“Great Vacation at The Mill”
Reviewed 11 February 2010

We stayed at The Mill for two weeks (beginning January 23) and we had a great time! I cannot think of one problem we had during our stay. The room was ample size and clean, the pool staff, front desk staff and housekeeping staff were helpful and accommodating and we had no problems getting a spot at the beach (near the Westin). The Garden Cafe (the restaurant at The Mill) served a nice breakfast buffet and once we had the "Romantic Dinner for Two" for our anniversary. We picked the filet mignon and it was prepared perfectly!

Our children loved it at The Mill and especially enjoyed playing poolside Bingo, swimming in the pool, getting treats at the "convenience" store and meeting new friends.

The Mill is a great hotel and offers exceptional value in Aruba - we can't wait to return!

Someone told us a few years ago that this hotel was the best kept secret on the whole island. Well it should stay that way! We have been going to Aruba since 1995 twice a year & stayed at all different hotels & this is the worse one. It is not clean at all. I felt like there were bugs in the bed biting me. We slept ontop of the covers. They only make your bed every day. They really should condem this place & rebuild it. You couldn't pay me to stay there again. We hated to go back every night. It was our worse experience in Aruba. Trust me!

This was a very pleasant vacation. Although it was not an all inclusive for us, all Inclusive was available. There was a decent restaurant on site but many excellent restaurants within walking distance. The beach was a few minutes walk, across a
highway (very safe to cross) and we did appreciate the fact that The Mill was not one
of the high-rises you see along the beachfront. The room was very comfortable, we had our own jacuzzi tub, coffee maker/refrigerator and balcony with view of pool area.
Would definitely recommend this resort! M&B from Montreal

Heard that our Ving-guides went to all the hotels before our arrival and looked up every room. Great! Our stay at this hotel were more than OK.We had asked for a quiet room and also got it. Clean room, change of towels every time we choosed. Pool/beach-towels also changed every time we wanted. Those who liked staying in the pool/bar-area seemed to like it. We only slept and had our breakfast in the room. Then we walked down to the beach. The hotel has a place on the beach, but not the best. The sand blows in every direction, mostly at you. We walked up to Moomba beach where there are free yellow sunbeds to take. Close to the restaurant and the best bar on the beach. They also comes out to you and serve whatever you like to drink.

My friends and I just returned from 2 weeks at the Mill in Aruba. It was the worst place ever. Could not find a chair near the pool, because the person in charge of upkeep, claims chairs early in the morning for all his friends, could not get a free cup of cover after 7:00am..can you believe this..., never had a full set of towels in the bathroom, always missing something, face cloth, bath mat, hand towel., food at restaurant is the worst, and the people at the desk need some customer service training.

This is my second time staying at The Mill. My room was clean but the furniture felt antiquated. No tub in the bathroom ( 2 year olds really do not like showers). But the location is great, the staff is friendly. The front desk is slower than I am used to, but Aruba is laid back. You have a 10 minute walk to the beach which isnt to bad, and there a little shack with a guy/gal that brings you your chair and can call for the shuttle. The towels at the hotel serve two purposes. The first one to dry you, the second to exfoliate you. The towels are pretty rough. The mini market at the hotel is pricey, its worth the bus ride to the supermarkets in town to save some money. Over all, I would go back knowing what to expect. The location is great. The butterfly farm is a short walk away and its a one time admission fee and you can revisit it for as long as your trip is. WEAR SUNSCREEN AND REAPPLY OFTEN!! Aruba us a wonderful place!! Dont miss Depalm Island ( your own private island). Great for families!!! Great pool!! No fighting over lounge chairs. Enjoy!!!

We went back to Aruba x-mas week 2009. (We stayed at the Westin 3 years ago.) The Mill is across the street from the Westin - maybe 5 minutes walk.

We spent the first 4 days this time at the Marriott Stellaris, which was very nice (if you don't mind $15-20 for a simple lunch or breakfast). However, when the rate went up to $600/nite for x-mas, we moved to The Mill. So we are in a good position to compare.
Not as luxurious as the Marriott, but clean, friendly, nice, and a lot less crowded.
Room was large, though not quite as large as the Marriott.

We were both quite pleasantly surprised at The Mill. We had a "b" room (no balcony) - it faced the main road, but we did not hear road noise. Only complaint was the bathroom was a little small and not modern, and towels not as soft. But, we did have good hot water for the shower. We had daily breakfast for 2 included in our package (about $200/nite) - omelets cooked to order, french toast, bacon, sausage, fresh fruit, juces, coffee. Our special rate also included 1 dinner for two - we did x-mas dinner there - steak, ham, salads, veggies, chicken, dessert.
They also have an all-you-can-eat barbecue on Wednesday evenings - $20 each - that's a real bargain in Aruba!

An easy walk (5 minutes) to the beach (just go thru the Westin lobby). An easy walk to the "strip" - maybe 10 minutes. Also, a 10 minute walk to the Butterfly Farm (1 day's entrance will get you in free the rest of the week).

Lunch was almost a bargain at The Mill- you could certainly eat for $10 or less.

We also really enjoyed the pool - considering that it was x-mas, the pool was never crowded. We always got chairs (sun or shade, depending on what we wanted) - this was not true at the Marriott (where some days we were unable to get chairs in the shade). We did not have to tip anyone to get our pool chairs at The Mill (unlike the Marriott, where everyone had their hand out!). Two very clean pools. Every afternoon, they had Bingo in American and Spanish - we won some free beers and soda twice. They have an entertainer, who runs karaoke in the evening if anyone is interested - they are trying to make sure everyone enjoys themselves.

Most people were not Americans - most spoke Spanish. Frankly, they were a lot nicer and better-behaved than many Americans. Never any problems, fights, or animosity - just families out to have a vacation.

Almost everyone we dealt with (except one blond woman at the front desk) was extremely nice. Our room was cleaned and made up daily. Had a small kitchen with some pots and plates, fridge, stove, oven - we never used them, but it would have been helpful.

My husband is very picky, and he's happy to write a good recommendation for The Mill. Don't expect a glitzy lobby or fancy hotel. But, it was clean, kept-up well, and full of friendly people. Enjoy and save your money for dinner!
