tamarijn All Inclusive Resort on Trip Advisor.

I appreciate your kind words on the staff, and apoligize for the inconvenience with the snorkel equipment.

Your comments on the restaurant are well taken and we continuously try to improve our food offerings.

Indeed the Resort is in the process of updating all bathrooms; this will be completed by the end of this year.

I appreciate your recommendation as a great beach resort, and look forward to your return stay.

Sincerely,

Alex Nieuwmeyer

This was our first trip to the Tam.
Our room was clean and the view was to die for.
We stayed for ten glorious days.
Having the beach, the restaurants, and great service
made our stay perfect.
We loved being able to sit at the "Red Parrot' restaurant
and watch the beautiful sunsets.
if you go to the Red Parrot', ask for Vince for your server.
He made our night perfec,t and he is a pretty good picture taker too.
The grouper was delicious, as was the beef rib roast.
Don't forget to try the Dutch Onion soup for an appetizer!
As for the other people staying there......
We enjoyed meeting Burn and Marlene, the"Jersey Boys"
George, and many other wonderful people.
I would absolutely recommend this place,
and would go back in a heart beat!

To sum up my stay "location, location, location", the hotel is right on the beautiful beach!
Other reviewers complained about the all inclusive food and I have to agree the buffet is edible but not much more. However, we got around the steam table food by having made to order omlets for breakfast, having lunch at the bar/pizza place (they make a great club sandwich) and dinner at the Ginger (asian), Italian or Red Parrot in the sister resort Divi Divi.I got a great package price from Cheap Caribbean and paid about $120 per day for an all inclusive. You can't beat the price.

1st time at Tam for 10 days....amazingly run resort across the board in terms of check-in, room cleaniness, maintenance, bar and food service. We had a light burn out in bathroom and fuse blow in AC and they responded within minutes on both issues. We also had special dietary needs as my daughter has Celiac and the food manager Nick and Chef Sixto were amazing and so accomodating...that made our trip in and of itself. The bar staff were great and even though I tip, just treat them with respect and that goes much farther to getting service. We typically go 5 star when we travel however the reviews made us decide to go with the Tam and it was the right decision. If you love the beach and want to chill, this is the place to go. Kids programs are minimal so be prepared to entertain them yourselves however due to size and volume of families coming through, it is no surprise they don't invest in this area as much as the larger resorts...trust me, all the other plus factors compensate.

The place is really great - especially the beach is totally outstanding. The only negative is the room faciities at Tamarijn- the room at least the ones in building 1500 needs to be renovated but clean and OK but not more. Entertainment at Tamarijn and Divi was excellent as well as the food at the a la carte restaurants.

Stayed at the Tamarijn for a week at the end of January, and of course it was a wonderful break from the weather in New York City. We are an older couple, and in the interest of full disclosure we admit to being food snobs, so we don't expect good food at all-inclusive resorts, cruises, etc., and we are never disappointed. The Tam is a tired, low rise resort directly on a spectacular beach (with no snorkelling however). The management of the place leaves much to be desired. Many of the staff do not seem to have had the opportunity of much training. For instance, because guests are required to make reservations for the restaurants (if they wish to avoid the buffet), we waited in line at the reservation desk for half an hour (No, it didn't just seem like half and hour; it actually was half an hour.) while Louise (alone at the desk) helped a couple with very elaborate sightseeing plans and vouchers even though our reservation would have taken 20 seconds. The irony is that during the first few days of our stay, the computerized reservation system was down and the flow of guests to the restaurants worked just fine. A lot doesn't work at the Tam. Although the resort adverstises wireless, don't believe it. They also say that they monitor and deter the hording of the beach chairs under the shade palapas. They don't. And there are not enough to go around, so there is an early morning mad rush to claim these shaded spots, and some people selfishly monopolize them without using them. Outside our room, the same folks kept their t-shirts and towels on the chairs all night, every night, although they only used the spot for about an hour a day. There are lots more examples of shoddy management.. So why are we planning to return? The beach, the beach. We would open the sliding doors on our resonably-priced first floor room, walk four steps across the patio, and put our bare feet on to one of the lovliest, least crowded beaches in the Caribbean.

Just a quick tip. We like to snorkel, so after reading about the Octopus on Trip Advisor, we booked an afternoon trip hoping for a quiet, nature-centered sail and snorkel. No such luck. Our trip was crowded with a noisy gang that was more than three sheets to the wind. Curiously it was a different trip on a larger sailboat, the Palm Pleasure, that offered a more professional and knowlegable staff, much better facilities (you know what I mean), and better snorkel sites. (And also plenty to drink if that's your pleasure.) The Palm Pleasure costs more than the Octopus, but well worth it.

We love the Tam, we love the location, waterfront rooms, beaches, food and drinks. Every year the price goes up and we kind of expect that, what we don't expect is that the quality of the vacation goes down. Case in point, we used to get soaps with hotel names, now generic. Not that it is important to have soaps with the hotel's name but it is the smaller stuff that the resorts are scrimping on. Food and drinks are top quality from the tam to the divi. The wait staff and cooks are beyond reproach and are the most friendly in the world. The cleanliness is compromised. The service for other activities also compromised. The complaints we had were: 1, the cleaning staff always swept the outdoor lanai and wet mopped it too. not this time, 2, hair dryer did not work and no back up was available.3, drain plug was stopped up, 4, light fixture did not work, 5, locked out due to electrical system in key . Not being a petty person and realizing that it is probably the best beachfront location, we will return but we will always search for the best price. For top price, you get top service, if we are going to get not top service, we don't want to pay top price
