We recently purchased a two-bedroom suite at CDM and with last year's useage banked, were able to stay for two weeks this July. (4-18) We were more than pleased with our resort. The Presidential Suites were roomy and well equipped. Maid service was excellent and everything was in good to excellent working order. The pools were spotless and everyone was friendly and helpful. It was easy to see why so many folks own multiple weeks here and next door at Aruba Beach Club, the sister resort.
There is a strong sense of family in this wonderful place.
Matthew's Restaurant is on site, providing good food and drink with both food and entertaiment specials throughout the week. Tortuga Grille next door may be the best kept secret on the island
for great food at super prices. Many nice places nearby as well. Pizza Bob's was fun. The French Steakhouse is back to the old glory days. The Promenade was a wonderful, different night of appetizers-as-dinner.
The beaches are returning after some winter storm damage. CDM's was narrow to the south but all of Eagle Beach was expanding as you walked north.
Casa del Mar was a wonderful destination on a wonderful island. We are counting the days until our return visit next July

Just got back yesterday from Casa Del Mar. Two bedrm suite was great - lots of room. Pool is great, it's right on the beach, which is just steps from the pool, bar and restaurant. We stayed here because of a time-share exchange. It is in the "low rise" area. Problem is - the hi-rise area is where all the action is. Or, in the city there are also some things to see. Here you are between both, and cannot walk to anything. So the resort is great, but next time I would stay closer to the restaurants, activitites...etc. Although, the drive to either hot spot is only 15 minutes, so if you don't mind driving and parking it isn't a big deal.
We used the resort sponsored activities desk to book many tours and a dinner. The jeep tour we wanted was offered thru a different company. Lennie looked at our flyer and insisted on booking it. Now, we spent a lot of money here on the tours she sponsored. We found out when we arrived at the jeep tour, and went to pay, that we where not entitled to the discount because Lennie got the commision! We thought she was just trying to be helpful. They seemed to know her at the jeep tour and said "She is a very clever lady". I thought that was pretty poor treatment.
One other general Aruba comment...EVERYTHING closes at 6pm (except bars, restaurants and casinos). So for a family who likes to spend the days in the sun or seeing the attractions, then after dinner visiting the stores...they won't be open. But if you like to gamble (we don't) you'll love it.
Weather was awesome all week!

We travelled to Aruba with our young twins and had a fantastic time. The employees were extremely friendly and the other guests were enjoyable. I did notice that many people travel there year after year and so it is a true family away from home. We exchanged into the resort and will definitely return some day soon. We had a pool and ocean view on the 5th floor. We even had daily maid service which was a shock in the timeshare industry these days. We ate at Texas de Brazil Casa Tua, Smokey Joes, Moomba Beach and Cleos Bar food (take out) and the resorts own Matthews Restaurant. None were a disappointment. The only change to this place would maybe be an upgade on the mattresses.. They needed a bit of help. Aruba is a bit pricey so bring your money and liquor is not very cheap.. Maybe at the airport.. Beer is very expemsive. Their local beer is just as expensive. We rented a car from downstairs (quick and easy) We went to Ling and Sons for groceries.. An awesome trip and cannot wait to go back

This was our first trip to Aruba, and we were advised by friends to stay here. We were also advised to make reservation through either Jacobi Lopez or Aislinn de Cuba, and we are glad we did this directly with these folk via Email. They are quality people. It was a pleasure to meet them when we arrived.
We stayed in the Ambassador building which is across a small street from the main buildings of the facility. It was very quiet both in the rooms and around the pool. We had a choice of sunning and swimmng at a pool at our building, a larger one across this small street, another at the connected Aruba Beach Club next door or the beach.
The one bedroom suite was furnished ok for us and it was very clean. The quality of the kitchen items was very good, and there was a nice breeze on the balcony. Daily housekeeping was very thorough.
Compared to other places on the island, this is laid back. During the 10 days that we were there, most of the guests were older. School vacation was over. There is the advantage of two small stores on the property, although a super market visit is necessary if you plan to cook in at all. The restaurant, Matthews, was good for an occasional breakfast, lunch or dinner. We enjoyed many restaurants on the island because we had a car. I do suggest car rental through Mr. Lopez.

