“Needs some upgrading”
Reviewed 6 December 2011

We have stayed at this resort before and we stayed 11-27 through 12-03-11 in the Ambassador Suites, room 1431. The rooms are going to be upgraded and this will be a good improvement in the overall facility. The rooms are all nice size and our housekeeper kept our room spotless. The facility houses 1-BR apts. over 4 floors.
Good things about the facility: the ambassador suites are like having your own private hotel. It is quiet, not really that busy, and the pool is generally being shared with 1 or 2 other couples. Being across from the Main building definitely has some pros as the Main Building is filled with lots of activity, kids, families, and the pools are crowded. The Beach area is very nice at the Main Building with plenty of chairs and a beautiful view. Beach area is clean, water was rough but there were many storms in the area so I can't truly give a negative score. If you don't like to walk a little ways to your beach area, the Ambassador suites are not for you. They just installed air purifiers and dehumidifiers in the rooms and it has made a drastic improvements in the air quality since the last time we stayed here. Pool staff is always attending to the pool areas every morning and you felt good going into the pools/spas with no concerns. View from the room was very good as well.

Needs improvement: Staff at the front desk are not friendly and not very accommodating. The bed in our room was probably the most uncomfortable bed I have slept on away from home ever. It was terrible. The pillows were like pancakes. It made my back ache for most of the trip and that is probably why I am only giving an average overall rating. It was significant enough to me that it dampened my enjoyment in Aruba due to pain.

Overall, I would hesitate to recommend to go back until I saw some of the improvements made prior to my stay.

I have stayed at the CDM every year for over 10 years. It is in the low rise section. I appreciate the quiet enviornment and pleasant staff. The food at the onsite restaurant is also excellent. I highly reccomend it!

Room Tip: Ocean viewing room.

Very nice property. first time staying here and very happy. wouldnt hesitate to recommend and would stay here again. Beautiful view from the 5th floor but there were issues with the ceiling leaking . Not a good combination with water and tile floors. close enough to enough restaurants

Nice property, friendly staff; great happy hour at Matthews Beachside Bar and Grill. Main building is nice and convenient with large pool and beach. All one bedroom units are across the street, not close to beach, and need updating. Matthews Restaurant (on Property) is good, not outstanding.

Room Tip: Stay in main building; ask for an updated room. Rooms close to Matthews bar can be noisy from 9-11...

Just got back from casa del mar from my honeymoon. I checked reviews before I stayed and must say they are pretty much right on. It was a nice place and matthews bar restaurant was very good and really enjoyed breakfast there especially the French toast yummy. If I stayed again i would opt for the presidential suite in the main building.

I've been going to Aruba since I was 12 and have stayed at Casa del Mar and many hotels around the island. For me, Casa del Mar is just perfect. It was perfect for me as a teenager, and all through my twenties and it's still perfect now that I go there with my own small children.

The beaches are endless and the waters are sparkling clean. This timeshare hotel is with the low rise hotels which suits my vacation style better. It's quieter, has more room - a peaceful paradise. If you're looking for more action like parasailing, waterskiing, banana boat rides, you can visit the high-rise hotels.

Our suite in the presidential wing has two bedrooms (one king, and two twin beds), two baths, a kitchen with full-size appliances, dining room and a livingroom with fold-out couch and terrace overlooking the ocean. It's literally steps from the beach, pool, and pina coladas.

Some other reviewers talked about beach erosion. In all my years visiting, the beach is never the same size from year to year - it's just mother nature doing her thing. Some years it's enormous, some years smaller, some years bigger waves, some none at all, but no matter what, it's always amazing.

The buildings are in very good condition and the cleaning staff is top-notch - as in you don't have a single grain of sand on the smooth, clean tile floor once they're through. The decor in the rooms is a little "Golden Girls", but with the amazing ocean views from most of the suite, you hardly notice it. There are zero bugs inside.

One more note on the staff. Last time I was there I fell and broke my foot on my 2nd day! Talk about bad luck! Security literally came running over in an instant and everyone from the front desk to security to the restaurant staff to - well, everyone, guests included - went out of their way to make sure I was looked after for the rest of the trip. They even drove me to/from the hospital and loaned me a wheelchair and crutches. Don't repeat what I did, but know that if you do have bad luck, the people of Casa Del Mar will help you out.

Room Tip: The Presidential Suites are the way to go. Ocean View, steps from the beach, bar and pool.

Casa Del Mar is in the low rise section of Aruba and is a beautiful hotel. Rooms were clean, staff were very friendly and helpful. Short walk to the pool, lobby, outdoor bar and beach. There were all ages at this resort. Happy hour 3 times per day and all you can eat ribs tues night. Wed night is karoke night and whether you sing or watch it is a very fun evening and is packed. Lots of fun all ages. I would recommend this hotel and would happily stay there again. Don't forget to go to the attached hotel Aruba Beach Club to enjoy their pool and amenities also and the Silver store in the Aruba Beach Club has the best silver prices in Aruba! Highly recommended.
