“Awesome!”
Reviewed 20 January 2014

This was our first trip to Aruba, and we booked our return before we left! In one word, exceptional! In more than one word...all of our expectations were exceeded; from the amazing staff, to the quality of the food at the new (Elements) restaurant.

We enjoyed an excursion with ABC Tours that made memories that will last a lifetime (Thanks Marta and Eduardo).

We want to mention a few people at the Bucuti that made our trip so enjoyable.
Special thanks to:

Toine for booking our dinners and excursion

Mario for keeping us 'out of trouble'

Deborah and Arnold for always checking to make sure everything was to our liking

Orville, Robert, Manuel, Ricardo, Christian, Marina, Sali, Maroucha, Nakarid, Michel for making every day fun and comical. You are a great bunch.

Bjorn for a smooth check-in and check-out and booking for next year (Go Orange in World Cup!)

See you in Jan 2015

If we could give this 6 stars, we would.

We just got back from celebrating our 5 year wedding anniversary and my birthday at Bucuti. It was THE BEST. We stayed in a Tara Suite and it was well worth it. Coffee on our balcony in the morning and drinks in the evening were so fun, all while looking at the ocean. The service at this resort is outstanding. The concierge team is incredible and booked all of our dinners and other things to do on the island. The breakfasts were surprisingly good as well. They had everything one could want it was great getting a healthy breakfast in each morning. We laid on the beach a lot and never had problems getting chairs. It was also nice putting your flag up for service. We loved the happy hour from 4-6. It was great mingling with out guests and listening to the steel drum band. The beach was a great walking beach to the left on and the water was perfect for bobbing up and down. We also liked that there were no kids at the resort. It was just perfect for what we wanted on our vacation! Here are some other recommendations from our visit:

What we did on island:
Jeep Tour: Half Day A: SO much fun! A bumpy ride but it was a blast visiting Natural pool, gold ruins and bridge.
Jeep rental 3 days: This was our favorite. We explored the island and visited the lighthouse, chapel, snorkeling, baby beach, the market on our own. It was so fun to explore the island! Our drive to the chapel was so much fun. We didn't really know where we were going and being so remote was an adventure!

Restaurants we visited:
Elements (at our resort) Romantic and a great place to start our vacation off.
Aqua: The food was good but similar inside restaurant to something back at home so just ok.
Amuse Bistro: One of our favorites! Excellent meal
Barefoot: Watched the sunset and had a wonderful meal
Carte Blance: THE BEST. Book months ahead if you want to eat here
Screaming Eagle: Underwhelmed and not our favorite
Pizza Bob's: Next door to our resort. A great pizza and easy meal.

Room Tip: Tara Suites. We stayed on second floor. Would have loved to be a bit higher but it was still great...

The staff is very helpful, someone is there for you every need but never in your way or pushy. It's amazing to see all of the guests that are there for the 3rd,4th, even 10th time. We went to Bucuti for our honeymoon and it was perfect for it. We love kids, however we wanted some quiet time for our honeymoon. The beach was always clean and big enough for all the guests. They keep only enough chairs for the guests at the resort. The bar and bartenders were great! You must also try the restaurant Elements on site as well. Rooms were always clean and the view of the garden made for some relaxing nights on the balcony having a drink.

Room Tip: If you cannot get a beach side room do not worry the Garden view rooms are just as good and you are...

My wife and I stayed here Jan 5-11, 2014 in the Tara suites. Overall, our stay was good -- not great and definitely not bad.

THE GOOD: THE STAFF is awesome! We did not have one complaint about the customer service. Everyone was accommodating and very friendly. THE BEACH is gorgeous and quiet (which is what we wanted). If you want to kick back and relax, this is the place to be. If you are looking for a party, stay somewhere else. The beach chairs and umbrellas are high quality and plentiful. No matter what time we cam out in the morning there were plenty of spots on the beach. Obviously, the earlier you get out the closer you can get to the water but that is to be expected. THE FOOD is delicious. Everything tasted fresh and was well prepared.

THE BAD: The asthetics left something to be desired. The property does not make a good impression when you first pull up. The hotels in Aruba are mainly located in two areas -- the low-rise area and the high-rise area. Bucuti is is in the low-rise area. Overall, we found the low-rise area to not be as astheticly pleasing as the high-rise area. It looks older and a bit run down from the outside. However, it does look much better once you enter. For those who have been to Miami's South Beach, the lobby puts you in the mind of a South Beach boutique hotel. The room was adequate. However, we expected more for what we were paying ($655/night). We stayed in Tara 311 (which is on the second floor, go figure). The bathroom is very basic -- single sink, bath tub, toilet. There was water damage from a previous leak on the ceiling above the shower heard. The hanger bar in the closet was rusted. The electrical wiring seemed to be improper. For example, the "all off" switch on the wall was not a true "all off" as it only controlled a few of the lights.

