We stayed at the Ocean Club for one week, just back.

First impression is that, if not an Owner here, there is little time or consideration
to you.
Being a Marriott Platinum Member means nothing to them, and we got the feeling,
as Renters from Owners, that we did not matter. The fact that we turned
down going to a timeshare presentation only added to that we believe,

We have stayed at The Surf Club, next door, several times, and also at the Stellaris
Hotel, at other side.

Up front, we are a couple in late sixties, and were looking for rest and relaxation,
in a nice environment.
We had emailed twice in advance, requesting a high floor, but at check in, were
asked if we were Renting, as our names were different than on file, and we were
given a room on the 2nd floor.

So, as I see it, first the Pros....

The apartment was very nice and clean. Bed very comfortable, and unit was
spacious, perfect for two of us. It had a full size fridge, cooker, and dishwasher, a dining room table etc., it also had a balcony and two chairs.

The swimming pool was open and looked very nice,

Cons -

There is no point asking for a special room, you will be told at check in what you
can have and thats it,
Our room was so noisy every afternoon, from about 2.30pm to 5pm every single
afternoon, the noise started. First, Bingo is blasted out, through a loudspeaker,
and you better like Bingo, because you will hear it on the Beach, in the Pool and
most annoyingly, in your bedroom.

This is followed immediately by loud, thumping music, blasted out, day after day,
in the same areas, so, if it is peace and rest you want, you will not get it
here.

Check in area was temporary, with loud drilling going on, and it was very hard to
even hear check in agent, there is construction noise going on all the time,
and I do not know when that will end.

we had to have our room available from 10am to 5pm another day, to have the deck
railing inspected, for the timeshare improvements, so that was another day lost
for resting,

Palapas - as a Renter, you must pay per day to have the use of a Palapa, they are
free to Owners but not to Renters. We feel this is not fair, we paid fair money
to get to Aruba, to rent accommodation, and it is annoying to have to pay for a
bit of shade.

In general, we love Aruba, it is a safe and wonderful Island. Food is expensive and
so is eating out, La Vista, at the Marriott, is a nice buffet, but it is $39.99 p.p.
most nights, going to $69.99 when they have lobster.
A simple dinner for two will cost about $100, wherever you go, no drinks or dessert
included in that,

Taxis have increased in cost too, quite significantly, over the last year or two,
something to be aware of.

the beach area is now a bit rough, water shoes would be recommended, as it
had a lot of stones, not apparent on previous trips

We traveled with 10 people to Aruba and we all stayed in villas at the Marriott Aruba Ocean Club. Although the pool at the resort was being renovated, we were given access to the pools at the adjoining Marriott properties. The beach was within minutes of our resort as well. We loved being able to visit all four of the Marriott properties and have to give special thanks to Yaneka, the front desk person who checked us in when we arrived. She somehow found out that we were in Aruba to celebrate my birthday, and when we came back one night, we found a birthday note, a small chocolate cake and a bottle of champagne. I cannot thank Yaneka enough for making my birthday in Aruba a memorable one.

Another great stay at the Ocean Club.. despite the construction in the lobby and having to walk down the stairs or navigate the elevators that didn't stop at the lobby it was perfect. Renovations to the pool we're done but can't really tell what they did was hoping they would upgrade the pool bar as it needs a little love.
The Sands Eatery restaurant really needs a new menu it's been the same for several years.
Activities by the pool are fine but really need an upgraded playlist of songs as it's the same every day.
Rooms are the same as always but I heard they are renovating them in 2019 which will be great can't wait to come back next year thanks again for a great vacation.

Looking for something close . One in party wanted hamburger so we tried champions at ocean club. Lobby construction made it difficult to access. Service was alright, but it was not busy at the time. Two of us had the blackened fish sandwich which was swaii fish, inexpensive. Somewhat greasy but very spicy. Two ordered hamburgers which were dry . The two who had fish experienced stomach illness that night and next day. Will not return as cost vs quality and service was not acceptable.

This was my 4th trip over the course of 8 years. I have noticed a few changes for the better and a few instances of 'apathy' which really surprised me on this Aug 2018 visit. It is nice to see s few of the same staff members that have been there on each trip. Rooms are pleasant, they are beginning a renovation of the lobby, 9/18 and then are supposed to be renovating the guest rooms in 2019. I will come back here at least one more time to see the changes and see if they brought the property back to a 4.5/5.

Room tip: Higher rooms keep you from hearing all the activities at the pool.
