This was the third time we stayed at the Surf Club. It's a great location -- and always nice to have extra space when traveling with kids. We had a 2 bedroom, ocean side. Plenty of room for 3 children (ages 7, 11 and 14) and two adults. Prefer a view on the Ocean Club side (this year we had Pool Side -- which still has an ocean view, but has more noise). Only complaint is the system for tagging chairs (reserving them) and reserving palapas on the beach. It seems to me that lots of people "tag" chairs around the pool but then don't sit in them (either they go elsewhere on property or are in the fabulous lazy river and just reserving chairs in case they want to come back to them). I think the standard "if there is stuff on a chair" it is occupied. Way too hard to know if a chair simply has a tag and a towel whether it is really being occupied or not. And the convoluted palapa policy is also a bit ridiculous. No matter, we end up going to other beaches most of the time as Palm Beach is very crowded. On another note, we did call for maintenance twice about a tub faucet that broke off, creating a geyser in the master bedroom. No one came to fix it or clean up the mess. Perhaps because it was our last night in the room? There were also a few very minor issues with the room (6919) that hotel might want to attend to (door to living room balcony and door to dishwasher stick horribly). All in all, though, another fantastic time! Make sure to bring rafts/tubes for lazy river (or place your luck in finding a discarded one near elevator banks -- especially on Saturdays/Sundays which are busiest check-in/check-out days).

Room Tip: Lighthouse Tower is closest to beach. Higher floors have best views.

This was our first trip to Marriott Surf Club and our first time to Aruba. The property is well maintained and very accommodating for families. We were in a 2BR/2BA villa and it was fantastic. Would be great if we could have cleaning service everyday, but that comes at an extra cost. The housekeeping staff came only 1 day of our trip (we were there for 8 days/7nights). The pool and lazy river is FANTASTIC for kids, along with the slide. Beach was well-maintained, but renting the palabas is a chore. The process needs to be altered and better maintained. Getting chairs by the pool needs to be enforced as well. The policy is to be there by7am to reserve your chairs, but if you are no back within 2 hours, your chair tags are removed. Well, there were chairs sitting there FOREVER and no one ever came to remove the tags. When we asked about it, the staff did not have much of an explanation. All in all, it was a great trip and we will be going back to this property again next year. We purchased a vacation investment into Marriott.

We have timeshares in Hawaii and this island compares very favorably. We found the island delightful and interesting. Bert, our DePalm Tours driver/guide was very good and informative. We would recommend the bus tour as soon as you can on arrival if this is your first time on the island.
The beaches are beautiful, but snorkeling seems somewhat limited. The best was off the Pirates boat, and the nearby beach is accessible by car. The Baby beach was beautiful, but not ideal for snorkeling.
We were in the Compass building with a room directly over the lobby on the second floor(lowest floor for rooms). We were privy to most of the noise of a lobby, mostly crying children. BUT, offsetting that was Violette's beautiful singing as she did her cleaning in the lobby. The staff says most customers enjoy her voice while she works. In fairness, there was a poor communication of our preferences when the website did not actually send them through. That very well may account for our poor room selection. We had a great view of a parking lot next door and the taxi lane. Thankfully it wasn't ugly, but we had hoped for a better view of Aruba. This was our only disappointment, and we aren't prepared to blame the staff. The staff was universally great.
The onsite 'pool park' was the highlight for our 7 year old grandson. It starts with a pool with a water slide that transitions into a lazy river. Then, to a pool with the swim up bar. Continuing on is the path to the beach and ocean. The activities for the kids are great. Take full advantage of them.
We found Lings to be a good place for groceries, but the closer Super Market is good also. The in store little cafeteria has quite good food for a very good price.
The horseback riding is not for beginners as the horses seem somewhat independent minded.
After the first three days we turned in the car and used taxis. The car was about a $100 a day and taxis are $25(per car, not person) from the airport and less for closer locales. The drivers will return to pick you up at your destination if you give them a time to be there. Our experience with the drivers was very good all around. We could do what we wanted for less than the car rental costs.
Overall, we really liked the island and especially the Marriott Surf Club. It is adjacent to the Ocean Club, and then the Casino. All the restaurants and shops are within walking distance for all to use.
Last thought, give the recommend time for customs and it will be fine. The agents responded well to courtesy from the traveler and having the needed paperwork ready for them both entering and departing. Do give at least 2 hours or more when leaving.

Room Tip: Start early to ensure they have your preferences. If asked for your preferences a second time, it m...

We've been coming for the passed 5 years and couldn't be happier. The staff is always on top of they're game and couldn't be friendlier. Our housekeeper Hermelinda is one of the nicest people you will ever meet and does a spectacular job. And on top of her high quality of cleaning it was nice to have conversations with her and talk about the island and other things. Anything we ever need is just a phone call away and they will accommodate. The concierge is very very helpful with anything you need reserved whether it is dinner or some type of excursion. If you're contemplating purchasing a timeshare in other resorts around the island like we did when we first bought I would suggest you go for the surf club with all of the great amenities. LAZY RIVER!