TIP: If you want to do anything other than eat at the hotel and lie on the beach (both of which are great), you will definitely need a car. There are not many things in walking distance to the hotel -- just a small (smokey) casino and a few small shops. The better shopping and dining are downtown and in the high-rise area. The island is easy to drive.

THE VERDICT: All and all, we still had a great time and Bucuti was more than adequate. I think we just expected more based on the #1 TripAdvisor rating and price. While there, we took the time to look at some other properties and, unfortunately, it does not get too much better unless you are willing to spend $1000+/night for the Ritz. Next time we visit Aruba, we will consider Bucuti but we will also consider a high rise as well, possibly the Marriott.

Room Tip: All suites in Tara have awesome beach front views. However, please note that your room number does...

We are chagrined by the fact that we failed to meet your expectations and are presently correcting the issues of the stain on the bathroom ceiling and the closet rod. Both are being corrected as we speak. The lighting system unfortunately will have to wait a few more months as we are reviewing this "state of the art " environmentally friendly system that is supposed to turn off all lights on command or if the room is vacant or unoccupied. The manufacturer of the system has recently introduced an updated version that does not work on radio frequency.

On the aesthetics of the entrance - It is what it is..... we do not pretend to project opulence – we purposely focus on a laid back / barefoot luxury. We tend to invest more on the facilities, as comfort rather then the first impression ultimately serves our customers better.

Please allow us to clarify the rate you have paid. You reserved a junior suite in our Tara Suites Building and this rate includes all taxes and service charges, full American buffet breakfast for two, WIFI etc. Contrary to what is customary in Aruba and many parts of the world, we do not add on facility fees, fitness room charges, Palapa and chaise lounge charges and other surprises so common in our industry. It is one rate and comparatively very, very reasonable when compared to a suite at the resorts you specifically mention in your review. We do not pretend to be a five star property - we are however very fortunate for being highly rated here on TripAdvisor and on all other review sites. You appropriately compared us to the rest of the industry in Aruba.

We hope you forgive us for our shortcomings and hope you return to Aruba and enjoy our "One Happy Island" time and again......

Respectfully yours,

Ewald Biemans.

We just came back from our 4th visit to the Bucuti. Nothing has changed- it is still the most incredible relaxing resort we have ever been to. The staff is amazing, the beach beautiful, quiet, tasteful and just what's needed for a great winter break. The improvements made have upgraded the place to pure luxury. The new Elements restaurant is wonderful, the lounge chairs and the towel covers make lying on the beach even better. If you are looking for peace and quiet and a beautiful room like the Tara has, look no further. We also are grateful to the staff, Debra, Madeline and Julie for accommodating us when the snow storm hit the East, they rearranged everything to make our stay wonderful. There is just no better place for a great winter vacation!!!!

Room Tip: 3rd Floor of Tara Suites have great view and very quiet

We stayed at Bucuti & Tara for our honeymoon last month. We were immediately impressed by the warm welcome of the staff. Easy check in with champagne - definitely needed after the long day of travel. The Tara Suites are amazing as they have a great view of the property and ocean. Loved having the mini kitchen to keep and warm up leftovers. The beach is absolutely peaceful - completely different from the busy and crowded beaches in the high rise area. The free breakfast was a great perk as the food selection was great. You can either eat on the patio area of Elements, inside where the food buffet is, or at the Tara Lounge. We discovered half way thru our trip that the Tara Lounge is a great spot for a quiet breakfast. The concierge staff is great for booking activities. One tip is to make sure you have plenty of cash as some activities are cash only - we did The Caroline chartered fishing trip which was cash only. If you need an ATM, the closest one is located at the casino which is about a 5 minute walk. Highly recommend The Caroline charter if you like to fish as they will pick you up at Bucuti and clean any fish you catch. We brought our fish to Elements and the chef happily prepared it for us - we had so much that it was enough for a dinner and lunch. Elements only charges $12 per person for the meal. Amazing! Speaking of Elements, their food is great. Definitely do the private dinner in the palapa if you have a chance. All in all, a great honeymoon. Can't wait to stay in another Tara Suite in 2014!

We thank you for your wonderful comments on our associates you mentioned by name and will look at some of the un- named not so friendly staff members. We consider that friendliness is the number one attribute in our "hospitality " industry and an associate who is not hospitable could not be suited for this kind of profession.
We hope to have the honor to host you again .....
