Please reconsider staying at this resort! Reserving a palapa at 6 am, only to come back to find someone else sitting there is NOT my idea of a relaxing vacation!!!! Management did NOTHING to rectify the situation!! Truly a nightmare try to reserve your place on the beach!!!! NOT WORTH IT FIND A DIFFERENT RESORT!!!!!!

DiviResorts, General Manager at Divi Aruba Phoenix Beach Resort, responded to this review, 14 April 2014
Having reviewed your commentary on your recent stay with us, we’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for notifying us of your observations. As a resort dedicated to providing superior customer service, we continually strive to best serve our customers during their stay with us at Divi Aruba Phoenix. When our efforts fail to meet expectations, it is important that the matter to be brought to our attention so that it can be corrected as soon as possible. And you did this and our management team actually did everything it could to rectify the situation for you.

Our team explained the hut policy to you and then offered you and your guests another hut, hut #77 to which one of the ladies in your party started insulting our employees and said she wanted to check out. Our team tried to find out if you and your party were having other issues besides the palapa policy, but it seemed that this was the only reason. Ramon then found hut #15, which had a better location than your previous one, and it was offered to your party, but you all refused it and threatened to leave bad reviews. However, according to our records, you did end up under a hut even though it was not your “preferred” hut. We hope this was to your liking.

Despite not being pleased with our resort and the way it treated you, we do hope that the remainder of your stay on island was pleasant enough and that you were able to return home with favorable memories of your stay on Aruba.

This was our second trip to the Divi Phoenix. We rented a spacious condo ocean side in the tower from an owner. It had a great view of the shore all the way up to the light house. The pools and outdoor facilities were outstanding. The beach was especially nice. While the lobby, outside, pools, beach, and restaurants were very nice and our rooms were spacious, we were disappointed in some aspects of our rooms. There were ants in the kitchen. We called the desk immediately, but we never saw anyone come and do anything about them. There was a very noticeable musty smell in the bedroom. Our clothes and bed felt damp the entire time we were there. The furnishings looked shop worn and in need of updating. The finish was worn off one of the kitchen cabinets. There was no trim around the bottom of the bathtub. There was no light in the shower, so it was very dark trying to wash yourself. The dim light in the bathroom was not good for putting on makeup. The Divi Phoenix looks gorgeous from the outside, but our rooms needed updating and maintenance. As far as customer service, that was also a mixed experience. The concierge was very friendly and helpful, but the main desk - not so much. We had already been on the island for a few days before moving to the Divi Phoenix. We contacted them by email and asked if it was possible for us to check in earlier than the 4:00 time since we had to leave our other location by 11:00 am. We never received a reply. When we arrived there, I explained the situation to the staff at the desk. They didn't seem to care. They told us to store our luggage and wait until we were notified that the room was ready. They guarantee check in by 4:00, but since check out is 10:00am, we felt they could have accommodated us earlier. It was after 4:00 when I went back to the desk and asked when our room would be ready. Miraculously, it had just became available.

Room Tip: Rooms on the beach side at the top of the tower have an incredible view.

Had fun in Aruba as we went with another couple and shared a timeshare, and no matter where we would have been with them, we would have had fun. We had a one bedroom with two bathrooms, however, the 2nd bathroom did not have a shower/tub and we had to take turns using the shower. No big deal, but the pull out couch was the worst we have EVER slept on. We were in the tower and the springs and mattress had to be really old. The first night was horrible, so the second night we put all the cushions in the room on the floor and put the mattress on top of them and slept like that. Not perfect, but much better. Not sure what the cleaning schedule is or should be for the rooms, but the only thing we got most days were towels and we had to leave a note to make sure we got enough towels for four adults. We were thrilled when the floors were swept one day, as it was super windy while we were there and we had sand on everything.

Great view from the tower and the elevators were always quick, but the air conditioning was hard to regulate. Turned it way down one night as we were freezing, and at midnight got a call from the front desk wondering if everything was ok as our room was registering warm. Prices in the store for snacks were no more than the grocery store, and the deli had good prices for their tasty sandwiches.

We walked the beach every day and it seemed like the Holiday Inn was more centrally located with stores and shops. But not sure how quiet in the evening and the Divi Phoenix was quiet in the evenings, and we liked that. Ate at Pure Beach and Pure Ocean and both meals were very good, but boy is the food in Aruba expensive! And if you take a cab to the grocery store and put your bags in the back, they charge you an additional $2/bag on to your fare.

Getting a palapa (little hut) to stay out of the sun was not very difficult. But it did seem like others liked the drama and wanted to make sure they had the same spot every day. I know they call Aruba "One Happy Island," but overall, the locals I observed did not seem that happy. Towel lady was crabby every day, we asked for an additional blanket for the room and it was a big deal, and any stores you go into to shop, you are followed around by a staff member, and it is very unnerving. I could only assume Americans have been very rude overall and steal from the shops because it just felt like they wished we would just go home.

10th anniversary trip and 1st visit to Aruba - could not possible have chosen a better resort in Aruba. Thought I had booked just a room - wonderful surprise, it was a 1 bedroom condo, with 2 baths. Great location, quiet but within walking distance of restaurants, activities, shopping, casino, short drive to best snorkeling spots. Very clean resort, excellent condo, bed, view, amenities and staff. Best pillows of any resort/hotel ever. Ate at both restaurants on site - dinner on beach at sunset at Pure Ocean was really outstanding - staff and food/drinks were excellent, and late lunch at Pure Beach was also very good - recommend their fish of day special. Prices in line with "like" restaurants. Happy Hour each day was fun, good drink specials. Concierge very helpful. We had no problems getting hut when we wanted - but generally went snorkeling/sightseeing in am/early pm, and hit beach later in day. Overall, excellent vacation spot.

Our friends have a time share at this resort and we traveled there on February 8-15. I can't say enough about the Divi Phoenix Aruba. The resort is immaculate and the staff is very friendly. We stayed in a studio lockout and our friends had a 1 bedroom next door. The room was beyond comfortable with a balcony overlooking the pool and a view of the beach. The bartenders were friendly and the food delicious! We took a snorkeling trip and when the trip was over and we were returning to the hotel, we couldn't find a cab. This distance is not far, but my husband has some health issues and a complete stranger who worked at a bar on the beach offered to drive us back to the Divi Phoenix and mentioned that his wife worked there and loved it. We can't wait to go back again and again.