We came here by way of my vacation club Global Connections. It is such a nice place and very kid friendly. It is very quiet and relaxing. This is not a party place. There is some fun during happy hour like bingo and some musical entertainment. Things shut down pretty early aound 7 o'clock. The beach is nice and the sister property Aruba Beach Club has a nice kiddie pool and resteraunt. We spent half of the time on their property. We were in the Ambassador 1 bdrm suites, and it was so clean and comfortable. It is located just across the beach. There was still a nice view of the ocean but not beach front. I rented a car the first day to tour the small island and to by groceries for the week. There is a supermarket a couple of miles away and shouldn't be too bad to take a cab 5 minutes. The ride to or from the airport will be about $20 US. It takes about 20 minutes. We were able to check in a little early because the room was ready. I would go back again because it is good for families.

My husband and I did an RCI exchange to CDM and thoroughly enjoyed it even though the beach has been eroded by Omar. Regardless, it was beautiful and great for body surfers or those who just choose to lay back and relax in the lightly rolling waves. Numerous huts are down but the resort is in the process of putting them back into the sand. Not much for snorkeling at this beach, but there are plenty of other places to do that.
We had a one-bedroom which are not beachfront but a short stroll across the street. The Ambassador Building is closer the Duncan Donuts, Subway and the Casino if you choose not to each all of your meals at Matthew's (the resort bar and restaurant) or in town. The Ambassador rooms are a little outdated, but since we didn't spend much time there, we got over it (not exactly what we are used to but it worked). We understand the two-bedroom units were much better, so we will try that the next time we can go there.
Since we just returned, there are still problems with the electricity as one of the two main transformers on the island was destroyed by the storm. Specialists from Holland are supposedly there trying to fix the problem, but in the meantime, the resorts are asked to conserve energy usage. No real problem though.
My husband and I travel to learn the history and see the places we visit, but if you just want to relax and enjoy the tropical beach and resort amenities, you'll have a great time. Since everyone is on vacation, and the staff knows it, it's just wonderful. This is not a wild party resort, at least not during our visit, but one that you can relax and enjoy one or any of the 3 happy hours a day or the other many recreational events going on (kids and adults). The majority of the guests were middle to elder in age, with a third being 30 somethings. Any children were under the age of five but very few. Since this is not the height of the season for them, it was not difficult to find a hut at the beach in the morning, unlike prime time.
This resort is very clean and we would definitely go there again.

My wife and I were looking for a relaxing island vacation, we chose Aruba and the Casa del Mar. We were very pleased with both.

The resort:
We traded for a 2 bdr unit through RCI. Check-in was uneventful except for two things: they really stick to the 4:00 check-in time and there was a $14/day energy charge (which was actually listed in the RCI fine print for this resort which I failed to notice).

The 2 bdr/2 bath unit was spacious and very clean, everything in working order. Kitchen could use updated appliances but this was not a big deal for us. The 2 bdr units are directly on the beachfront but our building ran perpendicular to the water, giving us a "sideways" ocean view. Unit had a nice balcony for morning coffee and afternoon cocktails. Units are cleaned (very well) daily. Pool was decent size with many mini-palapas to get breaks from the sun. We saw a lot of chair-saving but we never had a problem getting chairs of our choice. The pool bar/restaurant (Matthews) was great for lunch or dinner and had three 2 for 1 happy hours every day. The beach was awesome, very wide white sand with plenty of huts/chairs. We would take daily morning walks, you can literally walk for miles toward Palm beach. The beach definitely gets top billing here. Location wise, the resort is adjacent to Alhambra Casino (halfway between town and the hi-rise area). We rented a car (a deal at $150/week), parking at the resort was simple.

The island:
It's been several years since we visited Aruba. We loved the beaches in the past but thought the island could use more development (particularly restaurants). We were pleasantly surprised by the new shopping and dining areas at the hi-rise end of island. This gives you two night-time destinations (downtown and the hi-rise area). We ate at these restaurants and give these marks:

Smokey Joes- A
Alfredo's - B+
Casa Tua - A
El Gaucho - A++
Salt and Pepper -B+
Suisse Chalet - A+
Bob's Pizza- B-

Weather was perfect, no rain the entire week. Every day was 90 degrees and sunny.

We highly recommend Aruba and the Casa del Mar.
