“GREAT PLACE TO UNWIND”
Reviewed 18 May 2014

This was our 2nd time around at the Bucuti. Since our prior trip here 4 years ago there have been changes to the resort. All have enhanced our visit. New gym, dining area, and a lot of room remodeling with upgrades. We choose Bucuti because of its small size that is for 18+ only vacationers. No fighting for beach space, towels, dining reservations, and on and on. The personnel bend over backwards for your comfort and benefit. Being there is like having a lamp with a genie in it. Just rub your brow and ask for whatever and it will appear.

Everyday you are greeted by either Deborah and/or the owner Ewald Biemans. The rest of the staff also are just as friendly and congenial. Our five day stay was definitely too short. We used the gym everyday and there was always plenty of equipment and towels. No one left the gym unsatisfied. The food at the Elements was always plentiful and very tasty. Breakfast was included and there was a variety of foods interlaced with local fruits. Happy hour was from 4 to 6 and was expanded to 9-10. Everyone was HAPPY!

Nestled half way between town and the high rises you can easily get around with the bus or taxi at a reasonable expense. Relax without the hustle and bustle and when your ready, you can go out to the high rise or town.

We will return to the Bucuti in the future. If you want to pamper yourself and really need to relax and unwind then the Bucuti is the place to visit.

We've been many times and love it. The no-kid policy is why we go and they adhere to that. The beach is insanely stunning and the sunsets intoxicating. The breakfast is fine and convenient. The service is very good. The employees are highly trained and extremely friendly. We have gotten to know them over the years. Ewald, the owner, is constantly upgrading and making changes. The air conditioning needs to be amped up a bit. I woke up many times because the room was too hot. I heard they are not perfoming wedding ceremonies anymore, which I think is a good idea. Very small affairs are not a problem. When we were there, there was a large wedding and I found it intrusive and distracting....too much bustle going on. It is a mixed crowd, young and old. There are more security cameras than a maximun security prison. Several hundred, I would imagine....kind of creepy when you're at the pool and a camera is pointed right at you. Elements was good one night and not good the other night. We found the lunch menu insanely overpriced ($19 for a wrap...what!!!) and the food was awful, so we had to leave the resort to eat. The drinks are tiny too. The wine looked to be about 4 ounces at best. The shower is kind of strange. Half/door and water always got all over the floor. The tv in the mirror in the bathroom was very irritating; not a good idea. Ewald, you need to get softer pillows, They were like concrete; thankfully, I brought my own. I think it would be a nice touch to have some soaps, shower cap or just kool little things in the bathroom you get at other nice hotels. At night it is so relaxing to sit out on the chairs and take in the peace. There is no music blasting during the day or night, just a steel drum going at happy hour. It is very quiets and subdued. You can always go to the high-rise area for craziness at night, and we love coming back to this oasis. Look so forward to returning.

Dear Windowworker.
First of all thank you so much for your wonderful comments and for your constructive comments and observations.
For the information to other readers of this review and reply allow me to comment:

We pride ourselves of our environmental program but make sure that it does not interfere with the comfort of our guests.
Our air conditioners can be set at a low 70 degrees (21degrees Celsius) as suggested by the manufacturers of our sensorstat systems - A lower temperature setting is possible by request and it is called a VIP setting ( we have no idea why they call it VIP) but this setting will allow the cooling to go as low as 68 degrees.
We get about 5 or 6 such requests per year as it is too cold for most people who for the most part come from very cold climates and pay a small fortune to warm up in Aruba.

We no longer host weddings for that same reason - and am sure you agree.

The security cameras are there for one reason only - prevention! This is probably the one reason that we have had absolutely no petty crime in our area for many years and it allows us not to have a traditional security guard patrol the estate. Someone said that "Prevention is a pound of Cure" - we agree 100% and so do 99.9 percent of all of our past customers.

We certainly apologize for the quality of our food and investigated and find that we do NOT feature a 19 dollar Wrap on our menu. The quality is being investigate and we have not had any other complaints about our food lately but certainly will keep a close watch over this.

As to the Mirror containing a small TV in the bathroom - we simply suggest not to turn it on -same as we suggest that if the dehumidifier sound bothers any guest, to turn it off.

The pillows and as a matter of fact, all of our Bucuti rooms were entirely renovated and all pillows are new .

We hope to see you again and have you approve of the changes and allow us to place the Air Condition for you in VIP mode. And we apologize profusely for not pleasing you one hundred percent but hope to do so next time.

Respectfully yours

Ewald'

The Tara Suite was beyond awesome. The ocean was right out our window, the balcony was bathed in sea winds. The bed was very comfortable too. The space was beautifully appointed and every person who worked there was friendly and helpful. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

My husband and I go to Bucuti every year for the past 8/9 years, this year we brought our family and my daughter was married on the beach at Bucuti. I can't begin to describe how perfect everything was. As usual, the moment we arrived, we were made to feel we were home. We usually stay at Tara, we wanted to be with the rest of the wedding guests, so we stayed at Bucuti. The room was beautiful, gorgeous view of the ocean! My family was so impressed with everything and everyone at Bucuti that I know they will be joining us when we come back next year. As far as the wedding itself, the new Elements Restaurant was unbelievable! From the presentation to the service to the food itself, it was just fantastic. I cannot imagine a more perfect affair. The food--excellent! Thank you Kirk. The waitstaff--excellent! Our bartender, Marana, what can I say, she was the best! To Frank at the front, everyone at the front desk, Karen, Jessica, Nakarid and Angelo and Orvill on the beach taking care of us, we say "thank you". This place is paradise!

Room Tip: we had guests staying in every part of the hotel, and not one complaint!

After my husband and I had stayed at our timeshare, Costa Linda, in Aruba, for two weeks, we decided to stay next door at the Tara Suites for one night! We've had our timeshare for over 20 years! The hotel has been renovated and we've had lunch there for years! The wait staff is excellent: Nakarid, Danny, and Robert, and Kurt is an amazing chef! The suite was on the second floor and was very well appointed! A nice living area, with pocket doors closing off the bedroom which faced the sea! Both Costa Linda and the Tara Suites are located on beautiful Eagle Beach!..The atmosphere was very nice and the service excellent, so much so that we've booked a week there next year for our 40th Wedding Anniversary!

This was our first trip to Aruba and Bucuti was perfect for us! The service was excellent, the beach was beautiful and the food/drinks were to die for! We stayed in a standard room and it was more than fine, we don't spend much time in our room anyways but we still had a view of the beach (top floor, room 247) and a nice balcony to sit on if we wanted to. The free breakfast was delicious and a nice way to start each morning. The ease of finding a chair/umbrella after breakfast was ideal for us...there is no way I wanted to spend one second of my vacation waiting in line to reserve a seat for the next day and luckily that was not required at Bucuti. We went to the supermarket the first day and got some snacks/food/beer had them empty out the mini fridge and brought a cooler down with us each day with drinks and lunch. We took advantage of the happy hours (4-6 and 9-10) each day to enjoy some tropical drinks (MUST TRY the frozen mojito and ask Angelo about the chocolate chip coffee and vodka drink!!!!). Our first night we did the private beach dining at sunset...excellent food and service and couldn't have asked for better scenery! Beat part for us was the no children...I love my son dearly but left him home for a reason and was glad to not spend my relaxing days listening to other kids screaming or kicking sand all over the place. The pool was nice too. I had read it was small but there were never more than 5 people in it and it was plenty big enough. A nice place too cool off if you don't like the ocean (I like to see it but not so much go for a dip in it!)