A family of four with a 10 and 14 year old stayed in a 2 bedroom for a week in August. This is great place for families to stay. There is lots of room in the units and the kitchens are great. The staff is beyond friendly. The facility has three pools and a lazy river that is very popular. One of the pools is an adult only pool. The pools can be a little crowded but that will probably change once the kids go back to school. The food on the resort is definitely too expensive. But, everything on the island is expensive. Even public buses are expensive ($2.25 per person from hotel to downtown). So, depending on the number of people you have, this is one time that it makes sense to take taxis over the bus (if there are 4 or more in your party, it makes sense to take taxis). We have traveled the Carribean and this has to be the most expensive island where we have stayed. Definitely use the kitchen. All in all the facility is nice. My boys really enjoyed the video game room in addition to the pools. The most disappointing thing is that the beach area is relatively small. There is not a lot of space to throw a football or a frisbee. The beach water is always calm which is great for those who don't want waves but not so great for those who do. A few other things to note:

1. There is a nice grocery store called Super Foods that is a $9 taxi ride from the hotel. Warning, the grocery store closes at 5pm on Sundays.
2. Tubes (for the lazy river) are available for purchase at the gift store for $8. I recommend buying this in the states and bringing it with you. I saw many people with the floaties you can sit in and wished I had done the same thing.

I stayed one week at the Surf Club. The rooms were clean and tolerable for the week. I did have a problem with the toilet. I knew there had to be issues since there was a plunger next to it. I had to use it 3 times during the week. Also when I first started putting away some of my toiletries in the cabinets, I found a dirty, used Q-tip laying in one of them. I didn't use that cabinet. Obviously the maid service doesn't do a thorough job when cleaning. I had to then make sure everything else was good and clean. When I go on vacation I want everything to be taken care of. I feel daily maid service should be automatic whether as a regular room or a timeshare owner. The idea of spending the money and the monthly fees, maid service on day 4 only is absurd. The morning they were to come in the maid was at the door very early. We were finishing breakfast and asked for her to return in 1/2 hour. When leaving the room we called to let them know the room was vacant. 2 hours later we called again because they had not returned. We waited to have a late lunch and upon going back to the room again, it was still not done.Just as we were starting our lunch, the maid returned and had to clean around us. She missed quite a lot and did not replace a lot of the necessary cleaning cloths, etc. The pool towels are in the rooms upon arrival. When you take them to the pool, you exchange them for clean ones when leaving. Every night it was the same....no replacement towels available, Also you have to make sure you have the correct amount of clean ones in the room at checkout or a $15 charge is added to your bill. So what do you do if there are no towels and you have an early checkout???? Be prepared to rise early to tag your chairs. If not you end up with no chairs or far away from where you want to be. Our last day we decided to send one of our party down to the pool early. If it is before 7 am you have to sit in the chairs and wait until 7 before you can leave or the tags are removed by security and returned to the front desk. The member of our party did just that and returned to the room for breakfast., After breakfast, they returned to the chairs to find another guest removing our tags from the chairs. When confronted, they said those were their chairs since they had them all week. Needless to say, they had to find another set of chairs. The pools are nice. I suggest the pool with the bar be made into adult only pool. It was frustrating trying to get to the bar through all the kids when there are 2 kid pools. In addition, they need to monitor this pool better, There were cups and straws floating in the pool and it was obvious someone had spilled an entire frozen milky type drink in the pool and it was floating in one area. No one even attempted to clean it up by skimming it out. It was disgusting. The lazy river is supposed to be relaxing but I can't say it was. There were a lot of kids fooling around and swimming in it. They had goggles on and were swimming under you. Others were filling cups with water and throwing them at people. Security was seen everywhere but they didn't do anything about it. Swimming should not be allowed here. If you are not relaxing on a tube, you should not be allowed in the lazy river. If you want to reserve a spot at the beach and you would like to be in front, you have to get in line the day before at 2 o'clock and wait in line for when they finally start to reserve those for the next day. There is a limited amount so you may not get one after standing in line. We reserved one in the back early the same day we wanted to use it. It was fine. You just can't see much. The gentleman that took care of booking my island tour was great. He really helped me understand the different types of tours available and what suited me best. I really enjoyed the day and thanked him when I returned to the hotel. The location of the resort is good, The beach is beautiful and you are able to walk to the main street where there is plenty of shopping and dining. Be prepared, shopping hours are odd so plan accordingly. If you are looking for a family resort, this would be fine. However, if you are looking for a relaxing, peaceful vacation I would look elsewhere.

Room Tip: Most rooms are ocean view. Not sure if any are actually oceanfront. If you want a good view, ask for...

Stayed here for 8 days in Aug 2014. There are three buildings that form a sort of horse shoe facing the ocean. We were lucky enough to stay in the Spyglass Tower which directly faces the ocean and has the best views. We had a 2 room sweet which was clean and featured a full kitchen stocked with pots, pans, dishes, cups and utensils. Great for a family to save a few bucks and cook a few meals. The pool was large and well maintained. There are plenty of beach chairs but if you want a poolside seat you have to go down at 6 am and put your tags on your chairs or you wont find any later. We walked down at 730 and almost everything was laready tagged. Also if you want to use the lazy river you may want to bring a cheap inflatable ring. They do sell them in the gift store but you will pay. Also most people leave them behind when they leave so if you see them laying around by the elevators take them. There's a bar that extends into the water where you can sit on a stool half submerged and grab a drink. My main complaint with this place is the staff. They are not the friendliest or most hospitalble lot that Ive experienced. I was going to leave a star off for this but after spending a week there I realized that this seems to be the attitude of most of the natives. You would think they would be a little more accommodating since tourism is their main source of income and basically sustains the whole island. All in all it was a great place to stay.
