We are 45 year old married couple who like night life. We have traveled throughout Caribbean – Aruba 7 times, Cancun 3 times, Play del Carmen twice, Bahamas twice, San Juan once, Dominican Republic once and we have been on 2 cruises. Stayed in Aruba 10/13-10/18/11(thurs-tues). Direct flight down on Jet Blue. We were through customs and had our luggage within 40 min. Hotel is in the high rise Palm Beach area 15 min ride from airport. We rented a car from Hertz (outside airport across from where buses pick you up) that we planned to drop off at the Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino the next day. All the hotels have some car rental company in their lobby so you don’t have to go all the way back to the airport to return the car.
HOTEL/CONDOS – This is a timeshare property that has the Mariott Resort and Stellaris Casino hotel on one side and the Mariott Surf Club timeshares on the other. It is at the very end of the high rise hotel zone as you head toward the California Lighthouse end of island. There is however a new Ritz-Carlton being built on the other side of the Marriott Resort Stellaris hotel. This is our second stay at this property.
ROOM –Rooms in this property are either 1 or 2 bedroom suites with full kitchen and living room. We had a 1 BR suite and really love it. If you are looking to save some money on breakfast/lunch and drinks throughout the day this is the way to go. On our way from airport we stopped at supermarket and picked up all our supplies before getting to hotel. Porter’s help you load up all your luggage and groceries and bring it right to your room. Check in took 10 minutes. Nobody else waiting to check in. Had breakfast/lunch and all the drinks we wanted right out of our full service kitchen. King size bed in MBR was very comfortable. 2 flat screen TV’s (BR and LR) and a DVD player in LR. Also each floor has a room with 4 washer/dryer units for your use for free.
GROUNDS - Very nice. Pool area is free form and rather large. A lot of chairs around the pool area, chairs have umbrellas. There is a large Jacuzzi in the middle of the pool area that is secluded. Swim up bar and restaurant are adjacent to where beach starts. Lots of Palapas. This property rents some of the palapas. Go to the towel hut and they have a diagram of all the huts. About 60% of them can be reserved and 40% are first come first serve. Ocean front row is $15/day all rows behind that $10/day. We did reserve for 3 of the days we were there but based on the amount of people who were there at this time we did not need to. Sept/Oct are the slow months for Aruba. Towels are free just must give them your room number. Palapas are nicely spaced out compared to some of the other properties we walked passed each morning as we walked the beach from our end all the way to the Westin, which is at the beginning of high rise section. We brought our own cooler/drinks to the beach every day. There was waiter service but it is very sporadic compared to other properties/islands we have visited. Beach is beautiful with just a small area of small rocks right at the shore when entering water. Water is crystal clear.
RESTAURANTS – we did not order from the Ocean café beach front restaurant. We did go to the Champions Sports bar to watch football (PATS) on Sunday. Great TV viewing for all sports. They have the Direct TV NFL package so all games available. They do good job of seating all fans of same team in same area so as to better be able to organize TV’s to the proper games. Food is ok-good. Typical US bar food fare..wings/burgers/salads. Full line of beers available. Service was good.
DRINKS – as with all of ARUBA every liquor you could want they have. At this hotel they had local beers, balashi/polar, Coors light, bud light, Heineken, amstel bright. Drinks are expensive. If staying in a condo with kitchen buy bottles of your favorite liquor or beer and save money that way.
LOCATION - Hotel is in high rise section, palm beach. This area has really been built up and there is a large shopping/nightlife/entertainment(Palm Beach Plaza/The Village/South Beach Mall) area across the street from the beach starting at the Holiday Innand going all the way down to the Riu. It is a 5-7 min walk from this property to holiday inn and the start of the shopping mentioned above. You can either walk the beach or you have to walk out on the sidewalk of the street that you drove in on. It is still a cab ride away to get to the grocery stores which are half way between high rise section and the airport. They are in the process of building a new grocey store a lot closer to the high rise section. For a fun night out go to Sopranos piano bar in the shopping mall mentioned above.
Off site dining we ate at Passions on the Beach (across from Amsterdam manor)/ Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse(in the Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino hotel)/Hard Rock Care.
Both Passions on the Beach and Ruth’s Chris I have written reviews on in tripadvisor and highly recommend both.
Hard Rock café is like all other hard rock’s throughout the world.
