“A Fine All-Around Choice”
Reviewed 4 March 2009

I didn't want a commercial place, nor an isolated one. This was an excellent choice for my first time stay and I'll be returning there this year (2009). The beach was outstanding. The hotel room clean, modern, and comfortable. And it's well placed as you don't need to go far for anything. The staff was friendly and accomodating.

I just returned from a week at Manchebo and had a lovely time. I wanted to avoid Palm Beach because it kind of has a 'Vegas' feel with the crowded high-rise hotels and all the shops etc. When I do a beach holiday, I like to be steps from the beach, not 10 stories above it...besides, Palm Beach is only about 2 km from the Manchebo's location on Eagle Beach.

The resort is definitely not 5 star, but it's comfortable, clean, and low-maintenance. The staff is nice and very helpful. The rooms are very simple, but clean. We stayed in room # 3 which was about 10 feet from the beach and 40 feet from the water. It was a great location.

The resort does not have room service but the restaurants are great. We ate breakfast by the pool every morning. The food was fresh and well prepared. We had lunch at the Pega Pega bar and most suppers at Georgio's. The pizza was bad, but the pasta was fabulous.

There's a pretty well stocked shop in the lobby that has everything you might need. The spa is fabulous!!! Great massages, manicures etc.

Overall, I would say the resort is a great value. It's got the nicest beach in Aruba and is a quick ride to Palm Beach or downtown Oranjestad.

Manchebo Beach has the benefit of being on a wonderful stretch of beach in Aruba. It's not the largest, or most sophisticated hotel in the area; but it's more than adequate.

We chose Manchebo because of the all good reviews here and a reasonable price. Stayed there 6 days in mid January. I don’t understand how everybody here finds the Manchebo staff so friendly and attentive. To me they were just ok, restaurant and bar staff even below average (more on this later) comparing with other islands and other resorts I’ve been to. While I agree that rooms are clean and decent size, and new furniture and flat screen TVs are a big plus, the hotel grounds need a little bit of work too. Everything looks very plain and old, there is nothing fancy about the pool or balconies or bar. If you decide to stay at Manchebo, for comparison, take a walk to the next door resort Bucuti to see what I am talking about. While I also agree that you go to Aruba for the beach, and the beach at Manchebo is awesome, I still found that Bucuti beach is better. We loved the food at Pirate’s Nest (can’t say that about Manchebo restaurants), and the drinks and atmosphere at the Bucuti bar. While I realize that Bucuti is more expensive, in retrospective I wish I paid more money and stayed next door. But if you are absolutely tight on budget and decide to stay at Manchebo anyway, here is my advice: don’t order Belgium waffles for breakfast at Giorgio’s unless you really like Matza and ready to pay $10 for it. And the manager had a nerve to come up and ask what was wrong with the waffles instead of expressing regret I didn’t like it, as any professional restaurant manager would do. And, when your drink is weak and a bartender tells you up front she has to charge you for an additional splash of rum, makes you think whether savings of a couple of hundred dollars really worth it. After all, you are on vacation for which you paid good money, so you expect to be treated accordingly, especially when you pay an automatically included service charge (no such practice at Bucuti) and leave a tip on top of it.

We stayed at Manchebo from 1/17/2009-1/23/2009 and are glad with the choice we made for our first trip to Aruba. Manchebo offered us just what we were looking for. A quiet place without the commotion and crowded beach of a high-rise resort. It is a simple hotel with basic amenities, the nicest staff and yes....the best beach you could find.

We stayed in room 44 and found that unless you plan to waste your vacation in your room, it really doesn't matter if you have rooms 46-48 or not. The best place to see the sunset is on the beach anyway. I would have preferred a ground level room for easy access since we were on the beach all day. Garden view wouldn't matter either. The only time I appreciated the view from my room was the short time between showering and going out to eat.

The hotel grounds can use a little more attention, an outlet in the bathroom and a little more water pressure in the sink would be nice but after the first day it won't mean much to you.

We did not have the All-inclusive since Aruba offers hundreds of places to dine. Instead we chose the AGA dine-around dinner plan. The breakfast at Giorgio's at Manchebo was NOT a value for the price paid. Too little food for too much money. The French steakhouse is overrated. I've had much better steaks elsewhere. We ordered ours medium and one came to us raw. I wouldn't mind getting the All-inclusive for the drinks but it would be a waste not enjoying the island's other restaurants. What I did was go to the supermarket up the road and bought a case of beer. If you like there is also a Dunkin Donuts for breakfast nearby and a Subway if you prefer a quick lunch.

The beach is spectacular. It's well kept with plenty of space between palapas. And the water....BLUE!!!! it's like being inside a brochure!! If you want lots of attention, fancy rooms, a beach with lots of people on top of one another, noise and kids.. then go elsewhere because Manchebo is what relaxation is all about. I walked along the beach plenty of times and came to the conclusion that not one of the other hotels has a beach that can come close to Manchebo's.

Would we go back? Absolutely!!

Subpar rooms, slow and unresponsive staff, bad food. Not worth it. Book next door at the Bacudi - same lovely beach but much better accomodations.

We stayed at Manchebo for 4 nights in December and had a great time. The beach and water were amazing and the resort was very quiet. The food was great also.

I would recommend this place to anyone that wants to relax. If you want activities and things for the kids to do, stay in the high rise section as there is always something going on all day.
