My girlfriend and I decided to stay at Buffam's during our vacation to Aruba. What a great decision. Buffam's Tropical Haven was an amazing place that we hope to return to one day.
The owners, Rick and Sherrie, are fantastic hosts, were extremely helpful, and accommodating. On several occasion they went out of their way to make sure that we had everything we wanted. The house is very decorative with bright colors, palm trees, coral and an occasional lizard on the roof. Our room (the double) was extremely spacious with 2 queen sized beds, a kitchenette, couch and dining room table. The bathroom was spacious as well with a walk in shower. The only downside was the lack of warm water - although we showered at the end of the day so the cool water was refreshing. All the suites are separate from the main home so it is more like an apartment rather than a bedroom. The pool is very nice and clean, there are several lounge chairs about as well as a grill that we used several times. Each morning Sherrie prepared a tasty breakfast that we ate on the patio while socializing with Rick and the other guests. My girlfriend is a vegetarian and Sherrie was kind enough to accommodate her. She also recommended several veg friendly spots to each on the island. Although, many nights we ate cooked dinner in our room and ate on the patio.
The location is a little off the beaten path, so a vehicle rental is a necessity. It takes about 2 minutes to drive to the nearest grocery store, Ling & Sons (very nice grocer) and 5 minutes to Eagle Beach. We recommend renting a Jeep so that you can experience the remote locations on the island.
Some of the places we recommend - natural pool (bring snorkeling gear), Baby Beach (perfect beach for swimming, if you go outside the bay there is good snorkeling, pet cemetery (just south of Baby Beach - it's a site to see), Snorkel at Malmok Beach (don't buy the package - just drive there and go yourself and save lots of $).
We had a couple of friends who went during the same time as us to one of the all inclusive resorts and they felt like they wasted a lot of money because there is so much to see and do in Aruba outside of the resorts. This is a great island with friendly people and so much to see and do.
Sherrie and Rick had us feeling like we were staying with old friends rather than a bed and breakfast.
